As she spoke Celeh could tell that Ninjin was analyzing and thinking on her words. Not just the mention of her spar with Akassa, but of her strategic planning capabilities and her thoughts on how to handle guarding the Prince while he charged up his attack. He didn't respond, which had her a bit concerned, but before she could react he took a fighting stance and threw a mean hook into her jaw. It lifted her off her feet and sent her sailing across the room, smacking her back against the wall. She grunted and landed on one knee in a crouch, staggered from the blow. She tried to talk, but grunted and winced as she realized her jaw had been dislocated from that punch. His words echoed through her mind and, although she was scowling at him for the sucker punch, she understood his reasoning. She shook her head as if to shake off the daze of the hit and grabbed her jaw with both hands and shoved it up and into place. "HHNnnngggRrraaah...Damn that really hurt..."
The initial shock hadn't hit her yet. Her mind was driven and her body was full of adrenaline. As she went to stand up the real impact of that punch hit her and she staggered again, blacking out for a split second. She kept herself from falling by dropping to a knee again. That hit really shook her up. She had a pounding headache now. Needless to say Celeh had some frustrations to vent now, if the rest of her train of thought wasn't reason enough before. She rushed at him low with a shin kick and then kicked off with her other leg and spun, aiming a high spin kick for his head. A third rotation would swing her other leg over her head and drop it down on the Prince if he ducked under that high spin kick. Much like the water that her aura flow emulated, her hand to hand fighting style was like a maelstrom, spins and torrent-like movements in her every attack. Not that she didn't appreciate a straight jab or kick, but she was quick and nimble enough to chain together rotations for continued momentum. But would it work on Ninjin?

The blow seemed to have it's intended effect. Though the prince had no love of hurting others, particularly those he considered friend, this was for her own good, for their own good. If slugging her now meant she would live longer and be stronger later so be it. It was for their own benefit, and yet seeing the solider look up at him with a scowl and a dislocated jaw, the prince still felt a pang of guilt. She snapped her own jaw back into place and the prince had to look away. She mumbled something that he didn't quite catch but got the gist of. He had injured her. He looked back, but his face gave away nothing. He was in training mode now, and this was for her own good. All of what came next would be as well. She quickly made her way to her feet, too quickly, apparently, for her body. The prince resisted the urge to rush over and help her. The solider only dropped to a knee, a feat that surprised the prince. Celeh was strong, no one could doubt that any longer in the prince's mind.
The prince was not expecting it when she suddenly rushed at him, keeping towards the ground. A boot smashed into his shin and another careened into the side of his head. Then her other foot came down on the top of his head. The prince's shin would probably have a large bruise on it the next day, but he took the blow to the head like a champ, his head only tilting the slightest. Her form could be described as beautiful, flowing quickly like water and giving the female fighter a grace that he had not truly seen before. It was almost enough to make him forget about the mission at hand and the boot resting on his head. Almost.
With snake-like speed the prince's hand would reach up and grab the ankle of the Captain, spinning he would use her ankle to smash her face down into the floor. It would hurt no doubt, but it would not kill his sparring partner. Still the prince would hate to hear the sound that it made, the breaking of the training room floor with the body of the solider. He just had to remind himself, this was for their safety later, when it really mattered, when they could really die. Should she somehow avoid his cobra like snatch the prince would lash out with a kick to the midsection of the solider.

Again, he stood there and took her full assault as though she wasn't even there. The soldier didn't take it as a hit to her pride. The Prince was trying to help her train by being a living punching bag. She hated the idea of thinking him hat way, but he was allowing it to happen and she wasn't in a position to turn down the free training. Celeh was about to make a continued assault when suddenly he snatched her with ease and slung her around over his head, aiming to smash her face down against the floor of the ship.
It happened in a flash to Celeh. If he wanted to hit her hard and make her feel it, this was definitely the blow that would do the job. She swung over his head so quickly that she didn't have time to properly react and brace herself smashing into the floor. She tried to brace with her left arm, but the elbow cracked and her upper arm snapped in two, plunging her face against the tiled floor of the training room. It bounced sickeningly and blood gushed from her nose. She lay there, still for a moment as the bounce happened and then her head fell to the floor again. He may think he overdid it...
But only a few seconds after she stopped moving, her right arm twitched and she began pulling her legs shakily beneath her. Celeh pushed off the floor with her good arm, the broken one dangling at her left side. The saiyan soldier was staggering to her feet and looking, through blood soaked eyes, at the Prince. Her forehead was split open, maybe even fracture, and blood poured down her face. She gritted her teeth and looked at him. Her vision blurred and she staggered toward him. It was clear from her uneasy movements that she wasn't all there mentally. How was she standing? Her stance was eschew and her eyes seemed to be glossy and had lost some of their color. As she took that last step and swung her good arm in a poor attempt at a hook, she fell onto Ninjin's chest, fist likely landing on his shoulder. Celeh had sustained a hit too heavy for her own good and fallen unconscious. Not to mention she'd shattered her elbow and broken her humerus while trying to keep from taking the full impact of that slam.

