Jenn hummed to herself as she rearranged her room, it had become a bit of a habit of hers to give it a new design every couple of years in order to keep things fresh and interesting and of course to stave off boredom for a while, the actual process of getting things to both feel ‘new’ and remain comfortable could take upwards of a year in and of itself due to her ability to make the room appear literally any way she wanted. One of perhaps the few perks of being trapped in this damned lamp but ultimately something she would have NO trouble giving up if it meant never needing to serve another greedy Human again.
The past few years had gone downhill for Jenn, Samael had returned to his home leaving her with nobody that she actually liked to be around in the world which meant she felt less inclined to spend more time outside of her lamp, heck she had even straight up properly granted a few wishes in order to just get it over with, sure she had bent a few here and there but usually it was just something that would force the wisher to use another of their wishes to fix. Of course when she got a of the more excessively greedy or nasty masters she wouldn’t even think twice about putting more work into corrupting there wish but as it stood she was mostly at the point of apathy at this point.
She was just unwilling to devote any more frustration and anger to humanity than entirely necessary at this point, as far as she was concerned she couldn’t wait until they found a way to wipe each other out and with any luck something else would rise up and take their place, something better. And it was on that thought that Jenn felt the tug on her magic as someone neared her lamp. The genie let out a long sigh of frustration and put a halt on her work leaving it unfinished for the time being. The tug was strong enough that she could tell it wasn’t just someone NEAR the lamp but likewise someone approaching it.
She idly wondered how long this time would take, it really depended on how stupid the human in question was sometimes they didn’t even realize she had done something to their wish and just went on to make the remaining ones, slightly smarter humans would pick up on what she did and try and find some way to fix it if the wish was important enough. Others, the perhaps most annoying sort took excessively long periods of time to come up with the ‘perfect wish’ if they knew how she worked. They were generally speaking the most fun to mess with, to show them no matter how clever they THOUGHT they were that she was better. Jenn felt her magic reaching out as the pull reached its strongest point, the human had the lamp now and all that was left was the binding.
A few moments later and Jenn felt her magic ‘click’ into the binding. “Here we go...” Jenn muttered to herself as she let her magic flare outwards and her body dispersed into a thick cloud of blue smoke as high up in the room the gateway between her lamp’s dimension and the realm of the living became connected and the ‘door’ was thrown open. Rather than be dragged out by the lamps magic Jenn rushed out willingly.
Meanwhile on the outside of the lamp it was early morning in the Diablo Desert the sun was high in the sky beating down on all who found themselves traveling this morning. Seikatsu was one such individual, he was making his usual trip from his home village to its neighboring village the trip was long and tough but ultimately he found it enjoyable in spite of the heat and humidity of the desert, it gave him plenty of time to plan out his day and kept him fit. Today however he had made a bit of a detour, a group of bandits had set up camp near his usual route and Seikatsu was not particularly willing to confront them, especially alone.
His new route had proven to take even longer than he had anticipated and thus he chose to take a brief break beneath a rocky outcropping that he had only ever seen in the distance from his normal route. The outcropping had been fairly shady and provided him with an enjoyable reprieve from the desert heat. While relaxing however Seikatsu had noted a strange glint of metal near one of the rocks and out of curiosity had dug up the object, he was surprised to find that it was a rather old looking oil lamp, and upon reading the inscription he grew curious of the item, it spoke of shining the lamp in order to receive his heart’s desire. A curious inscription for a lamp Seikatsu decided to play along and had done so. Within a few moments of doing so the lamp began spewing a strange blue smoke which had been just enough to jog his memory, he had read and been told stories of such things as this.
A Genie, the Diablo Desert was WELL known for being the ‘home’ of a particularly nasty sort of genie, and as the smoke coalesced before him it formed into the image that had been described in the stories though Seikatsu had to admit they had not done a proper job of describing the genie’s beauty rather they focused on describing her as a sort of malevolent villain. Seikatsu knew the stories and even from her look he could perhaps understand why she managed to strike fear into the hearts of men. She looked upon him with a look so cold it sent a shiver down his spine. But there seemed to be something… more to this woman.
