Attention recruit if you have received this notice in your personal mail box then you are assigned to report at the northern most barracks at 34:00 hours for special training under the guidance of a ranking officer. Failure to comply with such order will result in a grade three demerit resulting in punishment based on the ruling officer’s choice. Note no equipment shall been needed for this excise though weight will be excepted but not recommended. – Head office of command, sec. 4
-Time stamped 20:00
The official letter was dotted with the bold official looking black words as Anri held it in his hand reading the sentences once over again for the fifth time, even now the curiosity of what might become of this “special training” was going to drive him insane. Preached on an old stack of bricks whose craggy surface looked as though they were going too split with the Vennor’s weight any second but holding himself mostly still they had managed to keep up right for the most part as small flakes were laying at the base of the weakening chair substitute. As it was this building was one of the last barracks let over before the great reforms movement, something that people might call a classic or in this case rustic. Even as he sat in the room his eyes wandered from the three entrances that lined the walls opposite sides from one another in a triangular shape. Everywhere he look there was only old vehicle parts, boxes full of old artillery shells and piles of scrap metal that he was sure he would need a shot afterwards if him touched them. Other than himself the building was usually empty every day of the year, no one bothered to come here much seeing as this place was only good for collecting dust and scrap; though on some occasions if some beer was snuck in the base small parties would be thrown but after the last time the troops had been caught such parties came quickly to a close, after all who wanted to clean the whole base using only their tooth brushes while being strapped down with extra heavy weights… Anri liked the latter part of the idea but luckily he had not partaken in the actives that night as he had other plans… but those lead him into just as much trouble as those that had been busted at the keg fest.
Swinging his feet back and forth to find something too at least keep his mind off the boredom, the stack of bricks began to wobble unsteadily under the quicken movement, as even a few blocks began to shift and fall from the base but it seemed that no matter how much he would swing his body the tower held in its place by sheer luck or skill on Anri’s part though it didn’t even look as he noticed or cared as his eyes were focused on the clock that was pinned on the far side of the wall. Even as far away as Anri was he could see the clock in fine detail as though he was standing but a foot away from its interior gears that made a quite clicking sound. 35:00 the analog hands read off even the clocks in here seemed just as old as the rest of the building almost as time it’s self never seemed to change any. Already Anri had been waiting here for over an hour for someone to show up, coming in early as too not be late he had expected someone to be here to greet him but as of yet no one had shown up to explain just why it was he was really here in the first place. As it stood “special training” could mean anything from punishment to actual training but given his track record of mischief over his course of being at the base he didn’t hold his breath at the notion of actual training; even so given punishment was usually shown out in public so everyone could learn from the misdeeds of another so it would have been an odd place for it to happen to him.
Opening his mouth Anri began to yawn as his bellowed voice cracked across the mostly barren room, going along a length that would match too the size of a plane hangar. Bouncing the sound around the room it seemed as though the sound was coming from every which direction around him, had he been a child he might have found this too be interesting but he had long grown past such a point of innocent wonder, but that’s what the life of being in the service did to a person, not to say it sucked all the fun and life out of a person but it was pretty damn close. Trying to mask everyone’s true identity with white wash making use look all the same, act all the same even fight in similar ways, one organized synchronized unit. In the process they made everyone into the same person… though that was on the battle field, under the clothes and weapons they were still their own person but sometimes people couldn’t be one the other, the service life took them over making them completely a military lapdog… those were the ones that never left the service, going on for years and year till their death. It wasn’t the way Anri wanted to spend his life though, this wasn’t the life for him, truth be told if it wasn’t for the fact that he had to join up then he would have much rather preferred to travel… maybe after everything was said and done he would be able too.
“Well enough of this shit, over an hour and no one showed up yet, I’m out. Believe this fucking shit, bureaucratic pile of shit this is… get here at 34:00, and I’m the one to get punished if I don’t show up on time!” Anri muttered to himself as he swung his legs forced in a furry of motion as the barely standing tower of bricks finally collapsed under the Vennor’s movement as it toppled over.
Anri had around average patience level for his youth but like everyone else he had found the point where he didn’t care anymore, he had shown up, waited and no one had come to teach or whatever it was that they were really going to do here. Even if he received punishment for leaving he would take it, it wasn’t the first time he had taken it and he knew it wouldn’t be the last time either. Whatever came his way after this he didn’t care there was better things he could be doing as of now, with his weights strapped to his body training elsewhere was always a great way to burn time, if not that he could visit the nearby beach, it was but an hour walk away, even faster if he ran there. Whenever the alien was angered or just needed to relax he found comfort at sitting at the edges of the black sea, letting the cool water rush over his body as he watched the blue star hover over the edge where the sky and the waters met, that point where it was hard to tell where the ocean ended and the darkening sky began. With how little light population the nearby city put off most of the stars in the sky were completely visible to the naked eye, a clear night one might see out to the furthest planet that orbited in the system though it looked like a small white dot.
With the idea of going to the beach set into his mind Anri’s flush with anger quickly melted away, whatever it had been that he was going to learn here today no longer became of any care too him. Why waste his prefect day working inside while he could enjoy the nature that was all around them and what a perfect place to do it than the beach? Grinning at the thought Anri glanced down at the sheet of paper that he had been holding onto as he scowled and crumpled into a small ball and tossed it back over his shoulder. Taking a few steps away he heard someone clear their throat as his foot froze in mid-air causing him to swear under his breath.