Perhaps he overdid it. As he slammed her into the ground he could hear the sickening crack of her upper arm and her face as it smacked into the ground. But, he kept reminding himself, this was for her own good. The blow was brutal, and as she lay there the prince was curious as to whether or not she could stand. And then, just like that, she stood once more. It was not a quick maneuver, her broken arm dangling at her side, blood pouring from a cut over her forehead. Did even she realize how brutal she looked? It was a testament to her strength and her willpower that she was even standing at all. It was the reason Ninjin was doing this after all.
She staggered forwards. They were uneasy steps, like those a drunken person might make. It was as if she was testing her footing and finding it hard to believe her legs were underneath her. How was she standing? She took a step and spun, her arm bounding carelessly and ineffectively against the red Saiyan's armor. She quickly fell unconscious leaning against him. Perhaps that was for the best, she would need the rest. She had impressed the hell out of him though, and she was stronger than even she realized. Carefully, the prince brought her and laid her to rest inside one of the two healing pods aboard the ship. He stared a her for a moment as she floated in the healing chamber in front of him. She was all he had going into this. His hand reached up and touched the side of the tank, pressing against the glass. If nothing else he would make sure she got back to New Vegeta safe. This wasn't her place to die, she was vastly overpowered by the prince, and perhaps by the members of the church on the world they found. Though, he was thankful nonetheless for the company.
With a sigh the prince removed the upper part of his armor with a thought, sending it to the dimension where it was stored whilst not upon him. Damn but it was heavy, even despite all of the power and strength that he had. With a deft quickness of one practiced, Ninjin bandaged his body. It wasn't too bad right now, but the war could go downhill, and he would need to be ready. His eyes would glance from time to time on the solider in the tank, to make sure she was healing, he told himself. Still, there was something... beautiful, and almost mesmerizing, about the woman floating in the tank of healing gel, it softly pulsing with blue energy. Ninjin didn't understand how the contents of the tank healed those put in it, but was thankful for the technology all the same.
The same nagging problem that Ninjin had before though, he had now. How was he going to destroy an entire planet. His conversation with Celeh had helped, but he found himself no closer than he was before, and if anything even more conflicted. Though he had already made up his mind, his heart apparently didn't get the memo. His mind kept thinking of the innocent lives he might be taking. The Saiyan Captain had already made her thoughts on the subject known the the General, and despite agreeing with her, he knew what she didn't. A history of fighting the church his entire life had made the prince something of an expert on them. He was after all enemy number one.
Once she was healed, however long that would take, the prince would once again invite her to either spar or talk, truth being told he could use a little of either.