“Hello my master, you have found my lamp and now I grant you any three wishes you seek.” Jenn spoke the line with a tone of complete indifference, sometimes she liked to put on a bit of a show of it, make a REAL effort to put a bit of fear into her newest summoner but recently it had all gotten a bit tedious, and especially now that she had been summoned while working on remodeling her room she was neither prepared for such an ‘entrance’ nor did she much care. After delivering her line Jenn took a brief moment to look over the man before her, he was of about average build and a bit taller than normal though not by much he had messy brown hair that and rather piercing gold eyes, he was dressed in a manner suited for extended travel which brought up the possibility that he was someone who had been actively been seeking out her lamp but bore little obvious equipment to accomplish the task the bag that lay a few feet away from him was not packed enough that it could be for truly extensive travel, perhaps containing at most a day’s worth of traveling equipment. Her last few summoners had been those who knew extensively of her and had sought her out specifically, it was a bit refreshing to get a ‘happen upon’ summoner, they were usually a bit easier with the wishes ‘money’ would be the most likely of his first wishes though perhaps if he was smart he’d have her bring them to somewhere that could properly contain the wealth he would seek. It was ALWAYS hilarious to drop a fortune of gold and jewels in the middle of nowhere FAR from civilization.
“Well... this is a rather surprising turn of events.” Seikatsu said knowing that to be perhaps the understatement of the century. “You are the genie Mahajenn correct? I have heard stories of you. I didn’t quite realize that that was you’re lamp.” Seikatsu said with a chuckle, when he had picked up the lamp he had thought perhaps he had found a bit of extra income, it was a bit like a piece of art itself and certainly have sold rather well once properly cleaned. Of course that was rather out of the question now.
Jenn rolled her eyes as the man spoke, while he hadn’t been seeking her lamp it did appear he knew at least a bit about her, she wondered perhaps how much he knew but for now that was not important, she wanted this done with as quickly as possible, perhaps if she dealt with his first wish in a suitable fearful manner he’d turn tail and run and she could spend a bit of time out and about and get a bit of inspiration on how to rework her room. While ultimately she detested humanity she had to admit that some of them did have a good sense of style. “Yes yes that’s very nice now perhaps we could get on with the wishing bit?” Jenn said waving a hand in a ‘get on with it’ motion in hopes that the man would think he NEEDED to do so.
Seikatsu raised an eyebrow at Mehajenns antics, she wasn’t quite as the stories described usually they depicted her as just a few steps short of a demon in terms of her attitude but this woman before him seemed far more detached from the situation than that and just wanted to rush things along, Seikatsu however knew it wasn’t necessary for him to rush and he was curious exactly what he had gotten himself into. Most of the stories had the person making the wish just sort of go in blind; even those who actually KNEW of Mahajenn didn’t really know how she did what she did. It was clearly some sort of magic and Seikatsu was a curious sort of man and he quite enjoyed learning. “I’m sorry Mahajenn but I’m curious, the stories I’ve heard of you depict you in a… less than pleasant light. If I am to assume these stories to be even partially true… what makes you act in such a manner?” I’m also rather curious how you do what you do. “Seikatsu asked genuinely curious about what he had asked.
To say Jenn was taken aback by Seikatsu’s response was perhaps as big an understatement as Seikatsu calling his finding her lamp ‘unexpected’ for a few moments she stood there just sort of staring in confusion. Her magic compelled her to at least answer somewhat how her power functioned though really it was just the ‘rules’ of it that were necessary to be explained if sought out.. “Well as for how my powers work it’s a sort of natural magic possessed by my people, Genies that is. Even I don’t really know much about ‘why’ we have the power we just sort of do ultimately all I really know is what I’ve discovered on my own and what I have a sort of instinctual understand about my powers, there is an upper limit on what I can create generally based on how powerful the material is and how much of it is sought out I’ve never actually reached the true upper limit on how much I can create, though I know something akin to the size of a mountain would be beyond my power as someone once wished for a literal mountain of gold though I could feel that that was FAR beyond my upper limit so it didn’t quite give me a proper idea. I likewise cannot change someone’s emotions, such as making them fall in love and I cannot raise the dead. Nor can I simply use it to kill or harm someone.” Jenn explained the last part was technically speaking a lie, she COULD do so but it was a sort of wish that she was not actually required to fulfill and while she was unaware of the true cost she was aware there was more to it than just granting the wish as normal.