“Going somewhere are we cadet?” The voice called out too him, not even needed to turn around Anri was already fully aware just who it was that was addressing him which only caused his mumbling swears to worsen.
“I didn’t catch that, could you say it again CADET!” She put emphasize on the last part knowing all too well that it made Anri’s blood boil as proof with the thick lines of steam that was pouring out his back side.
Even though his training as a cadet had long been over this particular instructor took great strides too call him one every chance that she could take, and this time was no exception. It was odd that she would call him out in such a fashion as usually it was a term used when trying to belittle Anri or make him work harder but right now it seemed as though she was just doing it too get on his nerves and it was working, it was working very well. Taking a deep breath too try and control his body temperature Anri focused his mind keeping it away from thoughts of punching the woman straight in her face until his hands were numb; turning around to face the woman he held his face calm with all the power that he could.
“No sir, I am not going anywhere I was stretching my legs as they had grown stiff waiting around for over an hour.” Anri said with some reflection of passive aggressiveness in his voice though it was clear to the woman that he was hateful for having to wait so long.
“Ah yes good that you can speak up, and here I was thinking that all you could do was grunt, looks like you’ve finally evolved past the point of needing a club too claim a mate.” She spoke her face just as calm as Anri’s but her tone was harsh as usual.
Had anyone else said that to Anri they would have needed a straw in order to eat for the next few months… but with the rank of captain that she held it was very unwise on his part to strike her, such was a crime that was punishable by death… if not worse. Swallowing his pride and locking his lips which trembled with the need to shout at her Anri held his ground the best he could trying not to let the woman get under his plates. Even though Anri held great skill at hiding his true emotions he had a long way to go before his small body gestures would be hidden from the eyes of the woman, even now she could see the tenseness of his shoulders and the small shifts of his lips though she said little about it. Unknown too Anri this was just a long term training that the captain was always doing to Anri, the young Vennor warrior had great skills but often his hardheadedness and hot temper got the best of him, if he ever lost his cool when it counted the most it would have been all over for him. Anri saw it as the woman hated him as she only ever seemed too do it towards him but in reality she was crafting him into a person that would not only be strong but one that could mask their movements and have a calm mind.
“If you don’t mind me asking just why have I been called here today, “special training” sound more like a cover up for something else than actual training.” Anri asked trying to change the subject as too just why he was here in the first place and not out doing something more productive.
“Ah that is a good question, I knew someday you would say something intelligent enough that could be considered productive to the conversation. Good job, I would give you a gold star but frankly I’m out at the moment.” She respond shifted he head slightly to the side trying to get some sort of reaction out of Anri, though the man’s face held solid like a stone doing his damnest not to let her words get to him, Anri wanted to get this over and done with as quickly as possible. Seeing that her words were not getting to him she sought to stop at least for now, once his defenses were raised it was hard to penetrate his mind even without the thick plate that covered his head.
“Very well then, business time as usual.” She cleared her throat as she would speak again once more.
“Contrary to whatever it is that you believe what might happen once you arrived this is indeed special training just not anyone can receive it as only a few with the correct power can harness the skill alone. I have deemed you ready for such a skill, though others where resistance for me to be teaching this as short of a time as you have been here.” She stated as she looked back over too Anri after her eyes had wandered across the empty room.
“Really now… well that’s a first… why is that only a few can possess this power?” Anri asked generally curious too why that was, he knew that only a certain part of the population had the ability to pull from the reserves of power that they held in their body even then should the skill not be available too all of which could control their power?
“The reason behind that is because where they can control their own inner power they do not possess a skill that few with such energy have. I believe by now you know what I am talking about correct?” She asked as she cocked her head to the side, as tall as the woman was it was strange site to see her hover over him with her neck turned at such an angle.
“Yes… I think I do.” As Anri spoke he looked down at his hand as he placed it out in front of the two of and focused his energy in the base of his palm, pooling power into his hand. Taking particles from the surrounding air around him flashes of sparks formed around his hand at the violent forces that were being applied with the technique as the very air particles around the two of them were being taken away from the compounds that made up the oxygen in the room. Even as long as Anri had the skill he still found it difficult to form the ball of power as quickly as the captains or even his bother for that fact, it was rare enough that two siblings had the same ability but Anri’s family line was rich in blood that held the gene. Taking a deep breath as more and particles began to be pulled from the air an new light and heat source would appear in the room as a small orb of heat would began to form from the coalescing energy in his hand, with every passing second the heat that it expunged would grow and grow matching the level of the brightness as the color shifted from a dull white too a burning red then a dark orange. Still not used to the draining effects of the energy based attack steam waves fluctuating off Anri’s shoulders as he had too focus all of his mind on the task at hand. Finding the orb had completely formed without the need to find it more power he took a deep breath too control his body’s heat as he looked back up towards the captain as she was stand close nearby her hands held together behind her back.
“Yes just like that, as you know not every one of our people possess such a skill which makes it very valuable too those that do, very powerful… if used in the right time and place, but the way you form it now by the time you form enough power for it you will be completely drained and knocked to the ground by then.” The woman spoke not meaning a harshness by what she said just the truth and Anri knew it as well as she did that she was correct, at this point it was more a cool bar trick than anything else as it stood. In the amount of time that it took him to form this one ball of energy his opponent would have been upon him and Anri would have be flat on the ground with a gun pointed at his head.
“As much as it pains me to say this you are right… but what does this have to do with why I’m here today? Is this what the training is about?”
