Mastering the form, he realized, involved a lot of training. For one there was the damn emotional fluxuations he kept experiencing. Were he not in Heaven no doubt the changes within him would be more dramatic, pronounced, and perhaps violent. Such was the storm that raged within the prince, and the Super Saiyan form seemed to come from an access to that storm. Was Conri Lane too experiencing such things? Was Akassa? The thought gave the Saiyan pause for a moment. Had his sister ascended… perhaps… perhaps her actions in the moment had not been her own? The form wreaked havoc upon his emotions, he could only assume that those others that had likewise ascended were having similar problems. If not, well that led to a differently terrifying possibility altogether. What if the emotions had nothing at all to do with the form? What if it was simply him? What if there simply existed an anger within Ninjin Hattori that welled up like a storm and threatened to consume him.
Had that part of him that had once been so harsh, so rude, so cruel… had it not truly died? Perhaps that’s what this was… perhaps that side of Ninjin had merely been bottled away and the storm inside him was that threatening to break loose… It was terrifying…
… But it didn’t seem plausible. For one the surge of anger came with the Super Saiyan form. For the most part whilst not in the form he found that he was alright, happy even. Heaven had become home to him in a very short time and there was no shortage of things to do and see. Ua had spent long hours teaching Ninjin about the soul and the workings of the universe. They meditated for an equally long amount of time, the Saiyan attempting to find peace within himself and within Heaven. It was not an easy thing for the warrior to do. He was restless, and he knew that his enemy was still targeting his people, perhaps now more than every with everything they had. Still, Ua seemed to have no shortage of tales to tell around a fire, and the way he masterfully wove the tapestry of a story completely enraptured the former Saiyan prince and for brief moments took him out of his worries and let him truly enjoy Heaven, as he did when he was sparring or training with one of his new or old friends.
Yasai too had been an excellent teacher, and his stories were much more personal for the Hattori. They were both Hattori’s, and Ninjin was startled at first to find out just how similar they were. Yasai too had had many bastard brothers and sisters, though he had never been allowed to grow close with any of them. He brought up the subject little, knowing it was a sore spot for his ancestor. There was no shortage of other stories.
Training seemed constant, though the partner changed each time. There was never any shortage of training for the Saiyan no matter which form it was he chose to transform into. Vil, Ua, and Volg helped him with his Oozaru form as they could match the height. Ninjin would suppress his pl and use his weights in all of the fights save for Ua, against Ua he would only use his weights. There was no need for suppression. Sometimes even not in the Oozaru form he would clash with the giant wolf creature known as Volg, with a chilling ability to control ice. Other times he would face off in his Super Sayain form against the fire-angel Alexandra. Ua would teach him most, but also seemed to train with him the least, at least physically. Much of their time was spent meditating, with Ua telling Ninjin about the universe and stories of the heroes that filled the hall. Everything seemed interconnected the way Ua spoke of it, and Ninjin quickly grew to learn just how much it was that he didn’t truly know about the universe. With his level of power came a certain level of confidence, and though his power was much greater than his demon friends, Ua’s level of wisdom and knowledge easily surpassed Ninjin’s own.
Ua was not the only one to run into that problem. Nika tried in vain to teach Ninjin about mechanics, but the Saiyan could not wrap his head around the advanced technology she was attempting to teach him. It seemed he was cursed when it came to machinery and electronics, often times they would spark and pop without him so much as laying a finger on them. This of course would lead to an inevitable confrontation with Nika.
Yasai would train him in his own martial art, a long dead one that he insisted was passed down through the ranks of the Hattori kings. Vil too received a good amount of Ninjin’s time and attention, but there never felt like a shortage of either in Heaven. Where his little brother had gotten off to Ninjin hadn’t the foggiest, but he wasn’t worried. This was Heaven after all. What was he going to do, die? Still the former crown prince found himself wishing he got to see more of his little brother. He was the only family that Ninjin had up here in Heaven, if one didn’t count Vil and the new friends he had made.
Time seemed irrelevant. Days passed like seconds and seconds passed like hours. Quite often Ninjin found himself near-asleep under a starry lit sky and wondered what his son was seeing right now if he was looking up at the sky too. Was it night-time there? What day was it? What year? Would his son soon be joining him here as well, struck down by something in the prime of his life or perhaps in his old age?
Heaven was perfect. It was paradise. And yet still the internal storm raged and raged.
