Unable to sleep aboard Sebastian’s ship, William figured he would try to get in some more simulated gravity training. It was amazing how high tech the room was, though he probably should not have been so surprised given the vessel’s decadence. Once the giant doors slid close behind him once more, he stepped over to the panel in the back of the circular room. In an attempt to master his technarcana powers he gripped the edge of the device. Before the ability went off as more of a reflex or instinct and never in a controllable fashion, but Willie had decided that he needed to learn to wield it. To turn it from a disadvantage to an advantage, who knows the extents of this power?
Closing his eyes he could almost feel his mind merging with the computer, racing through every byte, like synapses firing off between neurons. Willie felt his mind expand as he did so, overreaching the subconscious limitations set by his body, which mistakenly believed him to be human. Despite all he knew, it was still engrained in his thought processes. After all, how does one suddenly stop being what they have been their whole lives? How does one simply stop being human?
It was all a blur at first, not able to see it abstractedly through the billions of bytes of data surging through him. Eventually it began to overwhelm him, not surprisingly, and he had to force himself to relay a message to the computer. “Begin simulation, 15x gravity,” he projected into the control panel. Releasing the device he turned to see the room changed; to the crowded crime ridden streets of Alpha Prime. It had not pulled forth a memory as it had before, instead creating something entirely new from his mind. Looking over he saw a familiar car blaring his horn, and could even swear he saw Ninjin disappear into the sky.
Looking around he saw the giant body of Kathos lying face down in the ground in a pool of blood; lifeless. Drazi was not too far away, rendered previously unconscious by William sonic scream. Their skin had returned to its natural color. The ground and surrounding buildings were heavily damaged. It was obvious now, the simulation had picked up right after Ninjin and he defeated the shadow demon and his cronies. Willie remembered the day, as he had simply ran on and completed the delivery without any more interference, as the prince had predicted. The boy new full well events would not occur the same way within the confines of the simulation as they had that day.
“Excellent, I thought he would never leave…” a hiss came from behind William. Spinning around he found the shadow demon, though he was no longer in his giant intimidating blue gaseous form. No, now he was simply the well-dressed man whom had plagued Willie time and time again, albeit a bit disheveled. His fedora was gone, as were his sunglasses, revealing slicked back black hair and orbs of smoke in place of eyes. Just looking him in the face made him a bit queasy. “I told you I will acquire that package. I have never failed,” was followed by a sharp toothed grin.
“What a coincidence, neither have I!” without another word he leapt forward and though the weighted gladiatorial gear and increase gravity restricted him, Willie landed the first punch right to the center of the man’s temple. To his unfortunate surprise however, it seemed to have no effect, as the darkly clad being did not budge. Like a child punching a brick wall. “That was quaint. Allow me to educate you,” before William saw the first fist, four rabbit punches knocked the air out of his lungs. As a reflex he began to lean over, to clutch his chest, which the demon had been waiting for as he drove a knee into William’s face.
Taking off like a rocket into the sky William only slowed as the station’s artificial gravity took hold. At the apex of his rise, just before his inevitable descent, the well-dressed man appeared above him a flash of speed. Clutching his hands together he brought them over his head and then down upon Watson’s head in a vicious double axe handle strike. Spinning incoherently as he zipped back down, the boy crashed hard into a building, leaving a large hole at its center. “Simpleton…” he stated coldly before flying downwards where Willie’s limp body rested atop a pile of rubble. With incredible speed he struck with perfect aim, his fist causing a shockwave which left a crater and demolished the remainder of the building.
“You should have just given me what I wanted,” he added with a slight grin. However, when the smoke cleared he saw the boy looking up at him, smiling; he was transparent, the evil man’s fist having gone straight through him and into the ground. “You should suck it,” the three dimensional afterimage replied before sticking his tongue out. Looking up he saw the real Willie just in time to eat a face full of boot, sending his through the debris and skipping across the concrete like a stone over water. Now at his full power, albeit restricted by the training augmentations, he seemed an even match for the disguised demon.
“I don’t know about you, but I think afterimage me made a good point,” William said with a smile. While normally reserved and respectful, coming to terms with the actuality of simulations made him feel free, to act and say what he wanted. There were no consequences, besides quite a bit of pain. Standing up, the well-dressed man brushed dirt from his fine clothing. “Impressive, in my weakened state we seemed to be rather evenly matched. A pity, a quick kill would have kept me on schedule. You are going to cost me money, boy,” apparently losing money was not something the shadow creature could handle.
“Oh, wah,” was Willie’s only reply before loosening a volley of vanishing beams at the demon. Taking a few steps back, Watson thought he was going to attempt to deflect them, but then he simply melted into the shadows as the symmetrical crimson attacks obliterated the store behind him. William felt a momentary regret for the shopkeeper before remembering he was merely a simulation. “Death awaits you in the shadows, Mr. Watson…” came a haunting whisper from seemingly nowhere. Spinning on his heels in every direction he tried to find where the demon was hiding.
But it would be to no avail….