Seikatsu listened to Jenn explain and found himself rather interested in it all, sure there didn’t appear to be much even Mahajenn could explain but this was still rather interesting, part way through her explanation he had even started writing down what she explained not wanting to forget something so interesting. Once she finished her explanation and Seikatsu finished writing it down he waited a moment for her to continue but found that Jenn was now waiting for him to speak. “That’s, that’s all really interesting Mahajenn, but what about what else I asked about?” Seikatsu asked, truthfully THAT had been what he had been more interested in, the information on how her powers worked was nice but he really wanted to just know more about why she was the way she was.
Jenn raised an eyebrow as Sekatsu asked his question, she had hoped that perhaps he wouldn’t have realized she hadn’t answered his first question likewise she was a bit confused why he even seemed to care that wasn’t exactly what she was used to with her summoners. “I… the truth of it is I hate humanity” Jenn said finding it a tad surprising how difficult it felt to admit that to the man before her. “Humanity from my experience is greedy and vile, when given a modicum of power they seek to use it for greedy purposes, over the many centuries that I have lived and granted wishes everyone who had come to me had in the end used my power in such horrible ways. I cannot even count anymore how many times I’ve needed to tell someone I could not FORCE someone to love them, could not kill the people in ‘there way’ it’s disgusting.” Jenn would continue on explaining more of the worst she had seen of humanity and after a while explained some of what she had done to those she considered particularly vile, things that likely didn’t end up in stories.
Seikatsu could only solemnly nod after Jenn finished her explanation, he really could see why she had become the way she was, she had seen perhaps the true worst that his people had to offer and it was saddening to know that it really was humanity’s fault that Jenn was the way she was, that THEY were the ‘villains’ of the stories rather than Jenn herself, though he found it somewhat comforting to know that the genie wasn’t a truly malicious being, she was just someone who had been exposed to too much of the awful aspects of the world. “Mahajenn I know it perhaps means little coming from me but I am truly sorry for what you have had to endure. It truly is saddening to know that we have done so much wrong when presented with the potential to do so much good.” Seikatsu said shaking his head. “And while I don’t perhaps agree with some of your methods I find myself not quite capable of blameing you for what you’ve done. I hope perhaps that I can show you that not all of humanity is lost.” Seikatsu said giving Jenn a smile.
Jenn wasn’t entirely sure how to feel about the man’s response, she’d sort of just expected him to not believe her and to take the side of humanity, instead he had more or less taken no side, he had even apologized for what other people had done and while it didn’t actually fix anything it was nice to know that at least someone knew it was wrong, she was confused however when he said that he wished to show that not all of humanity was lost. “And how exactly do you plan to accomplish that?” Jenn inquired.
“With my wish, I hope It is a simple one to accomplish. I wish to protect those I love.” He said, his words chosen carefully not because he felt worried of what Jenn might do to his wish, but rather something inside of him telling him that this moment was important, he really only planned to use the one wish now anyway, after all Jenn had said he didn’t think it right to take a chance on offending her with anything else. Jenn once again found herself unsure of what to make of what he was saying, the wish was one she had never granted before to be certain, and while she could think of many ways to tweak it to her liking Jenn didn’t quite feel the need to, he wasn’t a bad man, he had been kind and ultimately chose his wish in order to prove such. Perhaps for once she could just let the wish do what he wanted it to do.
Returning the smile Jenn nodded “Alright then.” She had a few ideas on where this would end up, she could feel that the man was not very powerful and perhaps it would give him the necessary power to literally protect his family, the desert was a breeding ground for all sorts of bandit groups and nasty creatures after all. With a snap of her fingers Jenn put her magic to work granting the wish. Mystical energy enveloped both her and Seikatsu causing both to react with varying levels of confusion and shock. Seikatsu because he hadn’t quite been expecting something like this as usually the stories just depicted the wishes as ‘happening’ without any sort of visual magic outside of the snap of the fingers or whatever other method Jenn used. Jenn because well this had never happened before this was entirely new ground for her and she wondered if perhaps her magic was freaking out because she wasn’t trying to twist the intent, could that even HAPPEN?!