Celeh was in that chamber for what felt like ages, likely to both of the saiyans on board the ship, and her recovery was slow. But as her bones began to mend over time and her muscles were restored, bruised tissue being healed and strained ligaments mended...the fluid in the tank began to drain at last to let her stand on her own two feet. She was still half conscious, head pounding as she had a headache from that monstrous blow she'd taken before. Her shoulder, elbow, and upper arm throbbed with soreness and stiffness from the bone mending process. She flexed and rotated her arm and shoulder respectively, trying to work some of the soreness out.
The soldier stepped down out of the tube as the glass slid down out of her way. She shook herself off and began drying with a towel. Thankfully the healing gel wasn't too clinging to hair or skin. She took a deep breath and glanced up, seeing Ninjin sitting in the medical bay as well. "I appreciate you keeping vigil over my recovering, Ninjin, but shouldn't you have been working on a new technique or training more while I recuperated?" She slowly strode over and sat down, towel around her shoulders, in the chair across from Ninjin. The soldier's mind had been cleared up quite thoroughly. That hit knocked out any complex thoughts she had for the time being, and replaced it with a minor, throbbing headache and the relief of a good fight.
"The look on your face tells me that you're still very troubled, Ninjin. You're good at hiding it, but someone like me with a fighting style based on trickery has to be able to read opponents. Reading faces is just a part of that. But...I'm not saying you don't have reason to be concerned. You're facing a whole planet with back up that's nowhere near your level. And if the powers I sensed in the castle when the church attacked were any indication, nowhere near the level of the ones we'll be facing once we get to their planet, too. I hate to admit it, but It's uncertain if I'll be of any use in battle aside from a distraction or a shield." She scratched her head and racked her brain for things to say that didn't sound like she was bashing herself, but it was the first thing that came to her mind...and it was painfully true after that little spar they just had.

With a hiss the tank saw more activity in mere seconds than it had for what felt like a lifetime. The blue gel began to slid down the sides of the chamber slowly, indicating that the healing process was complete. Ninjin glanced up from where he was sitting, deep in thought about what was about to occur. How could anything else be on his mind? Well that, and periodically looking up to make sure Celeh was alright. As he sat, it was as if he was waiting for an epiphany that wasn't going to come. Could one really have an epiphany on how to destroy a planet. He smiled as soon as he saw the Saiyan captain once more. Her words broke the silence that Ninjin had sat in for so long. It was a welcome change from the hum of the machines and the pounding of his thoughts. She joined him where he was sitting, and truthfully she was right, he should have been doing more.
"I couldn't just leave you." He said with what felt like a cheery smile. It was hard to make the feelings stick though. Looking at the woman his thoughts could almost be pulled from what lie ahead. Her next words shown that she saw right through him. Slightly embarrassed his cheeks reddened slightly. It was not often that someone had the ability to read him like a book. Then she turn the view towards herself and he was quick to cut her off.
"You don't give yourself enough credit. You're stronger than you know. I've fought people stronger than you that don't hit half as hard." It was true, the Saiyan warrior was a special one. Thousands upon thousands of Saiyan soldiers had crossed by Ninjin's purview, and Celeh was easily the strongest they had. She was in a league of her own when it came to Saiyans, and the prince couldn't honestly name a pure blood saiyan who wasn't royal family that was as strong as she was. His father and mother must have seen something special in the solider when they selected her to be Akassa's bodyguard. Ninjin now too was seeing it, but perhaps in a different way.
"You're more than just a shield Celeh, and a distraction can be the difference between an heroic victoty and a crushing defeat. And truthfully..." He let his guard drop, and once again it would feel like night and day, the prince, and the person he truly was, were not always the same. "Truthfully, I'm not sure there's anyone else i'd rather have here." He realized how this may sound, and though not entirely what he meant he found he couldn't deny that part of him either, there were definitely feelings forming there. Was it all because of their suicide mission? It had never been hidden from him that Celeh was attractive... perhaps he had never noticed it before... Ninjin realized he had stopped talking and was simply staring at the solider. The prince tried to clear his head and find the words he meant to use. Again his cheeks reddened slightly. This was not a situation the prince was used to either. "What I mean to say is that I have a handful of friends, and that's largely my fault for the way I acted for a lot of my life. I have so few people I can really trust, they all just seem to be out for me or out to get something from me. I can count the number of "friends" I have one both hands with a few fingers to spare. But what i'm trying to say Celeh is... Thanks."
It was heartfelt and sincere. Though if she could read the prince as well as she claimed, then perhaps she knew what was going on in his mind the entire time. Or perhaps not.
"Are you feeling up to more training, or would you like to help me think of a technique that I could use to destroy a planet? Or if you'd prefer, we could just sit here and talk, and you could tell me more about you." If they were going to die together, and it was highly likely that it was, there was nothing the two had to lose by opening up to each other. And if Ninjin was going to die, he would make the most out of it.

