At the beginning of time there was only dust and darkness. But then in a sudden burst light sprang forth illuminating the dust in bright waves of colors that one could never fully appreciate as the mind could not comprehend what it was looking at. Only a few milliseconds after the light burst forth from the dark expanse heat began to cause the dust to expand and sent it flying through the dark expanse. As the heat combined with the dust the dark began to be illuminated with small dots of lights. This was the birth of the stars. This was the birth of the universe.
It is said that shortly after this in the clouds of dust a planet was formed and with it powerful beings were born. This was not one of the planets told in the annals of history like those that produced some of the universe’s strongest fighters as it mainly stood by its own. The beings there never had any reason to ever venture forth off of the planet and instead focused on building a society that could survive time eternal. There was no fighting amongst one another as they worked together in order to strengthen every facet of their lives. This planet of beings became known as Nysa and the beings on it as the Fae.
Nysa was a land of paradise for the Fae. To the north there was magnificent and elegant plains of snow that were met by the mountains to their south that stood almost as tall as the clouds. Beyond them was the Plain of Elysian that provided food for most of the planet, as a traveler continued they would dip their bodies in the Shimmering Sea, a body of water that was some of the clearest water in the entire universe. It was said in the mornings just before the sun rose that the sea would sparkle like that of ten thousand gems dancing next to one another. Beyond the sea lay the forests of Alfheim, and beyond that the great rain forests of Themiscyra and then beyond that were the great valleys before the southern mountains that rose higher than their northern counterparts. The jewel of Nysa though was the great city that the Fae constructed named Kalella. The buildings within it were said to be built of gold stone that could survive any storm that may appear, with aqueducts that ran crystal clear water through them and gardens that were dotted around the city. It was this city that was the Fae’s greatest achievement and was the crown jewel in their pride. It was here that the royal family ruled over all that the Fae created.
The mighty king of the realm was a fae named Oberon. Oberon was the strongest of their race and was talked over being the very first fae to ever come into existence. It was his power that kept the heavens at bay while Nysa thrived. His wife was the benevolent Elysian. It was said that a single smile from her beautiful face could calm the most acrimonious hearts. The story goes that she was residing upon a plentiful field when the might king Oberon happened across her. It is said that the two fell madly in love with each other after spending time together. Soon the two became so inseparable that they bodies moved in one. The field that she was found in would later be named the Plain of Elysian after the magnificent fae. While Oberon protected Nysa from the heavens it was said that Elysian protected the planet from the threats that the planet created. Together the two ruled over the planet bringing nothing but prosperity. But the true joy of the planet came when it was announced that Elysian had given birth to a pair of twin girls. The fae rejoiced as the twins reflected different aspects of the planet like their parents before them. The first was a young girl named Mab. Her skin was said to have been kissed by the dark night skies while the wintery north danced in her white hair. Mab would grow to become powerful in frosty magic that were akin to those that were said to have bleached her hair so white. Her twin sister was named Titania who much differently from her sister was adorned with pale skin and hair that blazed with the color of the sun. She would grow found of fire magic that seemed to light a small flicker of enjoyment whenever displayed. The citizens of Nysa fondly called the sisters the Celestial Twins as Mab reminded them of the night while Titania of the day.
The royal family watched over Nysa with a caring eye for millennia before a threat appeared. This threat wanted to consume everything the Fae had built in an instant. A meteor one hundred miles across hurtled towards the planet. After much discussion between Oberon and Elysian a painful decision was made in order to save all the creatures they loved so much. Oberon would use the full extent of his power to destroy the impending threat and protect the entire planet however this came at the cost of his life. There are few alive that could attest to what exactly happened but Oberon used his power and obliterated the meteor into thousands of pieces after which he disappeared from existence. Elysian despite her pain knew that it was in order to protect the planet but unfortunately he had not fully succeeded as the remains of the meteor showered down upon the planet. The shower caused devastation wherever the meteor landed and all the damage threatened to doom the entire planet. Elysian without a second thought used all of her power just like that of her husband to aid the planet, her power would flow through the planet causing new life to instantly burst to life and storms to cease. But like her husband would disappear from existence. For the first time in the history of the Fae the people were left without Oberon and Elysian as their leaders.
The Fae mourned their beloved leaders for an untold amount of time. However as tears subsided the Fae turned to the daughters of Oberon and Elysian. While at first both Mab and Titania promised to rule in as much wisdom as their parents and for a time they did. But differences arose between the sisters and fighting began. Eventually in an effort to escape each other for a time both established cities of their own outside of Kalella. In the icy north Mab created a city that broke the northern wind’s back with its high towers and strong walls. She fondly called the city Arctis Tor. In contrast Titania moved to the far south where she established a city nestled in the valleys just south of the rain forests of Themiscyra. The city was surrounded by flowers and trees and its walls were more natural than of a physical construction. Titania dubbed her gem Solara. The two sisters would never return to Kalella, the gem their parents so carefully nurtured into existence.
