'Chirp chirp.' 'Chirp chirp'
Sunlight was just starting to peek over the walls of the school, the morning rays illuminating the gradually improving structure as birds sing their songs and a certain blue haired teen rolls out of his makeshift bed. He knew Kit was going to whine again that Ethan spent the night upstairs instead of in those drafty old catacombs but no amount of cajoling was going to get the teen to sleep down there. The place was a cave, 'People don't live in caves.' Ethan had recited to Kit over and over, they hadn't in thousands of years, why should he have to? The nights after all weren't unbearably cold and they didn't yet have so much as a single student so it wasn't like someone would mind him sleeping in the school building rather then below. Nope, no soiree Bob, Ethan was much to independent to follow that particular lead, if his older brother wanted to live in a hole in the ground, fine, Ethan couldn't change that, but he wasn't going to do the same.
Ethan still however didn't want to go out of his way to annoy his brother so he always woke early and packed away his bedding, a sleeping bag, mat and pillow from a camping store in town, before Kit would be up and about. The blue haired boy then started his morning routine which began with a bath, at least as close to one as he could get. trotting outside with his boots and pants in hand, the teen went for a dip in one of the fish ponds surrounding the school. Not that Ethan was shy but the newly greening gardens afforded enough privacy so that if Kit did awaken early, the blue haired boy wouldn't have to worry about getting spotted and potentially reprimanded for using the fish pond as a bath tub. Frankly he didn't know what Kit was doing to keep clean, they didn't exactly have functioning plumbing yet but they were getting close.
Wish his bath complete, Ethan dressed, slipping on his pants and boots and then headed back inside. True, everything above the waist was still dripping wet, but he didn't mind a little water and it wasn't like Kit was going to complain, it certainly beat smelling like hormones. From there Ethan would start breakfast and wait for his brother to emerge from the 'Kit cave', a pet name Ethan had started to refer to the catacombs by and a reference to one of the programs he'd listened to on his radio about a masked crime fighter who fancied himself a flying mammal. Breakfast wasn't anything fancy, at first Kit was doing the shopping which as far as Ethan was concerned was a dismal affair. The blonde was buying nothing but carbs so that they could keep their energy up cheaply, but it was at the cost of protein, something Ethan couldn't stomach. So from their little camp stove no wafted the scent of some of Kit's carbohydrate rich noodles mixed with what ever fish Ethan could find at the market and a pinch of salt to give it something resembling flavor. It wasn't going to be the tastiest meal but it was certainly better then what they'd been enduring so far.

Several things were in the young adults mind. His fight with Anri was at the top of those things. The fight had occurred over a week ago and he had kept Ethan from knowing the truth of it. Really Ethan was oblivious to the entire state of things. He was not capable of handling such a difficult fight, and knowing Ethan he would try to fight even if it meant certain defeat. Kit was meditating softly on the floor of his bedroom. He had decorated the innerards of his room with scented candles that were almost constantly lit to keep the room lit. They smelled of fresh cherry blossoms, something Kit found quite soothing. Ironically he found it smelled even better than the actual cherry blossom tree that could be felt from just outside the kitchen window. Saito spent much of his meditation time here. While most found the outdoors to be a more acceptable setting, he felt far more in tune with his thoughts in the absolute silence of his room. Ethan thought he was clever, waking up before his brother was up and about. The truth was that Kit rose long before the sun did, and chose to meditate over the days findings, waiting for Ethan to wake up, mostly because the boy made him breakfast. It was a fair trade, Kit pretended not to notice that the boy was still not sleeping in his quarters, and Ethan made a half hearted attempt at pancakes with the occasional rebellious bacon making its way onto his plate.
He could hear Ethan clomping about upstairs, which was his sign that he needed to stop his deep contemplation and go join the boy for breakfast. Rising, Kit was in nothing more than black boxer briefs. Something that didn't bother him in the least but may have been a tad uncomfortable for his brother. Most men did not enjoy watching the bulges of others flaunted about. Kit however was not shy about his choices. He had a spare set of clothes upstairs in the bathroom cabinet should company arrive, but he felt it was better for his morning meditation and stretching to remain relaxed. Slowly rising, his arms reaching up towards the ceiling in a deep stretch, he blew out the bright candles and made his way up the stairs towards the smell of breakfast. The chamber he had found the old sensei was now redecorated. It was almost like a break room. A sole deck of cards sat on a stone table that had once held the orb that Kit had interacted with. He felt the room served little purpose at the moment, as did the entire downstairs. However with alien creatures running rampant through the city it truly was safer underground. If the aliens couldn't find them that was better. And God forbid they found Ethan in the night and Saito failed to hear the boys screams as he was flayed alive by a sell sword like Anri, or a tyrant like tundra.