“Patience cadet, in due time I will tell you.” She grinned when she said cadet once more but Anri was too enthralled in what was going on to pay any attention to the small blemish.
“In a way it does have much to do with the ability as we will be expanding on the technique and also I will be teaching another that should be much easier for you to grasp with the power you have right now but first I want you to recall the energy that you just used to form that as I can’t have you fainting here and now before the really training beginning.” She spoke as Anri nodded his head at her words, once again she was right from the sounds of it he was going to need every drop of power that he had inside his body for whatever she was going to put him through. Closing his eyes Anri took deep breath as he could feel the power surging back into his body as though he was a vehicle being fueled up with gas, as his power was quickly renewed but not nearly as strong as it had been before but enough to get him going again.
“Good, now….” She turned away taking a few steps from Anri as she spoke once more.
“Surely by this point in your life you have heard of charging your inner power correct?”
“Yes… I’ve never done it myself but I have heard of it a lot, my brother was the first one to show me it, right before he left for the service.”
“Oh now? You’re saying that he could perform a charge even before he joined?”
“Yes sir.”
“If that’s the case then you should be able to do it just as easily as he did, after all you share the same blood as he does.”
“Maybe… I’ve never tired it before, never really thought I could, he always seemed so much further ahead than me.”
“Even if that was true he could have mastered the technique back then, then surely you can now at your level of skill, but the only way you will ever know is if your give it a try. I mean if you can’t pull off this simple move then there’s really no point of you being here in the first place… maybe I should find your brother if he’s as talented as you say he is….” Her words trailed off as she pressed her fingers against her chin looking as though she had forgotten about Anri standing before her and going to into deep though. Squinting his eyes at captain Anri could feel the blood pumping through his veins at her words even as well as he tried to control his body he couldn’t help as those words had hit home and hard. As with all siblings there was a rivalry between the two of them, always trying to top the other, being the little brother as he was Anri often found that he received the short end of the stick whenever it came down to completions, after all the older one was generally stronger, and faster all around.
Turning away from the captain Anri spread his legs shoulder width apart from one another as he took a few deep breaths to try and calm his pounding head, it was amazing just how well the woman could burrow into his plates but it was his own doing, he had let his guard down and she had walked right in. Slowly his mind began to refocus, sharping back too its normal pristine self, as long as he kept his mind focused on one point and blocked her voice out then he would be alright. Feeling power coursing through his veins was a good sign already that he could harness the power much faster than before but it was always easier said than done. Blocking everything else out Anri did the best he could along the guide lines his brother had taught him though back then they did him little good, but now he would be able to put them to good use. Eyes closed with the even rhythmic breathing Anri focused solely on the flow of his own power, it drove him, gave him strength and now he was calling upon it, more than he truly had to be used at his beacon.
Like a spark of life did he picture the image in his head as his body began to pump and throb in his veins feeling the power flowing freely inside of him. Opening his eyes a grin shot across his face follow with a large yell as a flaming orb of energy appeared in his hand in a flash of light, some of which had proven earlier too take almost a minute for him to previously do, of course with such a speed came some restlessness as his breath came in heavy waves from his gaping mouth.
“Not bad for you first time, you actually managed to form an orb. Even so till still took a complete charge of yours too manifest one orb which is still poor and no doubt the power behind it is particularly weak even if a charge attack is stronger than a normal one.” The captain stated as she walked across the room leaving Anri held in his stance.
“That being said though….” She whipped back around to face him with a glowing orb in her hand, in the short few steps she had taken she had crafted the energy as if it was as easy as taking a breath.
“Let’s just see how much power you can pack behind that.” She grinned.
As much as the idea of striking the woman was appealing to Anri there was still the fact that death could possibly be on the line for attacking a superior officer, keeping him frozen in his stance. Noticing the lack of movement the woman across her arms under her bust and cocked her head at him.
“What’s wrong? Big bad Anri doesn’t want to hurt me?” She toyed asked in a mocking tone.
“It’s not that! As much as I like the hitting you I don’t much feel like being strapped to the chair and given hundreds of thousands of volts!” Anri barked at the captain.
“What are you- oh right! Of course… for the specific reasons of training its quite fine too strike me, why do you think I chose this places of all the available spots on the base? There are no prying eyes to witness what will happen, all the doors are sealed, no one is allowed in without clearance. As it stands you and I are the only two that will be inside or near this building today.”
Anri didn’t need anything other than the woman’s words to the let the attack rip forth from his hands across the room towards the woman who at this point hadn’t expected Anri to react so quickly too her words. Though the attack was quick it was no match for the speed of the captain as she whipped her own ball of fire out with devastating speed as it raced towards and smashed into Anri’s attack. With an explosive nature of the two energies combined together the structure of the building began to shutter with the intense heat and power that erupted throughout the area, the gust created by the attack was more than enough to send Anri sliding back a few feet on the concrete, being buffered by the strong energies that were released in the attack. With all the junk that had been placed around the room now flying in every which direction Anri hand to guard his vitals around his face with his armored arms as too not let anything damage himself, though he was sure after all the scrap metal that clanged into his body he was going to need a tetanus shot.
Slowly the bright intertwined flames began to die down in the center of the room as the gusts of energy began to fade leaving behind a vale of heat that clung to the room, though Vennor’s by nature could not sweat thick beads of condensation held to his plates with the vast temperature differences between his body and the room. Sensing the dramatic temperature change inside the bunker the old but yet still functing vents on the roof opened up to vent the heat that had been produced in the attack, slowly cooling the room as towers of smoke vented from the area.