In time the two sister’s great power began to drastically change Nysa as each spread their influence. Mab claimed the birth place of her mother turning the once great fields into frozen tundra before freezing the Shimmering Sea solid. In retaliation Titania spread her influence northwards claiming all of Themiscyra and then the majority of the forest of Alfheim. Titania would turn all of her domain to the exact opposite of that of Mab’s, it would become eternal summer. The point of confrontation between two sisters came right at the equator of the planet. Mab struck first claiming the last bit of Alfheim as her own while Titania stated she had claim over the entire forest. It was then that the sister’s officially split Nysa in twain. They abolished the old government and set up separate ones claiming to be the legitimate rulers of all of Nysa. For the first time in all of fae history the Fae were forced to choose sides and like the hemispheres of the planet the citizens split right along the equator. After a millennia of uneasy peace between the two sisters war finally broke out and ravaged the entire planet as the climate patterns suddenly changed all around the world as the Fae marched to war. Millions of creatures died in this war but the true death blow to Fae unity came when due to the violent clashes of magic throughout the globe. One day a storm unlike any seen before it appeared above Kallela and ravaged the city to the point that it was no longer possible to inhabit it. The Fae were forced to abandon the great city and immediately blame flew from either end of the globe. Mab blamed the storm on Titania and Titania did the reverse. Whoever was to blame it no longer mattered as the Fae would forever be split from then on. In a tribute to their parents both Mab and Titania erected statues of the once great leaders in their respective palaces. After the fall of Kallela the Fae’s taste for blood soured and the two sisters were forced to the table to negotiate a peace. The two however would not budge on their respective demands leaving Nysa is a cease fire with fear that full scale war cold return at any moment. Countless millennia would pass between that ceasefire and the current day. Much has changed from the times of Oberon and Elysian. The location of the city of Kallela was lost to the Fae and the two sisters still remained holed up in their respective cities.
This is the state of Nysa as our story begins as one lost Saiyan soul wanders through space.

The icy snow lay on the ground undisturbed beneath the starry night sky. The air was still and the land quiet. All animals had grown quiet as the nocturnal animals returned to their homes knowing that the morning sun was nearing and the diurnal had yet to stir from their slumber. The land was peaceful.
Heavy breathing broke the silence as a figure darted across the frozen landscape. The figure’s breath leaving a cloudy trail before it dissipated only a few feet behind it. The figure was a woman, and a beautiful one at that. Her slender body was hugged by a pair of dark green pants that looked as though they were stitched out of grass and moss and a small beige vest. The vest itself looked like was constructed from two pedals of a flower and had the beige color turn to a deep red where it was meant to close. The overall look for the running woman was not that of someone who belonged in the frozen tundra, rather someone who belonged far to the south under the sun.
Her heart raced within her chest as the cold air continued to attack her lungs. Her cat like eyes darted from left to right as panic set in. There was only one thing on her mind and that was to continue running as fast as she could south. She knew safety was just beyond the horizon and then there she could finally breathe. A howl echoed through the silence and the girl’s head snapped backwards. Her ears could hear their movements before her eyes were able to find them. Snapping her head back forwards the girl tried to dig even deeper in order to stay ahead of them.
The crunch of the snow under her boot clad foot as each fell was a sound that seemed to hang in her ears. She was not sure why but no matter how hard she tried it would always sink back into her cognizant mind. Keep moving was what she tried to tell herself as she could hear their panting growing closer. Each stride was louder than the last, each breath hungrier with each passing second. She could feel their eyes locked on her, their beady eyes studying her with eagerness. Then she heard it, the jump. A sudden pain ripped across her arm as her eyes picked up what looked like an explosion erupted from the snow next to the girl. The momentum of whatever hit her caused her to stumble to the side before she continued sprinting as fast as she could. She heard it rolling on the snow as it got back to its feet and continued to chase after her.
She could not believe how far she had run. In the past she never claimed to be athletic or even capable of doing many of the physical tasks her friends challenged her with. Right now was different though this was something primal something she doubted she could ever do again. The stinging in her arm from the open cut that oozed blood was nothing compared to the burn in her legs as she darted into the upcoming tree line. She had been running for so long now that she could barely remember back to a time where she wasn’t. The upcoming trees held no life as they were nothing more than frozen dead wood. Their panting, their heavy strides and their growls she never lost that sound. They were right in her tracks she could only hope by crossing the divide that it would somehow cause them to turn back to cause them to forsake their prey. Just as she entered into the tree line something strange happened that she was not expecting. A loud piercing sound ripped through the air that almost made the woman’s ears bleed from the pitch, she could actually see the ripple of sound fly past her head as it smashed into a nearby tree. The tree exploded violently sending splinters splicing through the air. The girl brought her hands above her head to protect herself but by doing so several long shards of the tree slashed across her forearms. The only thing she could do was let out a yelp of pain as it happened.
