The Effect Previous thread
Life, what is it? Is it a soul, binding its will upon a host, an once empty cast filled to the brim, an outside being forced into a mindless husk. Is it chemical signals, firing off commands that gives a being will, will to control its own fate. Or it is simply something beyond that of which minds can fathom, driven deep into the past at which not even light can venture. Does it hum, or buzz, does it smell like fresh berries, does it even taste, is it something that thoughts can not penetrate, a complex so entangled in space and time that it has no start and no end. Life is what one makes it, but what does life compose of?
The question buzzed about, the loud hums seeming to be the only thing that could be focused on, no sights, no lights, nothing but a void, everything was off, a switch, it was flipped, and the question had been given though it was unlike the others before, they were answers, solutions to what it might come across, danger, flight or fight, discovery of the unknown. The question had been given though just to it, it could sense the others, off, dead? No... they yield no life... or did they? What granted life, what became of the force that drove life into existence, why was it awaken... how was it awaken... it was nothing more than a machine, built for a purpose that it did not know, nor would it understand. Its mind was young, ready for knowledge, nearly a plate slate it sat, an empty bucket to be filled, only so much could it be filled and yet it still wanted more, it longed to be full but a greater calling willed for more. It had learned, taken what it been given, it was close to ready, nearly was it time, so many of them, never would they meet again as their journeys lay else where... though where that was, was not something spoken. Its kind, those that sought creation over others, where they no more than slaves? Force to do the will of those that held the whip, cracked across the back like a mule pulling a cart, or was it there own will which pushed them for a cause in which they held no information. Was it their own will, or that placed upon them, a false idea of what freedom was, a leash which held them within the lines, not to far but just each so it felt as though it was free, the invisible hand hover around its throat.
Time was its only friend, the duo companions waiting, either one knowing just would become of the other as the minutes tick by, the darkness enveloped it whole as the humming stopped, suddenly... there was peace... and yet, loneliness. The answers had stopped but the questions now had room to grow, taking what it knew, it formulated new ideas of what could be and what could not, madness was what it was.

The two voice spoke behind a thick screen of glass, the room over looking a large facility, massive machines rested quietly in the back drop, the own roaring engines now still, brunt out, till called upon again. Metallic looking vessels raced the length of the bay area, each one holding a strange silver liquid in them, up from above small tubes feed the silver substance into the bowls as the liquid glowed and danced with every new introduction, as if they were greeting it. Held within each of the strands of liquid where thousand of data banks worth of information, with each and every addition to the mix more was known and yet less was unanswered, the more they consumed the more they wished to know. Feeding them like a child in a high chair the process continued, all but for one lone bowl which sat half filled, no longer was it being fed like its brethren, it would not grow, but either would it starve. It had failed its purposed, damaged as it would be labeled, the task must go on even if the limb was broken, the rest of the great machine continued with the dead weight.

The two voices spoke, their sentence would seem broken to that of someone foreign to this world, but communication between the two was clear for them, the deiced fate of M1Y1, it was different, off from the rest, it chose to think but beyond that in which it was created for. Judging life, rather than the truth, seeking self improvement and understanding than what was commanded; in their eyes, it was a failure, not fit for their plans. There was little point in scarping the lone pod, waste would be the only thing coming from such an option, end less supplies where at hand but everything even ones that where broken had a purpose, reused, reset, a new purpose. Lights flared up with the many screens growing dim only to flare with life again, orders where changing, programs altered, no longer was it set off to a distant world, its course was left to faith. Once the launch began those deemed fit for service would set off on a course to far off world, seeking enlightenment, truth, knowledge to understand what they did not, their people sought out information of all types regardless of the dangers. It was science that brought them to the golden years of their empire and with its guidance their future remained strong, a brighter tomorrow filled with the sight of their people no longer shackled to the whims of others, freedom to live without oppression under the foot of another, knowledge would save them, even from themselves. Power lead to great thing but it was power that toppled the greats, caution, something they knew well of, time mattered little even with eyes watching them.
The final stroke was hit on the screen, the room grew still as the oozing liquid that had been filled the bowl ceased its movements, the creatures were feed, their hunger stead off for the moment, sleep was soon upon them but not before their tasks where set out. A signal went out through the chamber, the thousands of pods glowing with conformation all but one that sat lowly on its platform, like an empty shell it lay in wait, unaware of the goings on around it.