Anri wasn’t surprised to see that after the destructive forces they had meshed together that the captain was still standing in the same spot she had been in before the attack, not even seeming phased or caring about what had just happened. There was a good reason she had climbed as high as she had in their military structure, even though most of the time she was playing around Anri knew she held great power… somewhere in the depths of his mind he would caught a glimmer of her power though it was only for a few quick seconds before it would waver away like a oasis that would disappear too one’s eyes in a desert.
“Hmmm… I was hoping that there would be more than just that… sad.” Her voice held a tone of disappointment, though it was more mocking him than anything else. Anri hadn’t expected anything less from her at this point in their complex relationship.
“Alright then… if you think that’s all I have then you’re sadly mistaken.” Anri growl as he began to charge his already tapped energy as it was.
“Cadet that’s enough as it is you barley have any strength, and this training isn’t-“ Her words cut off as she held a stunned look on her face as Anri’s power began to raise once more, needless to say she was intrigued that he was even standing after all the energy he had used already but on top of that he was trying once again to preform another attack. Though Anri was going too in all likely hood hurt himself she wanted to see just how far he could take it before he would fall too knees from weakness, he was strong but everyone had their breaking point.
Waves of energy flew throughout his body as Anri focused with all his might too pull another orb of power into his hands, before it had taken all of what he had to manifested one but now he was trying to do it while the gas tank was almost empty. Pain surged over his chest as his breath came in shallow waves with his vision blurring slightly making it hard to see the captain as she stood across the room, it might knock him out but he was going to show the woman just what it was that he could do… this time he would hit her, at least once and she wouldn’t see it coming. With a loud roar a surge of power would flow throughout the room from Anri knocking over trash and scrap metal that lay nearby. Before this point the captain had been intrigued by Anri’s actions but he was now pushing himself beyond the point in which he was going to cause bodily harm to himself and as her troops well-being came first she could no longer watch the event enfold before her.
“Cadet that is enough now, let’s call it a day there-“ She tried to speak before she was cut off by Anri.
“You best prepare yourself Captain! I’m not going to hold back!” Anri yelled as a shimmering ball of fire appeared in his hand, the long tongue of flames licking wildly at the raging air that swarmed around the alien.
“Cadet! This is an order! Put that-“ But once again she was cut off.
“Here it comes!” Anri shouted as he let loose the attack from his hand as it went blazing across the room towards the captain.
“Idiot.” She sighed as in an instant the similar orb of fire was produced in her hand as she lurked toward with it. Once again the two energies collided together in the center of the room with similar result that matched that of the first time. Massive heat surges and waves of gust which shook the old building once again as dust and silt blew away from the sheer force of the attack. Something was different this time around thought the woman senses sharped, unlike before there was a similar force in the room… but had she not just destroyed the attack? It was impossible with what little energy that he had left that he would have generated two of the attacks, even as it stood with the power that each of the orbs held it would have been unthinkable that he could control two at the same time. It was only when another fiery orb that appeared from the shear brightness of the previous collision did it confirm her idea though normally she would have been able to simply counter the attack the shock of surprised had caught her off guard from any way of putting up an adequate defense. With a scowl upon her face was all the woman could do as the impending attack moved in ever closer sealing her fate as it was. Another bang filled the room meshing with that of the earlier attack making the building shutter even more than it had before as metal beams that held the roof together began to fall from the ceiling, as strong and as well built as Vennor buildings were there was only so much damage they could take before the superficial effects started to have an effect.
A small flash of anger flashed into the woman’s mind at how Anri hadn’t listened too her commands but quickly it vanished with the overall impressive feelings that came over her from Anri’s will power and strength, most would not have been able to perform such a feat as weakened as he was. Though the emotion was quick to fade as her other senses began to perk up something else was off, and it was coming once again from Anri… his power level had dropped greatly though it was too be expected after releasing not two but three charged attacks towards her, if he hadn’t lost so much power she would have though his strength were an unnatural origin. With the pillars of smoke disappearing she saw that Anri had collapsed onto the ground a few feet from where she had last saw him standing, with the waves of winds that had been gusting around the room it must have pushed him back and with no strength to hold his position his limp body wouldn’t have been able to fight back.
Waving her hands back and forth across her face the captain rid her sight of the dust and smoke that filled the room as much as there was it was still easy for her too see but she hated the clutter that it had produced, it was more annoying than anything else. Usually her appearance was spick and span but now her once well pressed uniform and clean nature was coated in cinders, with trailing marks of burn fabric. Designed as well as the clothes were they were able to withstand most basic attack but what he had thrown at her was not a simple attack, a charged one if that. Whipping what was left of the long selves the captain made her way across too the limp form of Anri, her footsteps the only thing that was filling the room. Coming too his side she looked down at his still body as she shook her head with disappointment.
“Oh Anri… you fool, if it wasn’t for the fact that I’m here right now you would already be dead….” She sigh heavily as she bent over to examine the Vennor but as she did a gasp rang out her mouth as his hand snapped around the base of her ankle.
“What! How?” She stated confused, the fact that he was not past out was amazing, with most no energy left he should have been unconscious for hours.
“Hehe…. Your annoying voice woke me up.” He groaned his face buried into the hard surfaced flooring.