One of them lunged forward, she could hear its strong legs push it off of the ground, and just as it did she pivoted to the side causing the creature to fly past it. As it landed though she was able to get a good look at what was chasing her. It walked on all fours, teeth sharp as razors, four blood red eyes adorned above its snout, a long tail that whipped somewhat back and forth and ears that were tiny in comparison to the creature but did little to help the creature function. The most remarkable thing about the creature though was that it did not have any fur despite living in the north, instead it had a dark grey thick hide that protected it from the cold. The creature from head to tail was probably about six and a half feet long with most of its body built primarily out of muscle. These were the hounds that were bred in the north, the hounds that were bred under the moon lit sky. The hound rolled back onto its feet and once again began to give chase.
The sun began to peak from behind the horizon casting long shadows amongst the frozen forest. It was then that the woman could see where her true destination really was. A flash of green peaked through the blinding rising sun. Hope was kindled anew causing the girl to dig deeper as her exhausted body trudged on. Each foot fall sank into the deep snow slowing her down but it did little to slow down her pursuers. With her heart beating ever faster and panic driving every motion she heard the high pitch again. She was not sure where the attack would come from next when suddenly the ground beneath her exploded sending her flying through the air. The woman clattered to the ground as she saw both hounds growing ever closer. Her body was wracked with pain and covered in dirt. Normally she would not have been able to move but she had to, she was so close she had to keep going. Without thinking her body rolled over and he staggered to her feet. The warmth of the rising sun caused her to go into a light jog. The green was so close that she could almost touch it, just one final hill. Her legs felt like molasses as time slowed. As the woman crested the hill the frozen tundra literally broke away into a lush green forest. Right in front of her however there was a small cliff face, what she had not realized was that she had unintentionally tried to cross into the south through one of the river valleys. The pause was just for the two hounds to be on her.
The first came across her back slicing open her shoulder before the hound disappeared down the cliff face. The second came at her legs with a wide open mouth. Its teeth sank deep into her thigh causing blood to shoot forth. The razor like teeth tore into her flesh like a hot knife through butter and caused the woman to scream out in pain. Her fist began to rain down on the hound in an effort to try and get it to release its death like grip. The sweet release came as the woman’s cat like eyes saw a figure approaching off in the distance. All she could make out the silhouette of the figure but then she saw its mouth move. It was then that she saw the air ripple right before the high pith sound slammed into her. She noticed that the hound actually released her leg just before being launched backwards through the air. The pain was excruciating as she actually felt the blood running down the side of her head from the attack. Her body flailed through the air as it plummeted down the side of the cliff into the water.
Her body crashed down into the water cause a loud thud sound. The woman was barely able to keep her eyes open as the pain from all of the attacks wracked her body. The swift current picked her up and carried her away, away from the hounds and away from the figure. She was free the warm waters of the south would carry her to safety. The woman would drift down the river occasionally being pulled under the surface and causing her exhausted body to struggle to come up for air. The woman was not sure how much time had passed but all she knew was that whenever she weakly looked back she could no longer see the tundra.
Eventually the current washed her wounded body up onto a larger rock. With what little strength she had left she started to pull herself up the rock face when there was a loud crack of the high pitched sound. Her body was tossed through the air and slammed down on the rock face. Her ribs were broken and she could barely breathe. She had landed on her stomach and in an attempt to get away she tried to crawl away. Blood from her wounds trailed down the rock face. Her half red and half blonde hair was scattered across her face.
“Impossible…you shouldn’t be here…” The woman mumbled as she tried to crawl away. She was suddenly met with a strong kick to the side of her face which caused her to roll over as blood began to pour from her mouth. Her vision was blurry and she could barely make out what was barely in front of her face. The world was fading to black as her mind was trying to lose consciousness.
“Those were the old times...we are in a new era…” The figure stated coldly. It was not a man’s voice but rather that of a woman. Suddenly a foot came crashing down on her hand snapping her back to reality as pain shot through her arm. A scream of terrified pain echoed throughout the green woods. The bones were crushed under the heel of the boot. Slowly the figure began to grind her heel in causing the woman to cry even more. “It does not matter where you run to…I will follow you anywhere and my hounds will enjoy every moment of it.” The figure growled in pleasure. The figure’s foot rose and then began to press done on the woman’s throat cause her to cough from lack of air.
“Now we are going to have some fun now,” The figure laughed as the forest was filled with the echo of the woman’s panic and pained scream.

“Sir you need fuel.” the ship beeped at him for what had to be the thirtieth time.
“Yes I know that, we can get fuel when we get to the Omega Collective.” Nasu shot back looking despairingly for a mute button somewhere. For an artificial intelligence the ship was acting awfully stupid sometimes.
“Sir, as I’ve told you 32 times now, you don’t have enough fuel to make it to the Omega Collective.” the ship said for apparently the 32nd time.
“I don’t need enough fuel, this is space. When we run out of fuel there is nothing to stop us, we’ll drift at a constant speed. An object in motion stays in motion, it’s a pretty basic concept. I’m sure you’ve heard of it before, as long as we’re on the right course, which is legitimately you’re only job right now, we’ll still hit the planet and be fine.” he said putting as much sarcasm into his voice as possible when talking to a machine.
