He was finally back home, it had felt like a lifetime since he had been to Earth, but in reality it hadn't been as long as he thought it was which just felt all sorts of weird. There was one thing that he had to do first before any of the other thoughts that popped into his head took over. Entering the coordinates for his father's farm, he let Marisa head that way while he dropped from the back of the ship into the fresh air of the Earth. He headed towards Central City, but took a turn on the very edges of it, to look for his friend's 'hideout'. It was hard to open the entrance to the thing without hands, but he had started to use his tail about more for the time being, even using it to reveal the keypad and enter the combination. It was a bit strange how long ago he had been here as well, it wasn't at least for a couple of years, he had kept in touch sure....but coming here had been another story. Still, he was here for a reason, a pair of reasons actually, and he hoped that his friend or rather, brother-in-law could help him out with something.
“Hey Bran, you in here man?” he called out as he entered, making sure to close the entrance once more, he remembered that the kid had a tendency to get annoyed about that. Given what he had come here for one of the things that crossed his mind was not annoying him, especially if he wanted the best possible. Waiting for a few moments he frowned a bit at not hearing an answer from him, and began to walk further into the little base that had been setup so long ago. Everything was still left running so the kid still had to be here, right? At least he hoped that he was, otherwise he just came out this way for nothing, but he doubted that was the case. Instead he walked further into the cave, keeping his footsteps cautious and on the lookout for traps because he really didn't want to get blown up or anything.
The lights were off so it was hard for him to see, but he did have another means of finding his way around this place. Sending out pulses of psychokinetic energy he was able to use his tactile feedback to make a map of sorts of this place. Not quite sonar, but it worked in its own way as well, allowing him to avoid objects while also trying to locate anything that might be off or out of place. Walking to the center of the room, he tried to find where the light switches might be given what he knew about Bran they weren't just going to be on the wall for anyone to use. It wasn't until he got to dead center of the room that the lights suddenly turned on leaving him momentarily blinded by the sudden burst of light to the eyes. That shit hurt a lot. It got worse as well as he heard the cocking of a gun in the distance, not that the gun would do anything really, but he would prefer just to not get shot all the same.
“Who are you? I know you can't be who you look like because he said he wouldn't ever come back here, and he has both arms,” the voice called. Damn, it was Bran, and he wasn't entirely wrong on all of that which he supposed was a fair thing for him to say. Conri had done a lot of dumb things over the years, but he was here now hoping to make a change of the mess he created. Turning towards the younger human, his eyes having recovered enough for him to see, he smirked and shrugged his shoulder slightly.
“Sorry, kid. I came here to apologize in person for being such an asshole years ago, and well, I also came to see if you could help me with a little problem,” he waved his nubs in the air so that Bran knew what he was referring to with that. Almost instantly the kid had dropped the weapon he was holding and ran to hug Conri, it seemed that there was a lot of hugging going around lately. He sighed softly at that, feeling bad that he had hurt the kid back then and never really did anything about it. Despite what he was feeling he shouldn't have taken any of his frustration out on his little brother-in-law and he wouldn't make excuses for his actions.
“Dude, you should have called, I was about to hit you with my new gun and trust me it would pack a punch even for someone like you. It throws your own power at you,” he said with a grin, tapping the scouter on the side of his head. With a raised eyebrow Conri smiled at him and couldn't help but feel glad that he was still in the business of inventing fun new toys. It was for that very reason that he came here, because he needed to see if the kid could do anything for him as well. Not just on a temporary basis anymore either, he was gonna start working together to help him find a new path as well. For now he would start with the more simple things that he needed, namely a pair of new arms that he could use. It was still really awkward for him to try doing things only to remember that he had no arms, so if he could at least alleviate that it would be good. Maybe someday he could get his actual arms back, but he was looking to just get something so he could use them once more.
“Yeah, I figured it was long overdue for me to come and visit, ya know? Kind of had a bit of a setting straight while I was gone,” he smirked, taking a seat on the couch nearby so that they could talk a bit more easily. They hadn't seen each other in so long that Conri took the time to talk with him about what and how he had been doing over that time. He found out that Bran was working under a corporation name to rival the Rosen Corp that had been around and even managed to take some of their customers with goods that could rival or surpass those ones. It had also been a reason for him moving into their secret base, it was made with the hard work of three people and so there would essentially be no money trail or way to track it. Especially with the modifications that had been put in place, which was interesting to learn about, and he was actually proud of how well his brother was doing.
“So, I'm guessing that another part of this trip is to see if I've got some fancy tech for you to sport in place of your classic parts?” he used a bit more of mechanic terms for the situation and the hybrid gave him a nod for the answer. Wondering if there was something in the works or if it would take some time to get put together, but it seemed he had greatly underestimated both Marisa and Bran with their plans. They had apparently talked before he had even headed back towards Earth seeing as how there was even a display case prepared for the arms that were being wheeled out to show him. He had to laugh at the level of preparation, actually quite amused to the length that had been gone to for just getting simple cybernetic arms. Standing once more, he walked over to the various pairs of arms that were setup for him to see which ones were the most appropriate. There were a lot of interesting designs to them that was for sure, it seemed like there were no spared expense for any of them. Right now he was highly impressed with the kid standing beside him, he could have never imagined looking over arms with this kind of quality craftsmanship to them. Each one was personalized to fit for Conri depending on what he wanted from them, and he could see how they could all fit for his tastes.