“I see….” If it had been any other time she might have called him out on his words but as it was she held nothing but respect for the young Vennor as of now, the fact that he was not dead and speaking was more than enough to leave her with little to say about how stupid he was.
“…as much as I hate to ask it… could you give me a hand… I don’t seem to be able to move my legs right now.” The words were not something that escaped his mouth often; asking for aid in any sense just wasn’t something he ever asked for but when he did, he truly meant it.
“And why should I do that? You got yourself into this mess, then you should be able to get yourself out of it.” She cross her arms one over the other as she glanced down at Anri.
“Ugh… just have to make everything a challenge on me don’t you? As it is if I still have more training for today then it’s in best of our interests to get back on my feet so we can both finish up and go our merry ways, I’m sure you don’t want to be stuck here all day like me.” Anri explained hoping that she would at least agree somewhat too what he had to say. Pondering what Anri had spoken the woman placed the tip of the finger on her chin as she tapped the bone plate. It was true, it looked bad on her if she did not complete his training and had to move her schedule around for the rest of the week too accommodate the cadet for this training, and as it was she only had the rest of the day for this course.
“Very well, but I will not help you up, you can do that by yourself.” She noted bending over and placed the palm of her hand against his smooth back plates.
“What are you doing?” He cough though not able to struggle against her touch.
“Hmm… you young ones have such smooth plates, I guess after having not seen any real fighting before that’s too be expected.” She ran her hand along the length of his back.
“….” Anri remained quite not sure what was going on or how to feel about it, it was not normal the two of them to ever be this close, if anyone walked in it would be hard to explain this.
“Ah here we are!” She exclaimed as her hand stopped near the lower part of his back as a wave of energy would radiate around her hand.
“Whoa! What is this?” Anri raised his voice as he felt a warmness travel into his lower back and like water it slowly crept up his spine and into the rest of his body. Anri feeling the need to get away jerked his body forward as he crawled away from the woman, though his movements stopped when he released that he could move his body.
“What the-“ Anri paused since he had just managed to move while before he was a limp as a wet noddle, even though his limbs seemed to be moving under his direct control now every muscle in his body screamed for him to stay still.
“Before you asked I gave you some of my strength but don’t be doing anything stupid with it, I gave you just enough so that you would be able to move so I wouldn’t have to hear you bitch anymore.” She exclaimed as her eyes wondered away from Anri overlooking the damage that had been done to the in closed area, as it was crates that had been laying around idly were now torn into pieces and scattered across the concrete flooring and chucks of scrap metal were partial embedded into the walls.
“That’s quite a bit of power you have stored inside your body there.”
“…did… did you just give me a complement sir?” Anri smirked towards the captain, having never taken praise from her once before.
“Don’t let it go to your head, it was foolish on you to preform that attack twice but three times? Do you have a death wish?” The captain barked at Anri as things seemed to switch back to normal rather quickly, her eyes locking with his but he held the smirk on his face even wider than before.
“What? Do you find something funny about this cadet?” She raised her voice.
“You really didn’t see it then did you?”
“See what?”
“Really! You really didn’t? Ha this is awesome!” Anri laughed as he leaned backwards onto the ground, causing a small shimmer of heat to expel from the captain’s back side with her annoyance level rising.
“I order you too-“
“Relax already, I was going to get around to it. Just enjoying the moment for the time being, enjoying the sweet feeling of seeing you clueless.” Anri laughed knowing that he was treading on thin ice but was enjoying every second of it.
“I didn’t technically make three blasts… I only made two.” Anri commented as he stretched his feet out away from his body.
“But there was three, the first two I countered but then the third came out of nowhere.”
“Yes, and no. While it was correct that you blocked the first one, you only partially blocked the second on. You see… I may not be very good with the skill as of yet but I’ve learned how to do some fancy things with it. As such… I learned how to… what’s the best way to put this…? I can spilt the attack into two, if you can understand that much.” Anri moved his eyes move to the captain who was studying him from nearby.
“Interesting, I had heard of others that were able to do that but I had not expected that from someone with your… skill set. As it stands I’m impressed that you were able to do such a thing considering just how little energy you had left at the time.”
“Well it was mostly because I’m still not very good at it, this way I might not be able to make powerful blasts but at least this way I can generate more using the same power. Still takes a drain on me, as you can clearly see.” He laughed as Anri dusted the soot off his shoulders.
“It is indeed a better way to use your limited power but I would expect that is something you would do as a last result, as you said it takes a drain on yourself. If you ever did that in a combat situation you would surely perish.”
“Of course, just seeing how well it would work on ya, little disappointed that it brunt your clothes though.”
“All in due time, all in due time, but until then this training isn’t over as of yet. This was just the first part but it’s good to see that you’re coming along well with your energy control and power but you’re a long way before I would ever allow it being used outside of training purposes.”
“Ya, ya….” Anri shrugged off her words as he pressed his hands onto the ground and forced himself up right once again, though his footing was a bit off as his body felt like it was made of a gelation substance.
Seeing that Anri was back on his own feet once again the captain decided that he was well enough to resume training once more, with his energy as low as it was though it would have been foolish on her part to push him to hard, less the training not be completed as of today. Luckily the final part was not of one that would strain his depleted energy reserves.
“Good, that was long enough of a rest now we can back to work once more.”
“Whatever you got captain.”
“Glad to hear it, now….” She turned away and looked at the far off wall which had collected much of the debris that had been flying around the room, now all piled along the edge of the base board.