“Sir, while I am flattered by the confidence, if my course is off by even .000000001% over this many light years of travel we would be far enough away that you would never even see the Omega Collective as we flew by with no ability to correct course. And then as you know you would be drifting aimlessly in space till we ran out of power and your life support failed. I feel obligated to mention that as an AI, I would be fine however, so truly the decision is up to you.” the ship shot back with perfect sincerity and Nasu had to remind himself that punching a hole in the ships mainframe would be counter productive.
God damned arrogant smug bastard, “Oh sir I would be fine, the decision is yours.” Nasu muttered under his breath his temper rising. “Fine, scan ahead and find the next habitable planet, put us down as close to fuel as you can and lets refill and get going as fast as possible.” he said this time loud enough for the ship to hear him.
Instantly the ship took a hard right and the left side of his face was abruptly introduced to the wall. God damned arrogant, smug, Vindictive, apparently hearing sensitive, ship. Still he felt somewhat relieved, he would fuel up at the next planet as fast as possible and be on his way, hopefully not losing more than a few hours in the process. Over all it wasn’t exactly a huge loss. And one in hindsight he had probably made far too big an issue out of. Maybe he should apologize to the ship? Did AI take apologies, for that matter did they hold grudges?
“Sir if you look in front of you now you will see the planet Nysa, which you will be...arriving at shortly.”
Nasu looked up ignoring the short pause in the ships sentence to see a planet seemingly divided on itself. The top half of the planet was frost, forests, and mountains covered in snow. At what looked like the dead center of the planet everything changed. The bottom half of this new world was covered in tropical forests, grasslands that stretched for miles, and sand covered beaches and islands.
Nasu was of course headed for the frozen hellscape.
“Ship, alter the course slightly, land us in the tropical section, and start slowing down at this rate we’ll burn up in the atmosphere upon entry.” Nasu said, feeling this had turned out far better than he could have hoped. Maybe with some luck he could spend some time on a beach and get some sun while his ship was being refueled...maybe even spend some extra zeni and get a new simulator with a new AI...
“Sir, as I’ve tried to warn you a number of times, we have no fuel left. In order to change course so dramatically and set ourselves online with Nysa, I had to burn off our remaining fuel.”
“Wait what the hell do you mean we’re out! So we’re screwed is what you’re trying to tell me!?” Nasu shouted. He knew it didn’t make any difference that he was yelling, apparently the ship could hear him even if he whispered and it wasn’t going to change his fate over all but somehow the act of yelling at the ship for what it had done made him feel better.
“At the moment we can neither change course nor slow down. However the atmosphere does not appear dense enough to cause the ship to burn up upon entry. And fortunately you will survive. Slightly worse for wear but you will live. And after some repairs and some fuel you should be able to set off for the Omega collective again.” the ship countered.
“So I’m not going to die?” Nasu said letting go of the breath he didn’t realize he had been holding.
“Well…” the ship said seeming to enjoy Nasu’s anxiety. “I can’t say that for sure. You’re about to crash land on a foreign planet, alone and injured you’re going to need to barter for help repairing me as well as fuel. So there is still a good chance something could kill you. But you now have a fighting shot.” the ship finished.
“Oh joy, well when you put it that way.” Nasu said looking up at the screen at the rapidly approaching planet. The planet was growing in size as they grew closer and even though the ship assured him he would survive the immediate crash he was still nervous. From the look of it he was going to land just north of the snow capped forest in a tundra of some sort. So he would either burn with his ship or freeze in the arctic...great.
The lights in the ship started flashing red. “Imminent collision detected. Please alter course.” the emergency system said over the loudspeakers.
“I know that!” Nasu shouted walking to the front of the ship.
“Imminent collision in 5.” the loudspeaker announced as the ship hit the atmosphere for the first time and Nasu was flung forward his head colliding with the monitor.
“God damn it!” he swore
“4”
“You should probably strap yourself in.” the AI shouted over the loudspeaker
“3.”
“Thanks for letting me know that sooner!” Nasu shouted back, as he stood and ran over to one of the seats, blood already running down his face before the damned ship even crashed.
“2.”
“I didn’t think I had to!”
“1.”
Nasu was working on a good comeback when his world suddenly went black as the ship collided with the ground.
****
People say that in a fire the smoke puts you to sleep. That if you’re already asleep you’ll never wake up. Those people have never been doused in rocket oil then lit on fire. Nasu woke up screaming. He came to in what was left of his ship, still strapped into the chair but with a steady drip of oil leaking from somewhere above him onto his jacket sleeve. The fire had burnt a hole through his jacket and onto his arm which wasn’t nearly as resilient, the fire had also spread up his arm burning off all the hair that had grown there leaving the remains of his arm burnt, bloodied, and smelling like sulphur from the burning hair. By the time he came to his senses his throat was already cracked and dry from the effort he put into screaming in pain.