The Prince's words of concern didn't fall on deaf ears. For Celeh to hear them coming from him...it made her feelings of concern for him and their people back on New Vegeta feel more validated. She took a deep breath and was about to respond, when his words of her not giving herself enough credit rang out and she paused. The soldier really thought about what he said and then looked at him intently. Her pause took too long, though, and Ninjin's words continued to baffle her as he spoke more. No one better to have around than her? And was he blushing? Her own cheeks began to take on a crimson hue as she pondered if those words and red cheeks really meant what she thought, or if he was just confused about things. The soldier scratched the back of her neck for a moment.
"You don't cease to flatter me, Ninjin. But...there is more to strength than just power alone. That much I can say for sure. If you feel my punches, then it must be the strength of heart behind them and not the physical might. I know, just from your presence, that my power couldn't scratch yours if it were down to pure fighting ability. But, I don't think battle is so one dimensional. If raw power was the only deciding factor, battle wouldn't be as interesting as it is, and battles would be far less unique."
She wasn't sure why she said what she did there, or even if any of it mattered. Celeh glanced at Ninjin again and shook her head, "No...talking isn't bad, but I think we should do something to work the soreness out of my body. Some more training sounds acceptable to me. Another spar? Or did you have something specific in mind? I've only really got my training weights and whatever the ship has available for assisting in training, so there may not be much I can do aside from a spar. That being said, I don't know if I could help you come up with a planet destroying technique. My advice would be to create a powerful piercing blast with a delayed explosion. Capable of drilling deep into the planet's core and then detonating. I don't know how plausible a technique like that is, but I imagine it would take a lot less power to destroy a planet from the inside than it would take to just outright disintegrate it from the outside..."

She too had begin to blush at his words. So she had noticed them. The prince's hue only deepened. Her words rang true though, he had seen many a battle and they very rarely ever came down to pure might. Though... What could they really count on in the coming battle? The only definite they had was each other. Everything else would be a mystery until they reached their destination. Then? War. Bloody war. She didn't decline the offer to talk, but offered wise advice. It was better for them to be doing something rather than to just sit around on their hands talking. Another spar seemed their most likely option, as there wasn't much else the ship offered in the way of creature comforts, or even to help them. It seemed the ship was oddly suited for it's mission, but then again wasn't that the point? They were not on a mission to get stronger, they were on a mission to destroy a people.
The advice about the technique gave the prince some interesting ideas. The idea was feasible and despite not knowing much about the insides of planets, Ninjin had to admit the idea at least sounded like a very good one. It displayed more of Celeh's intellect. The prince's mind quickly set to the task, but his body stood from the table and made his way to the sparring chamber once more. The damage that had been done earlier was still there, the floor damaged from where Celeh's body had slammed hard against it.
"Sorry about that." He said one more time, though this time with a smile. Once more he fell into his fighting stance, but something about it was different this time. Whilst Celeh had been recuperating in her chamber, the prince had been doing something he never thought he would have to. Supress his power. It had taken hours for him to even drop it a little, having had no practice in it. With intense focus he tried to lower it, and eventually he felt himself... growing weaker wasn't the right word. Repressed. It took great effort, and a lot of willpower. Then, when he had stopped, his power level was roughly half what it had been. With his weights on, they were much closer. He smiled at her.
"This will make things a tad more interesting." When she was ready he charged her, a haymaker aimed for the exact spot on her jaw that he had connected with before. But this fight wouldn't be like before. Ninjin was excited to see what Celeh could do to someone at her own level.

The soldier saw the crater she'd made in the floor when he slammed her. The fact that he apologized made her wonder what his mind was wandering around in right now. Thoughts of their spar? Thoughts of their mission? Or wrestling with the potential guilt of genocide...? Celeh took a deep breath and was about to speak, but paused as it dawned on her that his power had somehow decreased dramatically from before. As he reached her level, the soldier blinked and asked, "What are you doing? Reducing your power to my level? It will make for a much more interesting spar, but when did you learn to do something like that? It hardly seems proper for the general to do something like hide his power. Isn't that a cowardly technique?"
Of course, she didn't mean to offend him by saying that, but it wasn't in the Saiyan nature to run and hide. Their mission was proof of that. Even when their home was nearly decimated, the saiyans went on the offensive to surprise their foes and make them regret their decision. Regardless, she took her familiar fighting stance. She widened her stance a bit as she saw Ninjin make a rush for an opening attack, actually lowering herself by bending her knees more than usual. She brought her arm up and slammed her forearm upward to block and, hopefully, deflect his haymaker. She turned with the blow, reaching her other arm up to grab the arm he'd thrown a punch with. Her blocking arm rotated and she quickly grasped at the wrist of his punching arm. She extended her knees and thrust her hip back against his middle, trying to get him off balance so she could follow through with her hip toss slam. If it all worked according to plan, she'd jump at the last second to ensure Ninjin went straight down at the floor rather than flying to one side.
Should her hip toss slam have worked, she would quickly follow up with a flurry of energy blasts directly down at him as her jump continued upward. How would Ninjin respond to this?