“By this point and time you have been taught how to collect energy and particles in the air into the base of your hand, pooling the power until it forms into a something we can physically use to inflict damage on others. The part that you are going to focus on in the particles, feeling them in the air and using them too your advantage. You have shown that you are very capable of doing just that which is the key into what I’m about to show too you next. Keeping in mind what has already been taught too you, watch, listen, and shut up. Once it is done I will explain and show you how to do it yourself, and it’s much easier than it might look.” She ended her sentence and spun to face the far off wall.
Usually Anri would have said something along the lines of being a smart ass but this time he was actually interested in just what she was going to show him, learning a new technique in which he could put himself in front of everyone else was something he couldn’t pass over. The captain stood but a few feet away from Anri as he took notice that the gills on her neck began to move in a irregular fashion that was usually the fore sign she was going to release a puff of gas around her, something of which Anri didn’t want to be close nearby for. Taking a few steps back away the captain held out her hand and gestured that he should move closer to him instead of backing off. Unsure whether or not too move forward Anri lingered for a few seconds until his body returned to the place he had walked from, settling down he returned his eyes back onto the captain. Only taking but a few seconds for the gases to be manufactured the process was complete as she reached up to the sides of her neck as the base of her hands began to glow with a greenish tint too it. Raising his eyes questionable Anri held his tongue back as the questioned piled up inside his mouth, he was beginning to understand just what it was that she was doing but he needed to be sure, but as she had told him he kept quiet, at least for now. As energy began to pool in her hand the gills on her neck which up to this point had been closed quickly opened one by one letting the gas escape but like a magnet the particles immediately flew to her hand and remained stuck there as more and more of the material packed down on top of it. Collecting as it was she soon hand a decent sized ball of gas that was forming into her hand, not much smaller than that of a baseball in size. Holding it up and out towards Anri he was a able to get a good look at it, the swirling mesh of color moving lazily inside the orb it was contained inside of. Leaning her arm back the captain lobbed the orb of gas forward with a following of a small spark of energy behind it, looking more like a ember from a dying fire than anything else. As the orb crashed into the far wall the gas that had been contained inside the spherical energy shell burst open releasing the flammable gas into the air as the small flick of fire joined in behind it creating a massive explosion that tore chucks of the wall away.
“Hot damn… literally.” Anri nodded his head impressed at what he had just seen.
“Yes, it’s something that can provide great usage when dealing with targets that have distance on your position or are behind cover.”
“I can think of many applications for using this…. Think I could….” Anri gestured towards the far wall she had just destroyed.
“By all means I didn’t expect you just too come here today and watch some fancy tricks while you sit on your ass. Go ahead and take a stance then I’ll walk you through each step.” She gave out the order and Anri was quick to shift forward by her side as he spread his legs shoulder width apart and faced towards the wall.
“First off this attack requires very little energy on your behalf as all the power that you will be using will be to contain whatever gas you so choose to use in the palm of your hand. After that has been chosen go about creating the gas but do not let it go as of yet, hold on to it for now. Next focus on your hand just like when you created those orbs of fire, picture the same design but leave it a hollow shell. If you feel that you’re wasting too much energy it’s most likely that you are doing it wrong. Now when the orb feels as though it’s completely empty raise your hand to meet your neck and hold it there. Now just like with the previously energy attack we take particles from the air in order to generate the power behind it, do just the same thing here but at the same time start to release the gases from your neck but only from the side in which your hand is at, otherwise your losing out the destructive substance. Once there is enough of the built up gas or when you feel like you’re ready pull your arm away and the gas should kept in the orb, less you did it wrong that is.” She noted taking a few steps away from Anri.
“What you don’t think I can do it right the first time?” Anri spoke up as he saw her backing away.
“Just a precaution.”
“So that’s a no?”
“Shut up and do it already, we don’t have all day to waste talking about this.” She barked placing her hips at her sides.
“Ya, ya….” Anri shook her of as he faced the far wall, closing out all the distractions that could make him lose focus, being this was his first time ever doing this he wanted to make sure that everything went over well. Like the captain Anri didn’t much want to stay here all day working on this, though he had taken notice that she was treating him differently being that it was just the two of them he still would have preferred if he was elsewhere away from her.
Taking a deep breath the gills around his neck would begin to flap opening one after the other beginning to suck in whatever was in the air around his body, with the numerous particles of dust and iron flakes that had been tossed around during the original display of their energies there was plenty of good raw material to choose from making the goal even easy to achieve here. Though the innate ability was held by all his people it was more complex than just simply as breathing with his normal lungs to produce a gas in which to use either flammable, poisonous or acidic; each muscle in his neck had to contort a different way for each chemical compound that he was creating making it more like solving a puzzle without looking at it, trial and error was the way in which any Vennor would learn to make any of the gases in which they could produce often leading too accidents and other mishaps with those much younger than himself. Pulling and moved in the correct order would eventually lead to the creation of different types of gas though it was from mental, and muscle memory that any of them were ever learned, even doing it once did not mean that the particular Vennor would be able to do it twice or even three times. Repetitiveness was the key part of doing this and not everyone was able to master it effectively though it was tested upon greatly in the core of their military making it so that those which had mastered the skill were more likely for a promotion through the ranks, those that never fully took a grasp on the teachings rarely made it past the level of private, living their life as a lowly peon until they left the ranks. Luckily for Anri though after as much time as he had spent on learning the skill he had mastered the most basics gases making it so that he could call upon them at will taking only but a few seconds to produce a vital, stable substance without worry of back firing or worse.