He snapped out of it as the door to the closet opened revealing the mornings light. He could already smell the breakfast cooking which was nice. Ethan had developed a talent for cooking that Saito never would. It was possible that he wasn't any good at cooking at all and Saito was just imagining it because his own cooking was just that terrible, but as far as he could tell the boy belonged in a kitchen. Ethan would never have it though, he loved the thrill of battle too much. Saito made his way over to the table, a book sitting in Kit's spot at the small dining table. There were two chairs, and hardly room for two people to actually eat. Each plate fit on the table perfectly with room for a fork and one of them to have a glass. The other option was the kneeling table in the dining room, however for reading he found it more relaxing to sit upright. Saito sat down, picking up the book and opening it to the most recent page. This was a morning ritual. He would read the teachings of prior masters and talk to Ethan while he did it. At times this was the only conversation the two had in a day.
"Good morning little brother. Did you finish your lessons"
He probably could have asked something more personal, but Saito always was business first. Ethan had been given a set number of informative writings to read. Some of them provided him with information regarding the Crane's history, and others were more combat focused, helping the boy refine his combat style. Saito had told the boy to read at least five chapters a day. Of which book and in what combination was unimportant to him, but he always seemed to ask about them. Saito had already read them all, and surely when he was finished with Master Jin's book which he held in his hand Ethan would be assigned to read it too. While physical strength was important, feeding the mind could not be replicated.

Ethan wasn't being nearly a cerebral about their situation as Kit was, for him, taking things one day at a time and ejoying every day as it came was perfect. They boy's duties around the school kept him busy and active and while Kit spent his evenings leafing through old books, the blue haired boy was busy cleaning up this disused room or that. In another week he hoped to have the parts he needed to get the school's well pump running again, although for that they would need electricity and that was going to be a whole other progect given that the lines in this section of the city have been down for years. That matter wasn't important now though as Ethan brought his thoughts from pondering the day's chores, back to his cooking. He heard Kit's footsteps entering the kitchen and glanced to find his older brother clad on in his undies with another book in hand. Ethan's really could not have cared less, he himself was practically a nudist untill his mother had scolded him enough times to get him to at least wear pants.
"Morning to you too captain grumpy." Ethan joked and started to scoop their meal out of the pan and onto their plates. "Yeah, I'm going through that one about that 'chalk-rah' stuff. Seems kind of neat. Even got some ideas for it." the boy continued as he finished serving breakfast and sat down at their diminutive table, placing Kit's plate in front of him. Digging in without another word, Ethan scooped up some of his salted fish and rice and started to munch. It was actually surprisingly not horrible, although in reality hunger does make the best sauce and with only three meals of this meager size a day with no snacks in between, Ethan could be assured they would both be hungry for each of his culinary adventures.
"Mmm, so what's the plan today?" the boy asked once the first mouth was down. "I've got to get to work on the south end of the roof or else we're going to be swimming down in the Kit-cave when the next storm hits."

Saito couldn't help be let out short laugh. His mouth was closed so it ended up quiet enough that Ethan may not of even heard it. He was impressed with the boy's work ethic. He was not however very pleased with the boys perception. Folding over the top right page of his newest book he closed it, standing and pushing in his chair just as Ethan set down their breakfast. Slowly the older brother would walk over towards the doorway to their house, his strut taking an excruciatingly short stride to ensure that every word he wanted to say got out before he reached his destination.
"I believe the common term now for that Chakra is called Ki, a spirit energy locked inside of us all. I'm glad to see you keeping up with your studies Ethan. You have been doing so well why don't I reward you for it."
Saito had been hard at work daily for the last several months. On the days he would send Ethan to meditate or study, he would continue working. On the days Ethan went to town, often Saito would as well to accomplish the tasks that simply couldn't be done from the solitude of the dojo. His hand ran across the wall over to a light switch, and although the room was already bright, it felt that much brighter when Kit hit the switch and a small light bulb popped on above their head. Saito had fixed the electricity, had retiled the entire roof, and had finished most of the repairs necessary to make for a running dojo, with the exception of the well from out back. With the river in such close proximity he never found it really necessary to have water running in the bathroom's. He had already connected the Kitchen plumbing to the neighborhood so that if worst came to worst, or if Kit just wanted a pot of tea, he could have it without traveling.
"I believe our roof will be fine, I took the liberty of handling that last thursday. And I had the city reward us with electricity using the last of my funds...well the last after a different little expenditure."
He couldn't help but smile, which may have been strange for Ethan to see considering Kit rarely ever smiled. He was just proud of their work. Ethan had been so preoccupied in getting things done he hadn't realized that they really were mostly finished. The dojo had been in a state of repair for two months and now it seemed that the two of them handled those repairs alone. Not everything looked pretty. The lightbulb in fact was flickering because Kit had found it at the junk yard. These decoration issue's could be solved later, for now they needed to celebrate.