The female Saiyan seemed utterly shocked by this new development. The prince had put great effort into lowering his power-level to near her own. Her words did sting a bit, cowardice? This wasn’t that. Or at least he didn’t think it was. He was hoping to test her actual limits, and couldn’t do that if he was simply beating away at her, with her unable to fight back. That was no test of a warrior, that was just brutal, and though a good way to gain toughness for a Saiyan… well Ninjin had just done that hadn’t he? Now it was time to test the warrior Celeh really was. He knew this would be good.
“I set about trying to learn the technique sometime whilst you were in the healing chamber. It took hours of meditation, but I was successful. I am able to reduce my power level by half it would seem. As for cowardice, I’m not sure, I’m not attempting to be deceitful. This is so I can test your actual ability.” He hope his explanation was satisfactory.
The punch was deflected expertly by the Saiyan woman, and her other arm came round to grab him and attempt a hip-toss. Ninjin flipped around and slammed into the ground, only to come under a barrage of ki. They slammed into him, and despite the pain, he smiled. She was good. Any on the planet that were close to her power-level that she may fight would find her hard to beat. Ninjin rolled quickly out of the blasts, hidden by the dust kicked up by the very things seeking to hurt him.
Ninjin kipped-up and spun to look at the solider. Smoke steamed off of his crimson armor and his back ached from bouncing off of the tile. He drew his hands to his side and built energy there. Then he launched it at her. What would she do?

His words did not fall on deaf ears, and she knew that was his purpose all along. But she wanted to remind him that hiding your true power was only useful to a saiyan when bluffing to surprise opponents, rather than outright deception. Celeh was all about misdirection and deception in battle, but there were certain lines even she would not cross. With stronger fighters around, you could hide your power to become the least threatening, and then leave the battlefield without resistance in a lot of situations. Although she had to admit, now that she thought about it there were a lot of practical uses in catching a foe off guard or surprising them with power spikes.
Despite the effectiveness of her counter-assault, Ninjin recovered rather quickly. It was to be expected since she didn't throw any heavy blows during that counter, but she couldn't give him the chance to properly mount an assault. As the energy blasts flew from his hands and her jump nearly reached the ceiling, Celeh flipped over and planted her feet against the ceiling. She kicked off and rocketed straight down, throwing two quick blasts to knock away part of the barrage Ninjin had fired. She rocketed through the other blasts, taking the hits and continuing down straight toward him. At nearly the last second she flipped forward and aimed to crash both her heels directly into his shoulders. If she could force him to the ground, she'd drop down onto him fully with a strong right elbow aimed for his jaw. But if the kick should fail, she'd likely be vulnerable to his counter attack.
"I suppose it is a better test of my ability now that You aren't shrugging off my blows effortlessly and you aren't tossing me about like a ragdoll. It is much more enjoyable to fight an opponent that I can actually damage, too."