With the muscles in his neck firing wild messages back and forth between his nerves and his brain the movements of the gills could been seen as the opened and closed all at varying rates, some pulling more elements inside while others vented un-needed or misplaced materials. With the process finished in a few seconds the gills on his neck would clamp shut to prevent the release of any of the gas in which he had created, even though it was tightly locked the substance would not hold its form forever as over time the compound would being to dematerialize inside his lungs and begin to converted back into whatever state it had been before, wither it was oxygen, nitrogen or even vaporized carbon, however it took many hours before the chemical would become destabilized.
“Alright… first part done… now I just need to flow the energy into my hands just like she did… hope this doesn’t tap me out completely, she did give me some of her strength but my body is still pounding like crazy. If it wasn’t for my own will power I’d probably be on my knees….” Anri thought to himself as he glanced over to the captain catching in right in the eyes as it looked as though she was watching every slight movement he made. Opening her eyes a little wider she cocked her head to one side, holding her hand up she began to tap at a small watch that lay strapped to her wrist, as if to say “Time ticking…” With a small grunt of acceptance or anger Anri swept his eyes back to the wall where he could see now since the dust had faded the steel beams that held once hiding inside the safety of the brick walls, though the rest of the building seemed to have a layer of rust that clung to everything it touched the beams themselves looked surprising new… a good test for himself once he was able to form the orb himself.
Just as he had done hundreds of times before to from his fission blasts Anri began to flow energy from his body down his arm and pooled it into his palm, though he could not see it yet he could feel the small orb as its structure began to form. This was going to be the most difficult for Anri as even now he had to force himself no to create one of the fiery death balls, destroying what he had been trying to do in the first place. Just like before with his muscle memory of his gills his body responded to forming the orb was too fill it with energy to perform a fire blast but that was not the goal of the task at hand. As the orb formed it took a few tries with every once and a while the orb would glow in the all familiar shade of red as heat began to seep forth from its center, though the shell was completely formed he did not need the heat for this, mixed with just how little power he had left the few times he had to start over became taxing on Anri, even causing him to stop for a few seconds to catch his breath which was coming in large gulps. If it had not been for the fact that he needed his gills closed to keep the formed gasses from escaping breathing in such a condition would have been easier but he could not access the extra air pumps for the time being. Bucking up and shacking off the fatigue Anri growled as he formed other orb this time his focus mixed with anger was paying off as he stopped the heated flow of power from reaching his palm, keeping the remaining energy to construct the orb as this time it held without heating up to another state.
“Good… I think… I can barely make out the outline but it looks as though its holding well and I can’t feel any heat coming out of it, it looks just as she had made it, a clear shell empty of anything.” Nodding his head Anri took his hand as shoved it up against his neck ready to start the next part.
“Remember, slowly.” The captain commented from the corner of the almost making Anri lose his concentration as he had almost forgotten that she was even there in the first place, his mind completely set on what was going inside of him rather than around him.
“Right, slowly.” He repeated as slowly one by one the gills on the right side of his neck began to open up as the muscles contracted and expanded much slower than they would have normally, pumping a thick looking almost greyish gas into the base of his hand. Just like the captain had shown the gas began to swirl in a random mixed matched pattern trying to find an escape route but it would find no haven of a passage as it was a one way ticket, once inside the gaseous substance was trapped until the orb had been shattered. The store area in his neck fully pumped of whatever had been inside his body it lay empty as Anri could no longer feel the pressure that had been built up inside of his neck, the clear sign that everything had been drained or at least most of it, even as efficient as the gills were sometimes a little left over gas would he kept held inside but nothing of which would cause any harm; natural breathing patterns from his body would eventually remove any thing that had been left over. With the gas completely taken from his gills Anri brought his hand out in front of himself letting him take a good look at just what he had created, the small swirls of almost no color drifted back in forth moving about inside the small sphere, pushing and pulling trying to find its release.
“Well?” The sudden voice of the captain made Anri flash his eyes to the side where she was standing.
“Are you just going to stand there all day and watch it?” She stated as she cocked her head to one side.
Without saying so much as a word Anri turned his head from her and back at the far wall, the scraps of brick and dry wall still lay crumbled below mixed with small cinders that still tore away at anything that would succumb to the flame. As nice as it was too look at the almost mystical color and movement of the gas that was compressed inside the ball the captain was right in the need to push him, he would have never admitted it but the young Vennor was tired. After all the energy based moves he had done in the last hour his battery was shot to hell, if it hadn’t been for the power that had been lent too him he wouldn’t even be standing on his feet as of right now, and the longer he stood here the more power he was just burning up, already it was a five mile walk back to his bunk, a walk that he wasn’t going to be looking forward too. Giving off a hefty sigh Anri lifted the orb high over his shoulder and with one last glimpse at it he launched it forward with as much strength as his body would pool together and at the state he was in it wasn’t much, but enough to cross the distinct that needed to be crossed. Unlike when the captain had done the trick earlier with a lick of fire chasing after the gas ball there was no need for Anri to do it since there was still plenty of fire trailing near the walls edge, as soon as the ball would shatter the area would burst a new into more flames.