"A while back I promised that I would teach you how to guard your nose. I think I may need to make good on that today."
Saito walked back over to his plate and sat down, his usual demure spirit still not taking hold. Something about today had Kit in a good mood. He would face off against Ethan but this time not in just any old spar. He would be able to show Ethan a power he may have never seen before. His heart was pounding nearly out of his chest at the idea that his brother had never seen an energy attack (sans the one he used on the floorboards a few months back), and that now with Kit in control of a significant number of attacks, he could show Ethan and help him to grow as quickly as he had.

Ethan quirked an eyebrow as Kit get up from the table without so much as touching his breakfast, though he reasoned it was probably to get some tea and so the boy wasn’t too put off by the action, at least initially. However as Kit started making his way towards the door at an agonizingly slow pace, his normal gate cut by at least half, the boy sat back in his seat, unsure of what to make of his brother’s actions. As kit spoke however his meaning became clear, although his manner of correcting Ethan’s terminology prompted the blue haired boy to simply shrug at his brother in return.
“The book’s got even more names for it in there, I thought you would have liked me using the long one.” Ethan responded in between Kit’s own words, and then the light came on, well flickered in a desperate attempt to fully ignite it’s self. The constant sputtering of the bulb was a little unsettling, Ethan was pretty sure he knew a bit more about electricity then his older brother and in spite of the light’s questionable lineage, the inconsistency of it’s illumination was more indicative of failing wiring, no doubt from the building’s decades long abandonment. Still it was nice to know they had some power now, Ethan though would have to quickly turn his attention to the wiring though to ensure all of their hard work didn’t burn down in the middle of the night from a short circuit.
“Heh, that’s good, good going bro.” the teen replied and looked back to his breakfast. Kit however continued speaking, bringing up an episode from their past that the blue haired boy was sure his brother had long forgotten. The offer to show him how to cover up his face was a little ill-timed as Ethan was now quite the accomplished martial artist himself. While he lacked Kit’s raw power, the boy was sure he was still faster and perhaps almost a par with Kit’s talent, although he chose to ignore some of it from time to time just for the sake of style.
“Hah, a little late there Kit, I know how to block my face already.” Ethan chuckled and scooped up some of his meal. “But since you’ve been doing my work behind my back, guess I’ll have to accept. Maybe instead you can show me how you did that glowing fist thing, that really hurt.” the boy continued with a rye smile.

His fingers fiddled with the chop sticks to his right, snapping the wood apart into two separate sticks so that he could begin eating. Ethan had been kind enough to meet Saito's request of scrambled eggs, and he would eat before physically standing to meet his brother. Though he hardly had to stand for Ethan to recognize the use of his own Ki energy. With how easy it was for Kit to transfer from having never used Ki energy before in his life to now using it as a necessary part of his battle tactics, he imagined Ethan could pick it up just as quickly. Taking a small bit of egg at the end of his chopsticks he spoke, allowing the steam from the egg to rise and cool while he spoke.
"Interestingly enough, I only recently gained control of that attack. What I have found is that when the body requires it most we are able to do incredible things. In this case I am able to coat my fist in a physical manifestation of my spiritual energy. Go ahead and stand up."
Confident that this ah-ha moment wouldn't take longer than the time it took Kit to eat his breakfast, he popped the egg into his mouth and picked up the next piece. He waited for his brother to be standing away from the table, as he motioned for him to do so, and then he would speak again. Saito had his manners, and would never consider speaking with a mouth full of food.
"Ethan, have you ever felt as though your spirit could yet fight on although your body was weak. This mental energy, which we will call Ki, is present within you at all times. I imagine it like a canteen filled with water. All you have to do is release the lid and use whatever you need. Allowing your energy to flow. Use too much at once and your canteen will be empty, use hardly any and you will yet thirst for more. Get into a comfortable position and then begin your normal breathing excersize. Focus on that feeling, for it is more than what it appears"
A normal human being would shrug off the appearance of Ki. It felt like any other emotion, but this was different. If Ethan truly felt deep within himself the Ki would be present and his aura would begin to show around him. Ethan may not have been able to see this aura as of yet, but Kit's now trained eyes would spot it instantly if it even flickered to life, and he hoped it did. Ethan had studied the energy, so he really understood the concept, now it was up to him to apply it. While Ethan was trying, Saito continued to speak in the hopes that if his first metaphor had not helped enough, his next words would bring him closer to it.
"Feel it flowing inside of you, like the very blood that pours through your veins. The rushing sound, the vibrant rattle of your chest and stomach. Imagine it igniting within you. Light the match and allow it to explode."
