Two nights after he'd started his project, the radio was finally ready for it's first broadcast and Ethan had prepared quite the speech. He'd also made sure that the transmission wouldn't be traced back to Metropolis island, the past day and a half having been spent cruising out into the open ocean when he wasn't working on the radio or his opening address to the people. Ethan wasn't taking anything to chance, he would keep the transmission long enough to properly deliver his message but not so long as to give the invaders time to triangulate his position. This first transmission though had the benefit of being the first and thus wouldn't be expected, there would be no mechanism in place to track it so the minutes long address would be safe. Following addresses though would have to be kept shorter and of course, after every transmission Ethan would move his boat far away from the site in the event that someone did triangulate his position, they would find nothing but empty ocean.
His security precautions were masterful and the teen only hoped that his speech was just as well prepared as he set down at the transmitter. He worded it as best he could to sound dignified and supportive of the people. The eloquence of his words hopefully would bring hope to Earth's population and stir many of them to form the very underground he was trying to ignite. Now was the faithful moment, the culmination of three day's hard work and preparation. It all came down to the flip of a few switches and reading off a page of text in a smooth, melodic tone. Looking to the radio, Ethan switched on the power to the amplifier and watched as the tubes warmed up, readying themselves to pump out thousands of watts of radio energy. Then he switched on the signal generator and selected his frequency band. This was it, one more button and he was on. There was no turning back now, the radio was on, tubes ready, all that was needed was to press the transmit key. The boy hesitated for a moment though, studying the orange glowing tubes and then the piece of paper in his hand. He wasn't sure he wanted the responsibility of leading the many people who would flock to his cause, but who else was there? His brother had vanished again and he'd not seen anyone else from the battle. There simply didn't seem to be anyone else but him, he had no choice now but to lead. And so, his free hand came down and pressed the key, a red light came on indicating the unit was now transmitting and then he spoke.
"My fellow residents of the great planet Earth, whether you be Human, Saiyan or somewhere in between. We have suffered a horrible crime
against our sovereignty this past month and we here at the Free Radio Earth Enterprise grieve with all of you who have lost loved ones in
this barbaric attack. Our planet has been invaded, make no mistake about this fact. Our former friends an allies, the Lunar dwelling Saiyan
empire, have turned traitor against our world, slaughtering as much of the population of Central City as they could in retribution for our
willingness to defend ourselves.
Their queen speaks of moving forward, of becoming one with a great nation. She even makes mention of King Buraddori and claims he bent
his knee. These are lies. They are the sugar coated words of a conqueror, a dictator who wishes to quell an imprisoned population by selling
them a rosy story of the future and painting themselves in the image of the victim rather then face open rebellion and have to reveal their
true intentions. This story is a lie, what the dictator Akassa Hattori and her blood thirsty minions actually have in mind for the human
populace is slavery, pain and death.
Her claim that the True King of Earth bent is knee is specious at best, his actions were witnessed by one of the few survivors of the
massacre and the King acted as he saw fit to save the People of Earth. To have invited conflict with our 'friend's' entire battle fleet hanging
over our world would have been foolish so he attempted to keep the peace with a paltry gesture of fealty while a proper defense could be
mounted. Unfortunately Our King's actions were not enough to stay the murderous hand of the Hattori regime.
She speaks of the destruction of Central City as if it were not her fault. Again lies. Her very presence triggered the destruction of our city,
whether it was purposely destroyed by her or her minions, or accidentally by the valiant efforts of our defenders is beside the point. The true
mark of a worthy leader would have been to stop the conflict before it began, as Our King attempted to do, or to pull out when civilian
lives were at risk. Akassa Hattori did neither of these things and indeed initiated the wholesale slaughter of thousands of innocent people
that day when she invaded Our planet from the very moon We supplied her race to live on.
What she is selling is an unadulterated pack of lies and it is our sincerest hopes that none of you believe a single word of it.
One thing she said is true however, she cited the ruined crater of Central City as a reminder of what resistance will bring, here she has shown
her true colors, those of a dictator, a tyrant, a monster who thinks nothing of murdering the innocent. We here at the Free Radio Earth
Enterprise do not wish the fair citizens of Earth to break into open rebellion though, this can only bring more death. We urge you instead to
form covert communications channels and means of travel. Our representatives will disseminate to every city in the world and from there
we shall collect the information and materials we will need in the fight ahead. Give no cause for the Saiyan invaders to suspect you or anyone
else.
We understand these are the beginning of dark times, many will die at the hands of these monsters, many more will suffer for their mere entertainment. But fear not people of Earth, the Saiyan aggressors will be stopped, they will be driven back to the dark corners from which they came and though the night ahead looks dark, we will carry on.
Remember, no dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever. There is no greater power in the universe than the need for freedom. Against that power tyrants and dictators cannot stand. Would be conquerors who turned their attention toward Earth learned this lesson before. They shall learn it again. We shall tell them that from this place, we will deliver notice to the parliaments of conquerors that a line has been drawn against the darkness, and we will hold that line, no matter the cost.
This has been a broadcast from Free Radio Earth Enterprise."
It was done, the die had been cast and now it was up to the people to organize. Ethan had done all he could to start the ball rolling and now as the only representative of the fledgling freedom group, he would need to immediately return to Metropolis City to see the results. Switching the radio off and storing the two parts away separately, the boy headed up to the second deck of his houseboat, sat in his captain's chair and throttled the idling engines up to full power. He would put as much distance as possible between himself and the transmission site even though there was virtually no chance of it having been traced, it was after all the first and completely unexpected. Within hours he would be back at the city and docked inconspicuously among hundreds of other boats in the marina.