“Man, you really went all out here, didn't you? These look like they are on their own level of tech, but I think I know which ones I want,” he stated staring at the panel as a whole. He found a set of arms that would work the best for him and feel the most normal, at least that's what he thought, he still had to try them. Nodding to the set, Bran removed them from the case and helped Conri get them attached so that he could see how the looked and see if the felt right to him. When they were fully attached he made the motions to move his arm and watched the cybernetic one respond accordingly to his actions just as quickly if not a bit faster than his old ones. Raising an eyebrow at Bran, the young human shook his head with a smirk at Conri not really understanding what was going on there.
“Let's just say I did some things with superconductors and the like so that your brain signals actually travel into the arm and act accordingly at a rate faster than your nerves could do it,” he spoke with a bit of a smug tone proud of the work he had done. It had surprised Conri but he rather liked that as well, he tried a few basic punching motions as well to see that his arms were moving really well in time with what he wanted. That was so cool, he didn't really get all the high tech stuff surrounding it, but damn if it wasn't just all sorts of cool to have an arm that reacted like that. He was even giddy about it performing a few higher speed punches and even tricks that were meant to put a bit of stress on the wrist, and while he could tell that there was still some stress it went better than he expected. The weirdest thing was that these arms did actually make him feel whole once more, it wasn't the weight, composition of the materials used, or anything like that, but the design itself. They looked like his arms, just that they were metal instead of being flesh and bone, it was the damnedest thing that he couldn't explain.
“Man, you are some kind of super genius, ya know that? I don't know how you did it, but these feel like my own arms. It's really weird, but really damn cool too,” he grinned, still a bit overly excited about it all. It was just that he was happy again, and he was going to be able to enjoy things a lot more, plus when it came to technology he was just like a kid in a candy store. He couldn't understand everything about it but it was still some really cool stuff that could be done with it. Although the moment was over and Bran was thinking about something, he could tell and walked over to put a hand on his shoulder.
“Let's head to the room, I've gotta move on at some point, I can't keep myself stuck in the past any longer,” he smirked and walked further into the mountainside hideout, looking for a specific room that they had made for if there was ever an emergency. There was no use for the stuff that was inside of it now, and it was better to take care of that while he was here now than put it off any longer. That didn't quite stop him from getting lost a couple of times because of apparent renovating that had been done to expand the place. It took him only a couple of minutes to reorient himself though, heading to the right door this time and pausing in front of it for a moment. He just needed to prepare himself for the punch to the gut that he was about to receive, figuratively speaking anyways.
Opening the door it was the room that had been set aside for his family to try heading towards in case of an emergency. It was probably where Marisa had tried to take the kids on that night as well, but in a way there was a good bit in the fact that she didn't make it. Bran might have been pulled into the mess if she had, and he would have lost even more family than what he had already. Well, now he felt like a bit of an ass as well, both for thinking about that and for forgetting to mention to Akassa that Bran was another family member that was still alive. Although, with the recent changes to things, he wasn't sure if it was an entirely bad thing or not. Ah well, if it came up again he could probably explain things to her, if it was that big of an issue. It wasn't like he had tried to purposely not tell her about him, just that it had slipped his mind.
Clearing his thoughts of that though, he focused on the more prudent task which was clearing out the room. Getting to work on it, he slowly began to sort through the various toys, books, and other little trinkets that had belonged to his children. Sorting them into different piles of what he wanted to do with them, there was a lot of stuff to get rid of so half of it would be donated directly to different places while the other would be sold. It might have seemed cold to do that, but he was the one that knew his kids the most, they wouldn't mind it if it was used to help him. Right now he did need help for all of the plans that he wanted to get off the ground, and he would never dishonor them by selling the ones that they cherished the most. Those would be put into his room so that he would never forget about them, not that he needed help with it, but a visual reminder never hurt either.
Now it was time for the slightly more difficult part, as he began to sort through clothes, the small amount of jewelry, and some of the more personal effects of the woman that he had loved with everything he had. Stopping at a small string with their wedding rings around it, he paused for a moment before tying it into his ponytail so that it would always be with him. The rest of it wasn't anything that much could be done with other than to sell it, let others get some happiness out of it as well. There were only two more objects that he could find in the room, the first was a picture of him and his kids which he immediately put into his wallet. The other was an envelope that they had set aside for the emergency as well, it was pretty packed with some money already. Which was good, there was something that he wanted to do and he wasn't sure how he would pull it off right now.
Reaching into the envelope he pulled out about a third of what was in there and walked up to Bran, putting the money into his hands. “It's probably no where near the cost of what you spent on these arms, but I wouldn't feel right just taking them with all the work you did. So take this as payment, I know you're almost as stubborn as I am so I won't try to push the whole thing onto you, but take some of it at least.”
His brother nodded and put the money into his pocket, before the two of them hugged once more, this time with Conri being able to return it. Despite his best efforts to avoid it in the room, he couldn't help the tears that had come once he left it, it was still one of the saddest things that he had to deal with in his life. However, he needed to move forward, this was just one of the first steps towards that goal and he wouldn't look back anymore. There was too much to pay attention to in the present now, and he couldn't just let himself get sidetracked. Pulling away from Bran he placed his hand on his shoulder and nodded, he was good now and he knew what he wanted to do next. It was something that he had noticed on the way to landing, there was a power signature in the sky one that was larger than he had expected to feel on Earth. He wanted to investigate and see what it was, who knew maybe it was the open window he was looking for after the door closed.
“Hey Bran, you in here man?” he called out as he entered, making sure to close the entrance once more, he remembered that the kid had a tendency to get annoyed about that. Given what he had come here for one of the things that crossed his mind was not annoying him, especially if he wanted the best possible.