Putting another, this time larger, chunk of egg in his mouth, he watched to see if his brother would ignite his Ki energy. If he did, the two could begin training with an actual technique. If the boy required additional assistance, Kit would have to provide that through example. His plate of eggs had nearly finished anyway.

Ethan was trying to eat his breakfast in some modicome of peace while at the same time under the impression that Kit was going to hold the lesson afterwards and outside of the crampt confines of the kitchen, his older brother however seemed to have different plans and was making Ethan's intent to eat difficult. First he started off with conversation about the techniques he'd been developing and then went right ahead and asked the blue haired boy to stand up. 'Seriously? He wants me to do this now?' the boy grumbled in his head as he rolled his eyes at Kit's request. His brother though kept on going, shifting into lecture mode as if they were out in the training gardens. 'Wow, he really isn't going to stop is he?' the boy silently grumbled again.
"Ooookaaay." Ethan spoke aloud as he rose from his seat and stood away from it. "But if this makes a mess, you are cleaning it up and making me a new breakfast. Remember we had room when you fist did this and you put a huge hole on the floor. You got me standing right next to the table here." the boy continued, pointing out that Kit's choice to have him try out using his inner energy while surrounded by both sharp and hot objects wasn't exactly the brightest of ideas. Another rye smile crossed the boy's lips as he laid out his terms and then turned his attention to consentrating. Breathing in and out and smooth, measured breaths, Ethan's compact, muscular chest rose and fell was deliberate intent. His arms remaned at his sides and he closed his eyes and stared to picture his body as a sort of transparant image of it's self with lines of force all flowing out from a central point. That point was the solar plexus, the generation point for the body's energy supply.
As he focussed and further immagined the senario of actually being in a fight, the teen could actually start to feel that immaterial, giddy sensation, one that made him light on his feet and almost seemed to tug his forward towards his immaginary opponent. To Kit, there was not yet any physical change in the boy but if he could somehow sense Ethan's energy output, he might perceeve the slightest increase, nothing particularly notable, but sufficient to know that Ethan was starting to tickle the right nerves to trigger an outburst of his power and tap into it. The process was slow though and could be compared to a child learning about other more mature function of his body, Ethan proceeded tentatively, unsure of what he was doing. He knew he felt something different know but could not know if it was his immagination or not. THe compelling, giddy sensation was soon though very much evident and with one final inhalation and a flex of his pectoral muscles, as he felt that would aid him, the giddy sensation washed over his whole form.
On the exterior however something very peculair happened, rather then the blue glow that Kit's energy had produced, when Ethan's power manifested it's self, it had no color and yielded no light. Instead the boy's power resembled the waves of heat distortion one would observe radiating off of the surface of a hot roadway. The distortion radiated in all directions though instead of just up off of his body. The effect lasted only a moment until Ethan's energy settled and the boy stopped trying what was in fact too hard to maintain it. Once Ethan relaxed however, the distorions that covered his entire form lessened until it seemd to be nothing more then an outline of radiating heat.
"Wow.... this feels strange." he commented and finally opened his eyes to view the effects. The result though was a little disapointing however, based on the flowing sensation that now seemed to be coursing through every limb, Ethan had expected to see some sort of effect, but to him, nothing was apparent. "Aw man, really? Kit, it's not working."

Saito chuckled at the boys sudden fear for his breakfast. He had never summoned his Ki before and already expected it to explode from within him. Though Kit knew very little about the different ways that Ki manifested itself, from his own personal experience he knew the euphoria could be controlled. Taking another bite of egg he observed the boys energy rise. It had started as nothing but as a few seconds progressed the latent power locked within the boy began to swell on the outside, his energy rising to a state Kit remembered well. Just a few months ago he had been at the same level and proud of it. There was no reason not to be proud, it was no easy feat for a human being to accomplish. Ethan was still unaware that human beings were behind the curve, and Kit planned to keep it that way for as long as possible. An ignorant Ethan in his eyes was a safe one.
When the power was finally circulating it still wasn't appearing in the form of an aura. Watching the boy closely he could feel his energy, but not see it. He wondered if Ethan lacked the quantity of power necessary to emit an aura. After all, Kit had not noticed an aura until Kai arrived and helped him develope one. That had been several months ago and he had multiplied his power by ten since then. Perhaps Ethan just needed more power, or maybe his Aura simply would remain colorless. Anri's aura had been different from Kit's, as had Nyu's. There was no reason to suspect that Ethan would have any particular color. The boy however was not pleased with the results and began to complain. Kit stood, setting his chop sticks down on the plate with his remaining breakfast. Ethan was shorter than Kit, though not by much, so the two could stand facing each other and it not be too strange, his eyes only a few inches higher than his brothers.