He and Ua sat cross legged facing each other, each men’s face a mask. They were meditating, and on a very important issue. Ninjin’s soul. It had been touched before, removed from its place by a witch so that he could fight a demon that had been sent after him. This was a dangerous thing, but from Ua’s inspection the witch had done the job perfectly and nothing was wrong. Still upon inspection of his soul Ua had glanced the storm, stared into its depths, and had been frightened by what he saw. The power that Ninjin had the potential to wield… did it even have a limit? The thought was terrifying for both of them, but in significantly different ways.
“Can Saiyan control it?”
They had been sitting together meditating for what seemed like hours before the elephant demon’s question broke the silence. Ninjin opened his eyes but found that Ua was still cross legged, though he levitated in the air and spun slowly like a top. Two of his arms were folded into his lap while the two others were bent out and up, each holding a sprig of incense. His eyes were closed. He needn’t elaborate on what he had meant, Ninjin knew. The problem was he didn’t know the answer. Could he control it? He had so far, but that meant nothing of the future. Simply because something had occurred once did not mean that it would do so again. Though transforming into his Super Saiyan form had happened far more than simply once. Truthfully he thought he was beginning to master the form and the power that went behind it. If there was more though… would he be able to handle that too?
“Sense debate happening now.” Ua remarked and slowly his elephantine demon form stopped spinning in the air and lowered to the ground, coming to a rest crossed legged in front of Ninjin. Ua opened one eye and the intense purple iris’ seemed to stare through Ninjin and into his soul. Ninjin nodded.
“I feel the well of potential within me. The Super Saiyan form… it feels like there may be more behind it. A part that I can’t get access to.”
Ua shrugged.
“Ninjin is first Super Saiyan Ua know. Cannot say. Only speculate.”
“There no doubt is.” Ninjin and Ua both turned as Yasai approached with Volg following behind. Both showed signs of recent sparring. Blood slowly trickled from Yasai’s nose and every so often he would wipe it away. Volg’s fur was matted with blood and cuts in various spots. Ninjin’s eyebrow raised. Had the other heroes been engaging in training sessions as well together? How foolish and self-centered he had been to think that he was the only hero training and trying to get stronger and better himself. Of course the others had been training as well. Both men nodded to the meditators.
“You are the strongest Saiyan I’ve ever met Ninjin Hattori. To think that that power was hiding in our line. The rest of your family, brothers, sisters, were they too this strong? I saw both Nasu and Akassa during our little bout there but as to their true power I could only hazard a guess. Tell me of them, and any others.” Yasai sat down next to them. Ua, with a wave of his hand, summoned a blazing bonfire in between them and then logs and blankets to sit on. The fire soon attracted others and after a while a small group had gathered. Alexandra, Nika, Vil, Kabocha and Shiitake soon joined them, as well as some faces that Ninjin wasn’t familiar with. There were thirteen in all and soon they had many merry conversations going. Ua silently summoned some libations and it didn’t take long for others to notice.
Yasai listened in silent contemplation as Ninjin told him stories of Akassa, Leke, and Nasu. Were they his only family? Who knew, his father had apparently been a very active man in his adult life, so the chance that there were others like Nasu out there were good, though who knew if they would ever know their true bloodline with Tsyuo and Natisha dead and in Hell. The part that really drew in the older Saiyan’s attention was Akassa’s rise to power as queen. They both took a moment in silence, though the sound of others conversing cheerfully could still be heard.
“That is unfortunate Ninjin. Your road, however, has not ended. Being a king was never your only destiny, it’s too limited. Yours is the power of legend! A force that could truly do some good in the world. Think of the power that Invictus had. Soon your power could pass even that. I have seen the ferocity that you have within you when you fight firsthand. Ua may tell you to be wary of the storm that you feel raging within you, but think of how you could use its power my child! Gone would be the universe where Evil could do as it likes, not without having to answer to the awesome might of Ninjin Hattori? What is a king when you are protector of the entire universe? Kings and Queens will call upon you for help, they will look to you when their own might isn’t enough.”
Yasai said the words with an inspired passion. There was no denying the potential of his words, or the fire within his eyes as he spoke them. This was something that he truly believed was possible for Ninjin. The crimson Saiyan had his doubts. To protect the entire universe? Well it certainly seemed like something that he would want to do. The reason he had given over his life had been to protect his people. The Universal Church of One could be stopped with the type of power that Yasai was suggesting. Akassa could perhaps be saved with that level of power. She could keep the throne, keep the people of New Vegeta safe. Ninjin would protect the galaxy.