The Saiyan's solider's skill in combat was evident, and Ninjin took a second to appreciate that he had never really seen her fight before. She was graceful and powerful all in one, and with ease she flipped and bounced off the ceiling and blasted aside his blast before it could hit her. The prince was impressed. A smile came to his face, despite the situation they were in. Yes it was true that things looked bleak at best and downright suicidal at worst, but for the moment he got to enjoy a spar with a beautiful partner. There were moments he would have traded anything for a moment like this, and though he would enjoy it now, lingering at the back of his mind was the ever present thought of what was approaching. They were not here for fun. This was a mission, and one that would likely get them killed.
Like a stone Celeh plummeted through his attack and came through on the other side. Was she planning on tackling him from there? It was a bold maneuver, and one that Ninjin was likely to attempt himself. The thought made him grin. He rose to meet celeh, but at the last minute she flipped and the heels of her boots caught the prince in the shoulders. He felt the bones of his left collarbone crack, as he had begun to reel back a punch with his right fist, that shoulder had received less damage. His left shoulder however had been moving forwards, and caught the blow full on. The prince grimaced through it. It was a well-placed blow and an unlucky break on his part, but he wasn’t about to give up.
His arms came up, and he could feel the bone in his left snap and give. His left arm fell away but his right wrapped around the woman’s leg as it was still on his shoulders. Then he would attempt to drive her into the ground once more in a power-bomb like move, though with half the power. If it was successful, there would be another crater created, but this one would do less damage to the woman. Ninjin’s legs would then give out and he would slump to the ground himself. This was no time for such an injury. He would need to get into a healing tank right away. If his powerbomb failed, no doubt the lithe woman would use her momemtum to execute a flip and flip the prince as well. Regardless he would mention the break in his shoulder and his desire to get into the healing tank. Normally he would continue fighting, and truthfully he would like nothing more.
Fighting someone was the best way to know a person in Ninjin’s opinion, and Celeh had just told him volumes about herself. For one, she was a better combatant than he. There was just something so graceful and fluid about the way the woman warrior fought. Even though he was still a higher power-level, he was the one walking away with an injury. If it wasn’t for the mission, he would continue fighting her, and they would tell each other volumes with their martial prowess. But the mission depended on him, and if he wasn’t in tip top shape… well the fate of his people hung in the balance. It was not something he could afford to take lightly.
Weakly the prince walked to the door, nursing the shoulder and looking forward to the cooling-and-yet-at-the-same-time-warmth feeling the healing tube had. He stopped at the door though. There was too much there between him and Celeh to just walk away and not say anything else. They were screaming towards some unknown danger together, and all they had was each other and the two pilots.
“You are an incredibly impressive fighter Celeh. Someday, when this is all behind us, I would like to spar with you again. I love watching you as you’re so beautiful. I mean watching you fight because you’re beautiful! I… uh… mean your movements are beautiful! You… uh… You… you fight good.” He said the last words stupidly, blinked in confusion at his own stupidity and tounge-tiedness, and walked away to find the healing chamber, promising that if they didn’t die on this crazy mission he would make up that conversation to Celeh. There was something there, unless he was crazy. Maybe it was the impending doom. That did seem to bring people closer together.
As he stepped into the tank and turned, the door slid close with a hiss. Goo began to slowly fill the chamber, and a mask was lowered onto his mouth to protect him. As it reached his shoulder it began to tingle, like it always did when its healing properties went to work. He had heard everyone reacts to the goo differently, for Ninjin it was always a tingle, and when he fell asleep in it he was always training, sparring with his friends, and no stress in the world. It was at those moments when he was most happy. Would he ever have another moment like that? He doubted it.
The feeling had been there ever since they had left for this mission. No, perhaps it began when he had conversed with Aon as he lay dying on New Vegeta. It was a feeling of impending doom. And it only seemed to grow stronger and stronger as they approached wherever it was they were going. Did Celeh feel it too? Or was he crazy. Things were going to happen there that would change their lives, of that there was to be no doubt. If Ninjin had to commit genocide… if he brought himself to do it… there would be no coming back from that either. But he was so mad. So angry at the church for what they’d done.
As Ninjin faded to sleep in the goo, it was Truffle he dreamed about, Truffle and Celeh, along with Leke and Nasu and his son, whose face was obscured. He dreamt too, or Conri and Frigid, two he could call his friend. He dreamt of Willie Watson, the young boy he had helped on Omega, one of his first selfless acts. Of Lilith and Lilianna, Bubebolos and Endou. All of the friends he had passed through his mind, and though the list was short it made him smile that the list was there at all. These were the people he was doing this for. For those that the church would never leave alone. For those that they had so mercilessly killed. And for himself. Enemy number one.
This would end soon.
It had to.

(PL for me. I thought about trying another post at the end, but I really don't feel I could add anything worthwhile.)