Without a thought for if his back was injured or he should be staying still he ripped the restraints off of himself and blasted a hole in the side of his ship. “Stop, drop and roll. Stop, drop and roll. Stop, drop and roll.” it became the mantra he said to himself as he dove into the snow. He kept repeating the phrase over and over, long after the fire on his arm was out, even longer after he had stopped moving and lay on his back in the snow. He repeated the phrase to try and dull the pain from his now mangled arm. As long as he repeated his mantra he wasn’t thinking about his arm, he wasn’t thinking about how the burn was deep enough he could see bone or the smell of burnt flesh that was now causing him to gag. Still repeat all he wanted the pain from burning flesh didn’t subside noticeably. It took him a long time, but eventually he was able to compartmentalize the pain and move past it. His arm still hurt, a fresh wave of fire spiked through him with every heartbeat but he could think, he could function. Keeping his arm packed in the snow he looked around. The ship had just barely missed the forest not clearing it by nearly as much as he thought he would. The impact crater from the landing also wasn’t as large as he thought it would be looking at the ground he realized that was because he had landed on a grassy tundra instead of solid rock which probably would have killed him regardless of what the ship had thought. While the top layer of ground was frozen underneath was soft dirt which cushioned the descent enough to spare his life. Turning back towards his ship he noticed fire from the crash was pretty much out but the smoke rose for miles into the clear sky a sign for anyone to see that he was out here. That something was wrong.
It was that thought that galvanized Nasu into movement. He couldn’t stay here, not like this. He reached up and touched his face, apparently he had been unconscious long enough for his head to stop bleeding and the blood to dry up. But still between the fire and the smell of blood, it was a clear sign to any predators on the foreign planet that he was weak prey, easy for the taking. He couldn’t stay, but where could he go?
Looking around to one side he saw the frozen tundra spreading on for miles, from horizon to horizon, he couldn’t make out any buildings or shelter. The other side was the forest. No less frozen but there was room for anything trying to kill him to hide as well. Normally he would fly above it, but after hitting his head and the constant pain in his arm he wasn’t sure if he had enough concentration to stay in the air, and at this point a fall from even just above the tree line might kill him.
Still he had to get moving, and since Nasu knew there was a tropical climate on the other side of the forest he decided that was the best bet for now. Taking off his t-shirt Nasu tore it into strips of cloth which he packed with snow and tied around his arm to lessen the pain slightly and then took off. His jacket while didn’t completely isolate him from the cold. The weights were artificially, added to enhance his training but did nothing to provide attitional warmth. But as he began to walk into the forest at least it got him out of the wind which was a noticeable improvement.
He hadn’t realized just how cold it was at first. The burning in his arm had kept him distracted enough he never realized that it was well below freezing outside and it was the middle of the day. He began fearing how cold this place would be by night time and on top of that he had no shelter, no way of getting warm. If he didn’t cross the equator before dark there was a solid chance he wouldn’t last the night.
As he began walking he could feel the cold start to bite into any open skin that it could find. His face was the easiest target, but his hands even in his pockets soon began shaking as well. Taking another of the few strips of shirt he had left he tied it around the front of his face in a makeshift scarf anything to keep as much skin covered as possible. None of that compared to his feet however. He hadn’t been wearing boots when he left New Vegeta, just regular sneakers clearly not anticipating walking through snow. The water soon soaked his socks and shoes making each step a burning hell.
No one tells you that when you have frostbite your body doesn’t differentiate between hot and cold, it just feels pain. Each new step to Nasu felt like his feet were on fire matching his arm. It got so bad Nasu even considered trying to fly again, going so far as to hover a few feet off the ground for a second before crashing down and having to brace himself with his burnt arm causing a new wave of pain to shoot up the length of the arm immobilizing him for a few moments before he could keep moving. All and all he was off to a great start on Nysa but at least it could only go up from here.
The universe however considered that a challenge. No sooner had the thought entered his mind than a pair of glowing eyes appeared in the darkness in front of him. Normally this wouldn’t concern him. Today he could barely stay on his feet and the eyes seemed to be at chest level. Well at least...Nasu felt a sharp pain in his leg and was thrown to his knees.
Looking up he saw a large wolf sprinting back towards the cover of the trees. God damned the first creature had been a distraction.
The first creature...where. Before he could find it again or even think the creature was on him. It lunged for his neck going for a quick kill but Nasu had snapped his head too the side looking for the creature, pure luck was all that saved his life. Instead the creature went barreling into him. Probably 200lbs of sprinting wolf hit him square in the chest. While it knocked the wind out of him almost instantly it did accomplish one thing, it put one of his targets within punching distance.
Lashing out with his good arm Nasu tried to drive a hole straight through the wolf’s chest with his fist but the beast was faster than he’d expected and he only landed a glancing blow to the beasts side. Still he could feel bones cracking as the beast flew off of him and skidded to a stop a few feet away. Before he could sit up the other wolf was standing a foot in front of it’s companion staring at Nasu unmoving. Slowly the wolf who Nasu had thought he knocked out rose to it’s feet. From where he was kneeling he could see the dent in the beast’s chest and a spike of pride shot through him. They might have gotten the jump on him but he wasn’t gonna go down without a fight.