"You rely too heavily on your perception of sight brother. You can feel it, I know you can. It is that warmth within you that stirs when you call upon it. It is the whistle that cracks against the air that you can hear when the room is silent. Use only one of your senses and you will not find what you are looking for. I imagine you cannot smell or taste the energy either, and yet it is still there"
The boy needed a moment to think his new found power through. Kit took a few steps back away from the table and onto the patterned hardwood floor that separated the Kitchen from the training area. If Ethan followed perhaps the boy would feel the energy more vibrantly, as his muscles would move with ease, and his motions would be significantly smoother. All a benefit to unlocking the energy within. Before the morning was through Saito would show his brother how to access his Focus State, and the two would be unstoppable. Kit alone in a focus state had proven a formidable opponent. He imagined that if Ethan could conquer such a technique, the two would never lose a fight. Ethan however was still learning. The focus state doubled their abilities, but even then Ethan would still be behind. He wanted to throw everything at him at once. He wanted the boy to learn all of the same spirit techniques, all of the same fighting styles, and all of the same energy attacks. But his enthusiasm would not be enough, the boy would need practice in it first.

With the heat like distortions of energy still outlining his body, Ethan didn't exactly need Kit's coaching to know that the energy was indeed flowing now, he could feel it washing through every limb of his body, coursing through his very veins. Perhaps Kit misinterpreted his disappointment in the lack of visible energy to be a misunderstanding of how it was supposed to work, Ethan however had grasped the concept readily, his reading on the subject having prepared him for the actual execution and the only reason he hadn't yet attempted it on his own was the notion that he was ready, something inadvertently placed upon him by the constant reading assignments. Still, Ethan now seemed to pulsate with energy as he stood before his older brother, even if that energy was invisible to the eye.
"Kit enough with the metaphors already." the blue haired boy replied to the blonde, rolling his eyes in the process. "I can feel it just fine. Was just hoping for some neat 'glowy' stuff like you did... Guess this is ok though, no one will be able to see me use it if I do." he continued and raised his arms looking at the faint radiations of power that were hovering just an inch off of his skin. The effect was almost mesmerizing, but not so much so that Ethan forgot why they were taking this first step, to get to the second one of course, actually utilizing the power.
"Ok, bro, what's next?" the teen asked, the slightest bit of excitement starting to creep into his voice. "Punch through stone walls? Shoot laser beams out of my eyes?" he went on with a chuckle and lowered his hand to once more regard Kit.

Though his brother couldn't make out the phenominan that was taking place, Saito certainly could. He could see the light shimmer even without a color to call its own. He could feel the vibration from his aura, and most importantly he could sense the awareness that Ethan was putting himself through. Whether or not he understood it had yet to be seen but at the very least the boy was capable of summoning his power. His next questions hit rather comically as he began recounting the powers of his favorite comic book heroes. Lasers from the eyes? Wouldn't that hurt? Well if that was what Ethan chose to do with his new found power that was fine with his older brother, however there was much still to learn before he went gallavanting off on his own to create original techniques.
"Using the power is entirely up to you Ethan. Because I focus on hand to hand combat, my first use of aggressive Ki was the attack we now know as the righteous fist. However with practice I have come to learn many different art forms. For example"
He had waited this long to show his brother his true power. What Ethan had last seen was an unintentional burst in energy, one that Saito could not control. His training over the last several months had honed these skills, and he now possessed the ability to intentionally create this energy. His own aura activated almost instantly after he finished speaking, the teal energy wrapping first around his legs and then exploding upward in a high pitched ring. He was not in his focus state, not yet, that would be signified by an increase in size as well as strength. He wouldn't need to activate this yet. Not until he was ready to show Ethan the ability and help him to learn it. He was also certain that the next technique would impress well enough. Raising his index finger towards an open window, and aiming it slightly upwards so that his next attack would fly up and out of the dojo without causing any damage he allowed the small bead of Ki to form at its tip. It was his spirit gun technique. This was now Kit's signature move. It was quick and so difficult to dodge, it was powerful and so difficult to block, and it was now a part of his nature meaning he could do it many many times.
"After much training I determined that I needed a move that could attack from a distance. Many opponents will have such abilities but few will possess an attack of such masterful artistry within the physical and spiritual realm. Take this one for example. Spirit Gun!"
With the declaration he latched onto his right wrist with his left hand, he fired the small bead which quickly turned into the size of a basketball. The teal orb was barely small enough to fit out the window and because of this actually knocked the hanging glass drop above it onto the floor. Flying swiftly into the world and away from the dojo the attack would take to the sky, and would not evaporate until it was well out of the two men's eyesight. He had shown Ethan this so that he would be able to visualize the Ki for himself. He had never physically seen an attack of that magnitude so it was very possible that he had no idea what to expect. Kit had been unable to further use his Ki until he saw Sekai use it for the first time. He turned to his brother, a proud smile on his face.
"And I have a number of other abilities, some of which put that one to shame. The question is, where will you start brother?"

