It had been three weeks since Phrozen's last real mission, and it was beginning to wear down on him. Oh, he had his fair share of tasks - but they were all ridiculously demeaning. These menial tasks, fit for foot soldiers and the lowest rungs of the armed forces fell upon his shoulders. Infuriating. It was always something dull, something beneath him. Admittedly, guard duty was at least more interesting than the rest of his missions had been. Managing space ports, jail duty... all of it, a result of his father's dishonor. Phrozen cursed his father, his failure, his name. This was his cross to carry now, and he would work his hardest to trudge it as far as he needed to. And so Phrozen begrudgingly accepted all of the pointless, degrading tasks. Every single one of them. He completed them to the best of his ability, and then awaited more. Eventually, he would be recognized for his efforts and regain the level of respect that he felt he deserved. Just the thought of gaining that status was so very exhilarating, Phrozen caught himself daydreaming about it. He shook his head, snapping back to reality.
Phrozen was stationed as a patrolling officer, keeping the Beta Major station free of violation and criminal activity. As simple as standing around, watching passersby go in and out of the station was, Phrozen did have to admit that it was somewhat busier than he'd first expected. Dignitaries and officials weren't the only ones who would dock and leave Beta, there were plenty of smugglers, refugees, and low-lives calling the place home, and keeping the entire task force busy. A deep, throaty voice called out from being him. "He's running! We've got a runner! Phrozen!" Without breaking a sweat, the Icejin turned on his heel, lobbing a shimmering maroon Ki sphere at a skinny looking alien that was darting through the crowd behind him. Wonderful shot, he had to admit - he hit the creature squarely in the head, knocking it head-over-heels and stopping it in its tracks. The others quickly surrounded it, clutching its smoking face and curling up in pain. Phrozen scowled. Did it really expect to get by him? "Good work. Nice arm." Phrozen's gaze slid towards a muscular man, also wearing a PTO uniform. He was a tall, well-sculpted alien with deep viridian skin and long, wild black hair. He knew this man as Admiral Loff, his superior and supervisor for the duration of his stay in the port.
"It was nothing. The fool shouldn't have tried to run past security." The reply was monotone, the same cold voice that always answered in exactly the right amount of bleak mockery and dignity. A deadly combination, most might think. They would be thinking correctly. "You're right. Glad to have you here, served with your father for some time, quite a soldier. Was, that is." Phrozen narrowed his eyes at the man, who couldn't really contain a chuckle and a sly smile. "Get used to stopping runners, that's what you'll be doing for a long while. Hope that good arm of yours doesn't get tired." Turning his back to Phrozen, the man walked off, leaving him furious. Silently, Phrozen swore revenge - not just upon Loff, but every one of the damnable fools who thought they could contain him so easily. He would not be left to idle, he refused to be pushed around like that. And yet, he was smarter than to just cause an uproar. No, no for now he would obey orders like a good soldier. But he would have his revenge, one way or another. The next few hours were pointedly boring. His display had crushed any and all hopes for would-be runners and criminals, and he had taken to standing at his post like a statue, pacing sometimes but mostly keeping his eyes on the crowd. He eyed a younger woman and a small infant in her arms. She looked uncomfortable, moreso when he looked over. He stared at an elderly namekian, rugged and probably looking for a home. Was he missing an eye? Shame.
Eventually, Phrozen was shifted. The security team cycled through positions and roles through shifts. Phrozen had cargo inspection now, previously he'd had the role of reception security guard. He made his way, along with a small group of other guards, mostly cadets, to the grand docking bay. This was most likely the largest part of the main facility, and usually it was home to the private vessels of the semi-important people that frequented the port. Often, they would leave only for Alpha, but there were a fair amount of not quite as well kept ships docked. A lot of them were suspicious, but Loff didn't want them all inspected. Quite a few were labelled as clean when they were clearly sketchy - obvious bribery, at its finest. Phrozen was disgusted, but he continued on. Straying from the ordered path would bring him far too much attention, and he wanted to stay low for the time being. The group approached their first ship, a smaller craft that looked like it very recently underwent combat. Because of this, a few of the guards spent some time examining the damage to the ship. Phrozen wasn't interested in that, an boarded it himself. It truly felt cramped inside, even for him. It couldn't have held any more than perhaps three beings, and at only one room large... curious. It was a small craft, but felt noticeably smaller inside. He left, finding two waist-high, plump aliens talking with the soldiers. He interrupted.