The wounded wolf stood to it’s full height slowly his eyes never leaving Nasu. The wolf shook itself much the way a dog shakes water out of it’s coat, the only difference being that no water left the demon wolf’s coat, instead his chest reinflated itself. Mending right before Nasu’s eyes becoming good as new.
“God damn...really? Really?!?!” Nasu said standing and staring at the creature that just healed itself from the damage he had been so proud of a moment before. “That’s bull and you know it!” he shouted at the two wolves who were now splitting up and encircling Nasu once again. Reaching behind him with his good hand Nasu grabbed hold of his short sword Folgen. It translated to consequences and for now it meant there were going to be consequences for these wolves. They may have had the upper hand but now that Nasu knew he was in a fight he sure as hell was going to be the last one standing.
Once the sword left the scabbard both wolves stopped in their tracks, their noses started twitching, until then wolves had both been dead silent in their attacks. It had actually been a mixture of effective and creepy. But once their noses twitched smelling Nasu’s sword the pair began growling in unison. Apparently they knew what a sword was. Good.
There was a rush of adrenaline through him as Nasu saw the first wolf charge in, he couldn’t see it but he was sure the other wolf was charging as well. Instead of trying to dodge however Nasu used his good leg to throw himself forwards toward the wolf that he saw charge him. Lowering his shoulder he barreled into the wolf’s chest, before they hit the ground he tried to drive his sword into the wolf’s chest. Again quicker than he gave the beast credit for the wolf moved slightly causing Nasu to only leave a long gash all along the wolf’s side.
Quickly rolling off the wolf and flinging himself back to his feet he cursed knowing the beast would be healed up soon enough. Strangely enough however both wolfs had backed off. The uninjured creature was once again standing in front of his injured companion blood flowing freely into the beasts black coat. Once again the injured wolf shook itself, but this time the wound didn’t heal up. This time blood sprayed everywhere and the wolf fell to it’s knees.
The uninjured creature snapped it’s head towards Nasu letting out a snarl that would have made a lesser man run for cover. Nasu just smiled.
“I can hurt you now.” he said with a vicious grin on his face “And you know it.” he might not understand why the sword could injure the wolf where his fist couldn’t but he was sure as hell going to use that to his advantage
The wolf didn’t make any more noise but his eyes opened slightly wider before narrowing into a hate filled glare as the wolf began to circle him.
“My my what big eyes you have.” Nasu said matching the wolf step for step. He knew if he kept this up the injured wolf would soon be behind him but if he stopped the non-injured creature would circle around and take him from behind and he thought that prospect seemed far worse.
Every step brought with it new throbbing pain in his leg. He risked a quick look down and he could see that the wound the beast had torn open still hadn’t healed blood flowing down his leg and pooling in his already drenched sock. His arm was still a mass of burns and pain as well. But he didn’t let any of that show, you don’t show weakness to a predator, then they see you as prey, weak and it's their instinct to attack.
Finally the beast finished circling him. That meant it’s injured friend must be behind him…
With his good leg Nasu kicked off the ground leaping straight back sword in hand. He easily cleared the injured wolf who was standing up preparing to charge Nasu’s back. Instead however the beast was met with Nasu’s sword. The wolf was caught off guard and this time the injured creatures reactions weren’t fast enough. The sword caught the wolf between it’s eyes splitting it’s head down the middle and a pool of blood stained the pure white snow as it fell.
It’s companion clearly not expecting Nasu’s move either looked on in shock for a moment before letting out a piercing howl of loss and sorrow. It’s eyes mad with rage snapped back to Nasu and without a thought it charged. Nasu didn’t know how much he had left in him at this point. He was still losing blood rapidly from his leg and his head was growing light. His vision wasn’t tunneled yet but he could tell he was losing his peripherals. He needed to end this fast.
The beast leapt at Nasu who put his sword straight out in front of him and reached out with his telekinesis. Nasu grabbed the wolf and instead held him steady not allowing him to change course instead making sure his leap was straight and true right at Nasu’s sword.
The look in the wolf’s eyes was one of surprisingly intelligent shock. A split second before the sword drove through the creature's neck Nasu swore he heard another voice in his head questioning “What?” but that thought was quickly erased as the beast impaled itself. Both it’s weight and momentum was more than enough to drive the creature into Nasu knocking them both over.
With the last of his strength Nasu pushed the now dead and wolf off of him sheathing his sword down his back again Nasu dragged himself to a nearby tree and pried himself into a sitting position. Reaching into his pocket he pulled out the last strip of cloth he had and tied it around his leg to stop the bleeding. It was a futile gesture, he didn’t have the energy to start moving again, but if he didn’t make it to the tropical side of the planet by dark he knew he’d freeze to death in the night, already he was starting to shiver again now that the adrenaline from the fight had worn off.
Nasu wasn’t sure how long he sat there trying to recover, looking up he could see the sun was already half hidden behind the trees. It would only be another thirty minutes or before it was full night. If the wolves were bold enough to attack him in broad daylight maybe he wouldn’t have to worry about freezing after all.