Listening to the first portion of Kit's reply, Ethan cracked a grin as his older brother explained the power fist the blonde had used on him. The punch had been among the hardest he'd ever taken and although it wasn't the most pleasant experiance, he'd gladly take another if it meant figuring out how to dish out the same of his own.
"Heh heh, yeah, I remember that one." the boy chuckled, momentarily interupting Kit and then let him continue. Standing by, Ethan watched as Kit proceeded to demonstrate another techniques, this one being a projectile of blue energy that nearly destroyed the window on the way out. Needless to say, his big brother going from punching his guts out with a glowing fist to now launching bolts of energy clear out to the horizon was more then enough to impress the teenager. Ethan stared for a moment trying to assemble a witty comment, though the fact that he'd been joking about the lser eyes and now that they seemed to be within reach, derailed his normally well oiled joke machine of a brain. Finally though after Kit turned back to him and asked where he wanted to start, the boy managed to get his thoughts back into order.
"Wow... That's... Well just wow." the boy started and took a moment to think some more. "Well, if you want something that works at range, maybe I'll try for something that'll force guys out to that range. We got to work together after all big bro." Ethan continued cheerily. "Ok, so, I got this powering on thing. Going to practice more later though. But while I got it lets try just shooting something out of my hand, like an explosion or something, right out of the palm. Think that's a good start?"

Saito was pleased with Ethan's willingness to move forward. The teen always seemed rather glib when it came to training the mind, but perhaps this had been the physical manifestation he had needed to see in order to become inspired. With that in mind the elder brother took a few short strides towards Ethan, closing the gap and ensuring they were now close by each other. He could feel Ethan's energy, the heat radiated off of his skin. Though Saito was now showing an even larger power it didn't diminish the fact that Ethan too had finally reached his inner abilities. Kit wanted to take it one step further. His own energy continued to climb gradually, and as it did the man spoke.
"Basic blasts using ones Ki would be a useful start. I would like however for you to touch your maximum peek. I believe at your strongest you would match what father had been at when I fought him. If I am right, that means you too could have held your own against father had you only known how to untap that energy. I call it the focus state."
It had been Sekai that had taugh Kit how to use the focus state. This energy ability took what every human already had and enhanced it. The muscles growing larger, the hair growing erect and standing on end, and the iris of the eye changing color to match the aura that surrounded the human -in Ethan's case providing a surreal white, leaving only his pupils-. His own energy hit that doorway and burst through, now a physical wind picking up in the room, and knocking his nearly finished plate of eggs onto the floor. He hadn't intended to make a mess, but he had to show Ethan what the focus state looked like, and what it would feel like. Though he couldn't possibly feel Kit's power from within, he at least had a working idea of the ferocity it possessed. Saito explained the process, going into detail the inner workings of his mind. All of the hours he had forced Ethan to meditate in silence would finally bear fruit. If the teen had taken that portion of his training seriously, the application of it would be considerably less difficult.
"Once you feel that power, push it forward into the wall there. Pretend you are holding something heavy, like a bowling ball, and push it forward with all of your might."
Ethan had been tasked with two things, both something neither of the brothers had done prior to a few months ago. He was to use his power to enter the famed focus state, and then launch a regular Ki blast. If Ethan was successful, Kit would be more than happy to provide him the ability to use the spirit gun. Though the way Ethan spoke, he didn't want to copy his brothers techniques, he wanted to work with them.

Still holding the powered up state Kit had guided him into, Ethan listened to his older brother's thoughts as to the direction he thought the blue haired boy should take. At first it sounded like Kit was agreeing with his intentions but just as quickly as Kit had started speaking, he changed that intended direction, shifting into a lecture about a yet higher ascended state. Was there really something beyond this already advanced state? Energy was pouring out of his body in a way the boy had never experianced and yet Kit wanted him to try for more. And then as Ethan stood by, still trying to get used to his own unlocked power, Kit stepped closer to him, not uncomfortably so, but he was close and then the change occured. Kit's eyes turned a creepy white and at once waves of power stronger then Ethan's started to radiat out of the blonde and wash over Eathan's own body. Tee sensation was even stranger then feeling his own power and were he intimidated by his brother, this display of power might have been frightening. Ethan though was anything but intimidated by the blonde, true his bigger brother was stronger, but that never scared Ethan, even back when he was just a little tike in their first fight.
"This is... strange." the boy commented, holding his hand out to almost try and grasp at the energy wafting off of his older brother. Even the blonde's muscles looked bigger now. "It's amazing..." he commented further, looking over his brother's form. "And you think I can do this? Right now? I only just figured this part out." Ethan asked and held his arms out, indicating his own, invisible energy field.