And yet that thought brought forth another. What of Akassa? If he had reached this level than perhaps so too did she. Perhaps his sister had been training as much as he. Their entire lives they had been neck and neck in power. Was that still the case? Or had the fact that Akassa had risen to the level first given her some sort of advantage that he could never get past? That was, if Akassa had truly ascended to the form as she had eluded to in her message… well Ninjin had never seen the video that accompanied it. Perhaps the same status changes he had went through affected her as well. Ninjin kept telling himself that in the end none of these thoughts mattered, as he was in Heaven.
Still the way Yasai spoke it was as if he knew that Ninjin would someday return to the world of the living. How else could he be protector of the universe? If he could do so as a ghost… that would be quite something. Still he didn’t believe it to be possible. He was in Heaven and that was that. As much as he trained, as good as he got, he would forever be dead and in paradise. And really was that such a bad thing?
“Feh.” Yasai seemed to get his meaning when the former king nestled against the log he was resting on. Ninjin turned and raised an eyebrow.
“I always thought that was the problem with Heaven. Too much relaxing and paradise. You should be training. We all should be training!” The last bit he shouted, getting heated and excited about the conversation. The others looked over.
“That’s what’s wrong with this place. A war occurs, no matter how many years ago, and after a while everyone grows complacent. Everyone in Heaven should be training. For the next demon war, to go back and be the heroes they were sent here in the first place for, what have you. To come to Heaven and loaf about is a disgrace to all of the heroes of the past and all who grace that hall.!” The more he spoke the more and more angered and agitated he became. Ua stood and Yasai turned to face him.
“The little monkey speaks of things he does not understand.” The words were said as a warning. Ninjin knew that Ua was stronger than Yasai, but his great-great-great-great-grandfather had proven to be a Hattori through-and-through and was as fierce as his namesake would imply. The others grew tense as the two powers collided, not physically, but the tension was there nonetheless.
“You think just because you were present you have some better understanding of what occurred than I do?” Ua tilted his head, the answer to Yasai’s question obvious to all but the angered Saiyan.
“Is not only reason. Is strong reason. Not only.” Ua said the words and sat back down, attempting to diffuse the tension. Yasai, however, was having none of the end of the conversation. Angrily he marched over to where Ua was sitting.
“Yasai…” Ninjin began but his great-great-great-great grandfather held up a hand in his direction.
“You’re not the only one who knows how the universe works Ua. I’ve seen behind the curtain. I kn—” Ua was quick off of his log and rose to his impressive ten foot height. He dwarfed the six foot tall Saiyan. Smoke began billowing off of Ua’s back and in that smoke bolts of lightning struck and flashed. Two massive horns spiraled from his brow wrapping around his ears to make a kind of jewelry. Though he was still only ten feet tall, his muscles bulged so he was nearly as wide. This was no form that Ninjin had ever seen from the Demon before, and its power was phenomenal.
“You know nothing.” It roared at Yasai, and for a moment the Saiyan seemed taken aback, even faltering and staggering backwards slightly in the face of the new awesome power. Ua depowered and his form quickly shifted back to his regular one. Yasai’s shocked face soon soured and he turned without a word and stalked away from the camp. Ninjin’s eyes followed after him.
Something about what Yasai had just said was eating at him. What did he mean? He had seen behind the curtain? Perhaps it had just been some angered old fool’s attempt at a ground of footing against a superior opponent. Still there was something about the way he said it that made Ninjin think he would be a fool to question his grandfather’s conviction. The words had been yelled in truth. Ninjin looked over to see Ua’s staring at him. What was the demon thinking?
The Saiyan had no way of knowing, and the Elephantine demon’s face was a mask. Even despite however long it was that they had spent together, Ninjin felt as if he barely knew Ua, whereas Ua seemed to know every single detail about the Saiyan’s life. Vil no doubt had a hand in that. Still whatever else he felt towards Ua Ninjin had always felt as if he could trust him. His head turned to look in the direction that Yasai had left. His four-time great grandfather had made some interesting points. Was it truly within Ninjin’s reach to become stronger than a Super Saiyan. Time would tell.
When Ninjin looked up he was surprised to see Ua standing there, a familiar looking crystal in his hand.
“Come. We have training. Have been holding back. No longer.”
From deep within the crystal shot the form of Ua that he had just presented to the group for the first time. His power level was quite formidable, it passed even that of Ninjin in his Super Saiyan form. This was going to be interesting.