Leaning his head back against the tree he knew he wouldn’t be able to move again tonight. Still as he leaned back he saw a woman in the forest off in the distance. The girl’s bright red hair trailed behind her spinning and swaying seemingly on it’s own as the woman made a slow circle around Nasu always at the very edge of his line of site.
“Hello!” he shouted out to her. She might be his last chance, if she heard him she might be able to help, or at least lead him to shelter. “Hello! Please help!” he shouted out, but before the sound would have even reached her the woman danced off further into the forest and well out of Nasu’s line of vision.
The sun had finally set and Nasu had begun to shiver and think even more depressing thoughts before he saw another person. But then he wasn’t sure it was a person.
Nasu was shaking pretty badly by that point. He needed rest too, time for his body to recover. Maybe he should close his eyes. Just for a second.
His eyes shot open not even a second later, as he heard footsteps crunch in the snow. Or they would have had they not been frozen shut.
“What happened here?” the stranger said, his voice was soft but deep and had a musical quality to it. Nasu heard him walk around the area where he had killed the two wolves. “Who could have done this?” he said still almost talking more to himself than anyone else it seemed like.
Nasu knew if he didn’t get help he would die, but some instinct deep inside him warned him that he should stay quiet. That alerting the man to his presence was a bad idea. Still it was the only bad idea he had.
“Sir,” he tried to say but his tongue was frozen and thick with dehydration and what came out was more of a combination grunt and moan.
“You!” he heard the man shout as Nasu’s pitiful sound reached him. “You did this!”
Nasu still couldn’t open his eyes but he didn’t need to see to tell the man clearly wasn’t happy. Maybe the wolf’s were his pets?
“How the hell did you come into these woods and kill...no it’s not important. What’s done is done.” he wasn’t shouting the but his voice dropped even softer and there was an intensity in his voice that made Nasu shiver.
He could hear the man walking closer and closer, each step in the snow making a definitive crunch. Convinced would be the last sounds he ever heard Nasu drew in a deep breathe to try and fight his attacker to the last. Instead the man grabbed him by his hair and began dragging Nasu away. At first he flailed still trying to defend himself causing the man to stop for a moment. But only a moment before a fist was driven into Nasu’s stomach, his last thoughts before falling unconscious were of how smug the ship would feel when it realized it had been right. He was still going to die on this miserable planet.
****
When Nasu woke up he knew he was dead. For one thing he was no longer in any pain, it wasn’t like most of his pain was gone and he was still stiff or sore like he had healed over time. All of it was gone, just suddenly vanished. Years of accumulated bruises, aches, scars that still hurt when it rained or got too cold, all of it just gone from the time he passed out to the second he opened his eyes. And the sudden complete absence of pain was like a drug in itself. Opening his eyes he was almost euphoric feeling better than he could ever remember.
The second hint that he was dead was that he woke up in what had to be the most comfortable bed in existence. It was so soft he sank in almost completely, with sheets that felt smoother than anything he’d ever experienced in his life. The bed was long enough and wide enough he could lay in any direction he chose and his feet never went over the edge. If this was to be his reward for how he had lived his life he felt it was honestly a little better than he deserved.
Actually if he were being honest it was significantly better than he deserved. Pain free, comfortable. The only thing that struck him as odd was all the white around him. He had heard that some heavens where white, and you got to party on top of clouds but it seemed kind of boring, everything in the room was white. The bed, the sheets, the chairs, the lamps, the carpet, it was a mass of pure white so much so that it made Nasu dizzy for a moment. Closing his eyes he took a steadying breath and looked around for something anything that wasn’t snow white. And he found it. It was his own reflection, in the walls. At first he hadn’t noticed it because everything they reflected themselves was white to match, but every wall to his new room was a clear mirrored surface. It was eerie the mirrors stretched from floor to ceiling giving no sign of break reflecting everything back in his room perfectly. Looking around he saw that all four walls were identical floor to ceiling mirrors making the room seem much larger than it was at first. Standing up he walked around the perimeter of the room in ten steps for each side being sure to keep his hand against the wall to avoid bumping into the edge by mistake.
He also noticed that while his new room was beautiful and cozy, it had no door. There was no way out for him. This seemed a far more fitting afterlife. Trapped for eternity in a room only with no one to keep him company except his own reflection, how long until he went stir crazy? Hell with stir crazy with only his own thoughts for company how long until he went legitimately crazy? Days, weeks, years? It was only a matter of time. Walking over to the sink (white of course) he ran the water letting it run over his hands for a moment before splashing some on his face.
Slow to the uptake, for the first time he noticed he wasn’t in his previous clothing either. He was wearing a long flannel shirt in place of his jacket and black sweat pants in place of the jeans he always wore. Also he was barefooted now, with the carpet being so lush and soft he had completely ignored that as well. Truthfully though it didn’t bother him all that much. If he was going to be spending all eternity in this room what did he need with shoes? And why would he expect his clothes to carry over with him once he was dead?