After the magical energy finished its work Jenn and Seikatsu were able to take a moment to calm themselves and take stock of the situation, the first thing that both of them noticed was that it wasn’t particularly hot anymore, in fact it was quite nice, quite unlike the normal desert climate. Then they realized the reason for this they were not actually IN the desert anymore. They stood upon an impeccably well-kept marble floor surrounded by a small but nicely kept garden, behind them was a rather large and likewise amazingly well designed building both looked at each other trying to figure out what had happened while gaping at their new surroundings. Jenn was the first to speak up as she noted an off fluctuation in the man’s energy signature and began remembering something that put a rather interesting spin on the situation. “I... I’m not entirely sure HOW but I… I think were in the Guardians temple. But that doesn’t really make any sense because Earth doesn’t HAVE a Guardian. The position has been vacant for a long time from what I’ve been able to tell.” Jenn said as she began walking around to get a better look at things, upon finding that they were also in the SKY she felt it was all but confirmed that this was where they were. She’d seen the temple before and even came around to see if there was a guardian, which had been part of what had confirmed for her that humanity was vile, they didn’t even have a Guardian to look over them which likely meant none of them could even come close to deserving the title.
“Guardians temple? I’m not entirely sure what that is Mahajenn” Seikatsu said, something about this place made him feel… good? It invigorated him and he felt strangely at peace walking around here, as if it was where he belonged. “The Guardian is the being that looks over and cares for the Earth, it’s prot-“ Jenn found the last word caught in her throat as she came to a sudden realization. He had asked to protect the people he loved. “Y..you’re the Guardian.. I made you the GUARDIAN!?! THAT SHOULDN’T EVEN WORK” Jenn exclaimed going wide eyed as she stared at Seikatsu. He had been very nice during their whole encounter, certainly the most pleasant person she had ever met but qualified to be guardian? He would HAVE to have already been qualified if she could place him into the position she could change who he was to MAKE him a better person and certainly she couldn't change the nature of the position itself. Seikatsu paled slightly as Jenn began to freak out over some revelation she had just had. She had called him the guardian, and just before hand had been explaining that the Guardian was the person who loved over the entirety of the earth. It had not necessarily been his intention to become such but perhaps it made sense, he lived his life trying to do as much good as he could and had always sort of wished he could do more there were so many people even between his home village and its neighboring village to help.
After a few moments Seikatsu managed to get Jenn to calm herself enough to properly explain what had most likely occurred, she had explained that somehow he had already been a man of enough ‘purity of heart’ to be capable of taking up the position of Earths guardian. “Well it appears this day is just filled with surprises is it not?” Seikatsu said with a laugh. “I cannot say that this was my intention but I believe the result is for the best regardless. You are right Mahajenn there is much wrong with the people of the world, perhaps they need a Guardian, someone to help keep things in balance.” Seikatsu said with a nod. “I believe if you want Mahajenn you could return to what you normally do, I had no intention of making a wish beyond this and even this one had gone beyond what I imagined. You should spend some time enjoying yourself.” Seikatsu said.
Jenn was beyond being surprised with Seikatsu at this point but despite being more than capable of heading off she found herself strangely drawn to sticking around. “I think… I think I’ll stick around for a bit. I’m kinda curious if a Kai will come down and sort this all out.” Jenn said with a shrug. Seikatsu smiled at that finding himself enjoying the idea of having Mahajenn around, now that he was getting to see what was likely a bit more of the ‘real’ version of her he was rather enjoying her presence and as well he realized that perhaps she could be able to help him acclimate to his new position. “That would be wonderful Mahejenn and now that I think of it, it may be rather overwhelming to try and do this job without any help. I also realize something; I never quite introduced myself to you which is rather rude. I am Seikatsu... Guardian of Earth I suppose.”