No sooner though did Kit display his greater power then did he shift gears back to coaching Ethan in the proceedure for launching what the boy beleived would be an energy blast. Wow, did his blonde older brother think Ethan was that far advanced that he could make all of these steps at once and with only minimal coaching? Well if Kit had that much faith in his younger brother, then Ethan had no choice but to live up to those lofty expectations, he could never willingly let his brother down and to try anf fail would only be margenally less painfull. No he had to succede, to live up to Kit's expectations was all Ethan wanted right now, on some level the blue haired boy did idolize his older brother, and that idolization demanded he accomplish the task set to him.
"Ok." Ethan nodded and took a deep breath, rolling his shoulders. "I'll give it a shot." the boy continued and clenched his fists, closing his eyes and once again picturing himself in battle against some immaginary, featurless form. Throwing himself into the fantacy to get his adrenilen running, Ethan's muscles twitched as he threw his immaginary punches in kicks. It must have been pretty comical for Kit to stand there, watching his young brother, eyes shut, twitching and shivering as he tensed his muscles and fought to bring on that even more ascended state the blonde had demonstrated. As Ethan struggled against his immaginary foe, he could indeed feel his energy grow, ever so slowly it was growing, graually creeping to higher and higher levels of intensity. It continued to grow until at once the ascention seemed to reach a platue, an invisible barrier that kept his equally invisible energy from rising eny further. The battle raged on, his immaginary opponent getting the upper hand and as it became desperate, the barrier gave way, his energy skyrocking to an amazing new high and exploding out around him in a complete uncontrolled spike. While Kit's ascention had been controlled due to his experiance and only moderately disturbed the kitchen's furnishings, Ethan had no experiance and so the sudden burst of power flowing out of the boy threw everything loose about the kitchen and even toppled the boy's chair.
At once the boy's eyes stapped open to view the damage he'd done and reveiled not the creepy white orbs Kit posessed, but a somewhat less shocking transformation in that his pupils now mached the deep blue of his irises. Further different from Kit's transformation was that unlike the blonde, Ethan's muscles didn't grow in size, but rather grew in muscular tone, a fact that the blue haired boy would have been extatic about had he been looking in a mirror. The kitchen was a mess though, food and dishes tossed everywhere and hardly looked like the environment for such an important step in Ethan's progress. Ethan couldn't stop to admire his newest accomplishment nor comment on the mess he'd just made, there was still another step to be taken, one that would likely make the mess even worse, but that was ok, Kit would clean it up, he was responsible for it after all. That semi-mischievious thought in mind, Ethan focussed his attention once more, tensing every muscle in his body as he unclenched his right hand, turned away from Kit, lest he hit the blonde with his attempt. Not knowing the extent of his own power, he didn't know if striking Kit would seriously hurt his brother or not but didn't want to take the chance. Later, when he knew what he could do, Kit would get a face full of his new abilities, but for now, he wasn't going to chance hurting his older brother. And so with his muscles tensed and ready and seemingly boundless reserves of energy serging through his body, Ethan threw his right arm forward, palm out and with that move, forced a generous portion of his energy to follow, manifesting in a impresive explosion of power. His own enrgy being invisible by nature, the energy released would remain unseen for the split second it took to travel between his hand and the wall, at which point it exploded into a fireball equally as impressive as the burst of energy that had laid waste to the kitchen. The result was a charred hole, bored right through the gypsum board and wooden studs about twice the size of a basket ball.
"Holy hell!" the boy exclaimed and looked wide eyed back at his older brother.

Step one was to see if the boy could accomplish the task of entering his focus state. Kits own focus state was impressing him further. He had not been without his weights in the form. Now, standing in nothing but his underwear, he could feel the energy unencumbered. The power was unbelievable. He imagined that given the chance he could go toe to toe with Anri, at least until he showed off that nasty fireball again. He had little time to admire his own strength as Ethan found his bearings and exploded into a flurry of heat and energy. The changes were notable and reasonably different from what Kit had come to recognize. He did note that Sekai had grown significantly larger than Kit ever had, and so it was obvious that the focus state changed based on the physical apparatus of the fighter. Ethan's eyes were the most noticeable change. It was impossible to tell where his iris ended and pupil began. It was actually a little disturbing, though it didn't seem to have any negative impacts on the boy. His muscles had not actually grown, but his skin appeared to have tightened around them. His tonight was impressive and showed that he too was much stronger than he had been before. Saito knew now that Ethan could be taught just as he had been, and that with a little effort he could effectively rise in power just as Kit had done. He was younger, but clearly not any less capable.
"Astounding. Now onto your next challenge."