"Is this your ship?" They turned their attention to him, nodding vigorously. "Yes yes! Our ship, yes!" From the way they talked, Phrozen noted that they must have been talking to the others to let their ship go. It sounded like they may have made progress. "I want you to remove what you have hidden in the ship, or I'll kill you." The two were paralyzed, looking between them. Some of the other soldiers, no, most of them, were also nervous. "Well?" They began to protest. "N-no! Nothing in ship! Ship clean, yes?" There was a pause. Phrozen slowly shifted his eyes between them. Then he swiftly moved forward, planting a sphere of energy into one of their chests, erupting it and taking its life. It fell face-down onto the metal floor. The other one panicked. "Last warning."
The group of soldiers formed a line, carrying boxes filled with illegal resources out of the ship, an intricate series of hidden compartments and two tinier 'rooms' fleshing out the rest of the ship. They carried the remaining alien away, hands bound, and out of the port. "Someone clean that one up, and lets move on." A familiar power level approached him from behind. What did he want now? "Impressive. Keen eye, Icer." Turning around, Phrozen stood inches from Loff, looking up at him while he stared down. "You'll make a fine, permanent addition to my force. Heh heh." Phrozen's anger was beginning to peak. The other soldiers were watching, almost forming a circle. "I am nobody's tool, to be used whenever they please." He kept himself relaxed. Loff laughed, a gritty, disgusting laugh. He looked around. "Alright, men. It looks like I need to keep this one in line. You didn't see what I'm about to do, but you will remember it, in case any of you have insubordinate thoughts." The larger man flexed, spread his legs and raised his arms in an exotic but battle-ready stance. Phrozen took two steps back, assuming his own. "I'll teach you to respect your superiors!" The green man exploded foward, faster than Phrozen had previously anticipated. He barely had time to cross his arms, stopping a mighty fist from crushing his chest but being forced backward a few feet, sliding on his toes. His arms stung a little, but he would be fine. Loff chuckled, advancing, this time met with Phrozen head on.
They clashed for quite a few moments. Phrozen was faster than Loff, giving him a slight edge. He landed a few blows - a hard punch to his gut, a hard left hook, a biting knee - but Loff was winning the fight. His blows were much harder, his advantage in experience was noticeable and he exploited all of Phrozen's weaknesses. In a single combo, a flurry of punches, he'd launched the Icejin into the ship that he just cleared out, knocking it over and further damaging its side panels. "Ha! That's enough out of you, we're done here." He adjusted his gauntlets, turning triumphantly to his troupe.
But Phrozen wasn't done yet.
His body morphed, shifted, expanded. Loff stopped, noticing that the soldiers were still staring at Phrozen. The horrible sounds of stretching flesh and bone slowly subsided and, standing where he had once fallen, was a much more menacing Phrozen. Now, he was taller than Loff. "I am not done with you, yet." Loff looked startled, and then settled upon an angry growl. He lunged at Phrozen again, but this time he was met with a solid, massive fist to his cheek. Knocked from the air, Phrozen had him sliding across the floor, back to the group of soldiers. He smirked. Loff struggled to his feet. "You will regret that! You've served your last day in my company!" Second verse, same as the first. He bolted toward Phrozen, an anger flaring in his eyes. Whipping a leg, the admiral tried to smack his shin into Phrozen's neck, but was met with nothingness as his image slowly disappeared. Dazed, he was caught off-guard with a sharp knee to his back, cracking his armor and, potentially, more. A thick tail curled around his neck, keeping him lifted off of the ground and suffocating him, somewhat. "You are no longer in charge. Consider this a demotion, but don't worry. I'll fill in for you." He tightened his tail until the man's neck snapped, and dropped his lifeless body to the floor.
The hangar was empty, save for the squad of guards that had watched, struck with both fear and awe. Phrozen looked at them, walking over and shrinking, his body reverting back to his smaller form and with a sly smile. "Dispose of him, too. It's a shame, really. Did anyone see that rogue assailant that caught him by surprise?" The group was silent. "Good. In light of recent, tragic events, I will be taking Admiral Loff's place. He'll be remembered. But not for long." Satisfied, Phrozen marched the group out of the dock, with the admiral's insignia tacked onto his own armor. What a glorious day, this turned out to be.
And now, perhaps, he could move on to more pressing matters.