Walking back to the bed Nasu sat on the edge and put his face in his hands, it was a lot to take in. He had hoped when he died he would see his mother again, but honestly after everything he’d done in life did he deserve it? He had killed a lot of people in the name of vengeance some of them innocent, and not a lot had probably deserved the fate he’d given them. And in the end he had still fallen short, passing up his one opportunity to get vengeance for his mother’s murder in favor of helping his family who later left him for dead.
It was bordering on pathetic that even after he died was still wallowing in self pity. Wasn’t he supposed to stop being a little bitch at some point? He certainly hoped so, all and all his afterlife wasn’t so bad. Sure it would get pretty boring but at least he wasn’t being horribly maimed or tortured. Hell he even had a bed to sleep on. Looking around at what was to be his eternal prison Nasu smiled mischieviously. Drawing a small amount of energy to his finger he launched a small contained energy beam at the mirrored walls.
Instead of breaking or cracking the mirrors or dispersing as Nasu had expected the energy absorbed into the walls causing the entire mirrored surface to begin to glow with an icy blue light that rippled out from the point of impact like he had blasted perfectly still water instead of a solid wall. The effect was chilling and inadvertently sent shivers down Nasu’s spine.
Before the light had faded Nasu sensed an enormous energy surge. It wasn’t a person, of that much he was sure, it didn’t feel like any person he’d ever met before powerful or not. It felt like the calm before the storm, the raw power behind a blizzard or a cold breeze. Snapping his head towards the energy spike he noticed the far wall of his room melted away to form a doorway. There was no leakage or change, one second there was a perfectly mirrored wall the next a section was just gone, seemingly evaporated into a precise opening with ninety degree angles, he’d never seen anything like it before and considering everything that had happened to him today it was still the strangest thing that had happened in recent memory.
It only took seconds for the universe to make him have to eat those words as a stunningly beautiful woman walked into the room. Her skin was as black as the night sky on a new moon, her hair however was a pure contrast, pure white as new snow and flowing down to the small of her back. She had frost blue eyes that seemed to see him down to his core and right through him at the same time. She was wearing a sleeveless gray business suit and short skirt that left just enough to the imagination to be tempting but not sluttish, and she walked in with the confidence of someone who instantly owned whatever room she entered from the second she walked in, and Nasu privately admitted to himself that he understood it. Just her presence left him breathless. It wasn’t just her raw beauty the energy he had sensed earlier came from her...but how? The power he felt, it was different than any energy signature he’d ever sensed before alien or otherwise. It felt raw, wild, unrestrained, it scared the hell out of him.
He considered powering up to prepare himself to fight. But he knew he didn’t have a chance. Instead he stayed perfectly still keeping his eyes on the new comer, at least she wouldn’t be able to attack him from behind, not that she would have needed to anyways. She approached him slowly her eyes roaming over him from head to toe, seemingly taking everything in. Without a word she stopped directly in front of him as if expecting him to react. When he didn’t she finally broke the silence.
“So your spirit isn’t entirely broken. Good, it would be a shame to find the man who killed the Cú Sídhe to be a weakling.” she said her voice cold but oddly musical. She had an Irish accent which Nasu recognized from one of his friend in the Red Flag however his friend’s voice didn’t have the power behind it this woman’s did.
Still Nasu was unsure how to respond and in a rare insightful moment he chose silence over opening his mouth and risking offense. Instead he stood up off the bed and bowed his head to his apparent jailer in a gesture of acknowledgement and hopefully respect.
“Good,” she said again almost to herself this time. Once again she started walking towards him, she was almost on top of him in two long steps. He noticed they were long steps because he was staring at her long legs which were left bare by her short but businesslike skirt. “I had wondered how long it would take you to test your walls.” she said reaching out to lay a hand on his chest and beginning to circle around him. “To find if you were truly imprisoned or not, and you didn’t disappoint.”
Completing her circle she let her hand drop and Nasu felt goosebumps rise over the area of his skin where she had placed her hand. And even though she scared the hell out of him he regretted that she broke the contact. Apparently some of it must have shone in his face because the woman gave one look and laughed.
“Oh my child, you still have a long way to go if you seek to earn my...affections” she said pausing on how to phrase the last word.
“But more time for that later. Now is the time for introductions. Who are you? One who enters so brazenly into the forest, who challenges that which he should not and lives to tell?”
He didn’t know the proper form of address but he knew staying silent would only lead to him giving the offense he was hoping to avoid so he just hoped to keep it short and sweet.
“My name is Nasu Hattori ma’am. My ship crashed here, I’m sorry, I didn’t know I wasn’t supposed to-”
She cut him off with an upraised hand. It was a small gesture but one of rebuke he could tell he had said something ungodly stupid and inwardly cringed.
“Ma’am? Ma’am!!! I will forgive you for this once traveller and only once due to your ignorance of who I am. As I said, this is a time for introductions and it would be rude of me to leave you wanting.” she drew herself up to her full height and even though it was almost half a foot shorter than Nasu he felt like he was looking up to her.
“Mortal, my name, is Mab. The Queen of Air and Darkness, First born of Oberon and Elysian and the rightful ruler of Nysa.”