Ethan wasted no time with this, though his aura seemed to be fighting against Saito's. The teal energy wrapping around Kit was being pushed against. Although Ethan's energy did not have a distinctive color, it could still be felt, and its indention on Saito's aura due to their close proximity gave it at least some level of visibility. Finally the boy moved his hand forward just as Kit had instructed. The blast of Ki energy was hardly visible as well, and the impact it had on the kitchen wall was impressive. He probably should have explained to his brother that holding back wasn't a bad thing. Rather than launching a basic offensive Ki attack, he had used something far more powerful. Comparatively it was similar to Saito's spirit gun but only in quantity of power. The explosive technique had now ruined their wall with a decent sized hole.
"Aim the next one into the training room. Reinforced walls make for better target practice"
He said, picking up a laugh as he did. He had not expected their lesson to go so quickly, but Ethan was already picking it up without pause or frustration. Though Kit had done the same, learning his spirit gun in only a few hours, deep in the back of his mind it was becoming clear that Kit had much less respect for his brother than the boy deserved. That shell would not be cracked so easily, but Ethan's impressive form had definitely brought it to light. The elder brother shrugged it off momentarily, not wanting to dwell on it. After all Ethan was a reckless pain in the ass! It was no wonder Kit had a hard time respecting his abilities. With his feelings of guilt fading away with that flimsy justification, he gave the next command.
"Excellent form Ethan. You have been concentrating and it shows. But I cannot accurately know what you are capable of if your targets only include walls. I need for you to direct your attack at me."
The longer Kit remained in his focus state, the more the differences in his own physical manifestation became clear. His voice was much deeper, even though it had already been low to begin with. And as he spoke with confidence he wondered with Ethan would actually do it. Kit did not feel in danger. His own power was dwarfing Ethan's and unless the boy had a hidden power that Kit had never seen, he was unlikely to hurt his older brother. But Ethan didn't know that. This power was new to him, and so the extent of it needed to be seen. The next lesson was not going to be in maintaining his power, or even learning how to use it, but showing the boy that against a worthy adversary his attacks would be ineffective without more training. Essentially the goal was to inspire through either frustration or apprehension of the world around them. After all, fear had been Kit's inspiration, and surely it had worked better than anyone could have expected.

"Heh heh! You need to make up your mind Kit, you want me to hit you or the walls?" Ethan joked and flexed his arms, feeling out the changes this altered state seemed to bring about in his body. Looking down at himself Ethan could see some improved definition on his chest and abdominals and when he ran a hand up his arm, the hardness of his musculature was equally improved. As powerful at the boy felt though he could also feel Kit's energy clearly through his own envelope as well as see the diminutive indentation his own field had made in Kit's. Clearly his older brother had an advantage as far as this energy business went so Ethan, contrary to the blonde's hope, didn't expect to do much damage to his brother now. He had worried about it earlier simply because he hadn't had the time to fully observe and compare their two energy fields, having been too busy just trying to utilize his own. Now though he could tell plainly that he would have to work hard to match Kit's power, although there was still no doubt in his mind that on a purely physical level he could still hold out decently against the blonde.
"Ok, well if you want me to blast you then I think we ought to do it in the gym, the kitchen is already a mess." Ethan continued and stepped around Kit, making his way out of the kitchen and into the gym. The blue haired teen paced about half way across the expanse before turning back toward Kit and readied himself. It was a little bit of a struggle to maintain the amount of power he was putting out, especially since unlike Kit, he'd not eaten yet and now his breakfast was all over the floor. Adding to the difficulty was the fact that he'd never used this power before, so his inexperience was leading him to flex his musculature unnecessarily, further wasting energy. Still, he had plenty for the moment and once Kit was ready, Ethan would wallop him with everything he had. This time though he was going to try it a little differently. Before the blast he'd launched was little more then an unstable extrusion of his own energy field, barely controlled and totally unrefined. This time however Ethan was going to try and built up a pulse of his energy within his hand and release it in a directed fashion. His hope was to unleash a controlled explosion right from his hand rather then launching a wobbling, unstable mass of energy. Having a point blank explosive attack would definitely go a long way towards being able to match Kit's combat style with a complimentary one of his own.
Once Kit was in position and signaled his readiness, Ethan took a deep breath and tensed up even more as he started to build up a charge within his hand. The boy could feel the energy warming as it pooled in his hand, causing what Ethan only imagined would appear to be a glow similar to the one Kit had displayed the first night they spent here, in this case however the glow was invisible to the naked eye, being based in the higher ultraviolet spectrum of light. Ethan let the power build until it felt as though it might escape of it's of volition and at that moment made his move. Stepping forward, the blue haired boy closed the distance between his brother and he and thrust his open palm forward, intending to ram it strait into Kit's solar plexus, after all, Kit wanted everything he had, there wasn't any reason not to hit him in a weak spot on top of it. And so provided Kit made no evasive maneuver or blocked the thrust, he would release the pent up energy in the form of a powerful blast right against his brother's upper midsection.