Whipping through the air in the short distance to span the ball met its fate as the outer shell cracked against the steel bar that had once been hidden inside the protective hull of the wall, and just like that of the captain’s attack the gas that had been kept locked inside its chamber took its first chance that it could to escape, bursting forth from the confined energy sphere only to be greeted by the warmth of the fire below. Within a second of the orb breaking the buildings foundation began to shake and wail with pain as the very explosion blew a hole in the side of the building kicking up debris and dust into the sky. Over the deafening roar of the fires and collapsing roof top an alarm could be over heard from somewhere in the distance, not from the inside of where they were at but somewhere else not too far off. Though the attack had been formed on very little energy as it was the results had far out ceded anything that had might ever predicted by anyone in that room but mostly from the captain as she had taken a good jump backwards and shielding her face with the flaming chucks that went spewing out from the impact site.
“Fuck! Damn, how did he manage that?” She thought to herself, her thoughts were quickly derailed as she began to scan through the smoke and ash for any sign of Anri. In the explosion that happened she had lost sight of him trying to protect herself from any vitals being damaged, however as strong as she was it was very unlikely that would even happen to her, mostly it was a trained behavior to protect herself in the event of an explosion. Her eyes fall upon the body that lay spread out on the ground his arms flayed out by his side, looking to be unconscious.
“Anri get up, the building is going up in flames!” She yelled out across the room.
“Come on move, an arm, a leg! Something fucking move!” He yelled at himself in his mind, finding that his body would not react too any of the commands that he had given it, like his nerves had all be cut off from his brain feeling more like a rag doll than a person. Try as he might even yelling at his body to move he found no solace too be found in any of his commands.
“Fucking… I have to move. I can breathe in here but I’m not fire proof….” At his thoughts he felt something take a hold of him from the scruff of his weights, lifting his body off the ground he faced away from whoever was carrying him but without looking he already knew who it was.
“Just because you’re doing this doesn’t me I owe you one you know.” Anri spoke his words coming out much weaker than he would have thought or liked, it made him seem weak in his own eyes.
“Just shut your gullet.” She barked. This was one command Anri was actually glad to follow, there wasn’t much he wanted to say or even needed to say, in his weakened state there was no point in sounding much smaller than he was, only adding to more humiliation at this point. Once they would leave the building he knew people would have been gathered outside too see just what was going on and seeing the captain having to carry his sorry ass outside was something that he would never be able to live down. All in all his pride would be hurt much after the mockery and hate but after enough people’s heads getting bashed in they would stop but always they would whisper about him in the shadows, that was something he would never be able to stop.
-_-_- Many years later on Earth-_-_-
Hot winds blew across the dry wasteland kicking up sands and anything that wasn’t strong enough to brace its self against the buffering of the harsh gales, most travels kept away from this part of the world for good reasons. Little water meant few plants and animals, and with those two groups out of the picture there was very little for any larger type of life to live off of, all but the most endurable types of life could make a living here and even then they sought many challenges every, though water was the biggest challenge of their all. The bright sun loomed high in the sky heating the open barren field, making the ground bake and crack from the seamlessly endless power of the sun. Even as the alien sat atop a large worn craggy pillar that looked over the waste land the heat he found that the temperature was too his liking though any hotter he might have begun to head back to city to find refugee where water was something that able too ever person at every street shop. Riva shared this worldly temperature throughout its warmest region but the atmosphere was much more humid that than of this area, making rain produced almost every day of the year.
Legs crossed over one another and hands in his lap Anri was thinking back to a long time ago, even now it seemed like it was a life time ago that he had been inside that barracks with his old mentor, though at the time he hated her guts and wished to see her burn upon a sea of flames he knew just why she had done what she had too him. Everything was a test, everything was training even if it was masked with another purpose, something as simple as talking to him became something in which he derive information from. At the time neither one of the knew it but he had become the great warrior that his was now because of the teachings that she had given him though not all was her handy work alone. Perseverance and his own dirty work, hours of endless training, learning and reading had its added effect but she had been the one to push him, her constant toying and mocking any every chance she took made him work for everything, to become stronger and greater than he was back then… he had come a long way and just not physically. For all he knew there was thousands or even billions of light years that separated his self from his home from where in sat here on Earth. He wondered just what had become of his world his departure day, leaving on not so good terms he had always thought back to what his people had been up too, after all it had been thirty years since he had seen them, had they finally reached the vale and begun to explore.
Shrugging his shoulder at the thought he decided that there was no point in thinking about them anymore, the same conclusion he had come up with many times before, after all the chances that he would ever see his home once more was slim to none, as big as the galaxy, and with how may planets there are it was impossible to search each solar system even with as long as he lived for, not to mention the cost would be something that he could not even fathom. With a heavy sigh Anri pushed himself up using his flight ability Anri very easily place himself to stand atop the pillar looking over the dry sands.
“You’re skills are impressive even as they stand but you as far too much of your own energy… as I see it your skills will improve with more practice over time the skills will become far more powerful than they currently are.” The faint memory of the captains voice rang around his head, the last thing he could remember of that day, or even week, everything else seemed like e faint blur as if he was looking through a thick pane of glass. Once again just another time where he knew that his memories were shot, only partially what they once were long ago before he awoke in the hospital.
New technique mod
Fission blast split- Anri is able to split in fission blast into others, taking one and transforming it into two. The power is take directly from his own body even though the attack is not within hands reach.
Gas orb- Able to bottle his own chemical gases for use in long range attacks, similar to that of an energy based attack but once the orb is broken the gas is released.