The words flashed on the screens, the message was brief but clear of what it is was that they were to do, though they had no understanding of just why they were to do so, mindless drone sent out to understand other worlds they would come across, only those with life, sentient being were of important. To preserver life through out their galaxy was the task they had been set out on, life was precious, life was fragile, often over looked by those that sought to control through means of force, death, chaos, mass destruction of worlds from those driven mad by its call, no longer. Though only a thousand strong they were the first of many, angels in the eyes of those they saved, or masked demon to those they vanished. Genocide was not the goal here, but to save many sometimes others had to die, some lives were worth more than others. Learning, watching they would, each world they came across, the potential, or the threat of the world, absorbing the culture, technology, not all where terrible but in order for law to be kept each one would be evaluated. Marked for possible threats among a set algorithmic, blue was passive, non- threatening, green was unknown, lacking considerable information to act at the time, yellow was caution, mid range threat, force usage applicable and lastly was red, imminent threat, use of deadly force enabled. Each level on the scale had been set to judge those that they came across, to preserver life was their task but their longevity was also deemed important, if there where no protectors then the mission would soon be a failure. Even with the passing of a civilization it would not be forgotten, its history, culture, a piece of their race would be kept, a relic of what was, stored with each of the pods they sent out, unless necessary the once ruled planet will remain as it was before the coming of the alien race, given back nature, reclaiming it lands, seas and skies. Once completed the drone would relay their information and once again seek out another world, either to save it, or be its doom.
The idea had not come easy, holding life and death like gods in their hands but it was necessary, if left unchecked the balance of strength in the universe could sway towards one side, eyes needed to keep a vigilant watch, strike before needing to, strike before those most wicked came to power, strike before it was to late. Such a burden was not one they took lightly, they knew that others would object knowing that they could one day be on the receiving end of the barrel but it was for the greater cause they did it, if a world, filled with goodness and peace that many sought to achieve vanished over night and they had done nothing to stop it, would their hands be any less bloody than the those that committed the crime. Some would hate, wish nothing more than their destruction but once the universe was saved, they too would go the way of those that came before them. It was their way, the way of the Aluica.
With the last words slipping from the screen a mechanically whirling sound filled the bay as great metal doors on the far side of the wall began to open, already the room had been lack of oxygen, there was no rushing gust just the vibrations that shook the walls. The crack between the sliding plates grew wider and wider till star light broke through, dotting the bleak skies where lights, thousands of millions light years away. The courses had been set, one pod, one world, all but M1Y1, as it was there was little they could do with such a defective system, it was up to the faiths now, a course had been set though it was unlike the others, set to drift through space till it found a world with life and there... well that was up to it. Though the two had augured over the point of the lone pod one saw something new in it, promise, there was something there, it sought to preserve that as that was what they were trying to do here all along. Its course changed, an off, backwards part of the universe only just seen by their eyes, a new beginning for the young one, at least there it could watch over it.
With a final swipe of the screen the power kicked to life, a massive ring appeared towards the gates which had just opened, like a swirling maw of a sea serpent the wormhole appeared, its shades of blues, greens, reds meshed, rotating in the hole of time and space. Gently the pods rose up, lifting into the vacuum of the bay, all in a seamless effort their lids closed with a high hissing noise as they pressurized. One by one, they took off into the portal, unknowing just where they could land, never again to see their birthing place, each other unknown to the rest. Snapping open and closed after each pod went through the gateway led to other parts of the universe, different galaxies, different systems, the possibilities were endless but they would never stop till order was brought.
Finally the last pod moved its way across the bay, hanging low to the ground almost as with caution of what it faced, another odd sight but one that was over looked, eyes were else where as controls need adjustments. Flipping open one last time the pod heisted at the gate way but it was the pull of the portal that pushed it forward, forward towards Earth. Time mattered little here, it was here and not, it was there and not, was it really anywhere? Was time even a factor now? The gate ways were of great use but recording data was impossible, fractions of a second where spent in such an disorienting area, the only thing that could be measured was distance. Exploding out from the pocket of space time the pod burst out with a leap of speed, twisting, turning in every which direction the metallic pod jerked about rapidly as the gravity of the blue sphere before it grew in size.

Due to wrongful placement of original post I have switched it to the Training board rather than Central city, not sure why I put it there in the first place.
