The suspense was killing him. He had experienced it once before, during a sparring match with Conri, and having now purchased his own, Frigid was ready to give it another try. He could remember the pressure, the way his bones creaked and his muscles bulged; the way he felt as he got used to it, and now he could experience it all again.
Removing a small capsule from a cloth pouch hanging from his belt, Frigid's index finger tapped the button on top, and with a flick of the wrist, sent the capsule flying into the air in front of him. As it hit the ground there was a loud hiss, and suddenly the capsule burst into a cloud of smoke.
POOF!
In seconds there was a large, semi-spherical building standing in front of the Icejin. With a smile, he stepped towards it and placed his hand on the door; hissing, the door slid open to his command, revealing what was inside. It was a round room with a panel to one side. To the untrained eye it was just a building, but to Frigid it was a doorway to power; more power than the Icejin could imagine. The door slammed shut behind him, and an automated voice greeted him through the speakers.
“Welcome to your newly purchased Gravity Chamber,” it told him, the standard female, robotic tone, “Are you the user?”
Frigid rose a brow. Did it want him to answer it? This was the first time that a building had tried to talk to him, “Yes?” His tone was quizzical, as he wondered if this was for real.
“Please state your name,” it responded, panels and buttons lighting up.
“Frigid,” He answered back.
“Hello Frigid. I am your AI, Aura. How can I be of service to you today?”
Frigid smiled, shaking his head a little, “Aura, please turn on fives-times gravity,” it felt so odd to talk to a building.
The florescent lights in the chamber dimmed and a dull buzz echoed through the chamber, “Five-times gravity activating.”
Frigid could feel his body increasing in weight; it was familiar and he embraced it warmly. His body had experienced this level of gravity before, and hopefully it would take no time to get used to it. This would only be a warm-up.
It only took a second for the lights to brighten and Aura's voice to come back over the speakers, “Gravity Stabilized.”
A smirk slid across his face as the full effects of the increased gravity kicked in. Frigid's muscles tensed up, keeping him from losing his balancing and falling. After steadying himself, the Icejin began a set of stretches. After completing them, he began to run laps around the room and with each pass by the control panel Frigid felt lighter.
As he ran, Frigid couldn't help but think about his first encounter with gravity training, the match with Conri; how hard it was to keep up with the blue-haired half-saiyan. The two were fairly even in power, and yet the gravity made the fight so one-sided. Now, that power was available to Frigid, and he was ready to tap into it.
Upon finishing one hundred laps, Frigid stopped to take a breather. After this much exposure the first time, he had been panting and exhausted; but not this time. He was calm, collective, and determined. And with a huff, he broke the silence that had set over the chamber, “Aura, is there food storage in this chamber?”
“Yes, Frigid,” the AI chimed back, “Food and water is available on command at my control panel.”
A cocky smile slid across his face once again, “Great. Lock the door and double the gravity,” Frigid's fist rose to the air and he quickly pulled it back in a fist-pump before pointing it sharply back at the control panel, “Give me one full day at ten-times!”
At first the AI said nothing, but obeyed Frigid's orders. The door loudly cracked as the lock slammed shut, and the room mirrored what it had done when the gravity was first turned on, then Aura's voice chimed back over the speakers, “Gravity Stabilized. Twenty-four hours on the clock.”
As the gravity hit, Frigid nearly missed the large digital clock that was displayed on one of the monitors on the control panel. His knees buckled, his back giving out, face connecting hard against the tile floor. Breathing sharply, he took a second to stare at the floor. This level of gravity was far more intense than the first, and even in his base form, Frigid weighed nearly a ton. To top that all off, Frigid's training weights only added to the strain his muscles were enduring.
Finally regaining control of his body, Frigid made an attempt at peeling himself off of the ground. However, after connecting with the floor two more time, the Icejin was standing. Perhaps twenty-four hours in this was for to difficult for him to handle; but the cocky smirk never faded from his face. Having felt the strain of this gravity and knowing that this was only the beginning, Frigid was ready to surpass his own limits. He had to do what he'd set out to do.
Beginning with his stretched, the Icejin did his best to take things slowly and as a result, the warm-up that had just taken minutes to compete in fives-times gravity had taken twice as long. But he endured the pain in his muscles and bones, and as his body began to adjust to the strain, he was thankful he'd done it the way he had. Once completed, Frigid began doing laps around the room once again. One hundred laps would no longer be the cakewalk it was the first time. And Frigid would do his best to push all his focus to the task at hand.
After just ten laps, the warrior's feet felt as if they were cemented to the floor. Glancing at the count-down clock as he passed it, Frigid noted he had only been under the gravity for three hours. Putting his fatigue aside as best he could, he was fueled by pure determination. He couldn't begin his actual training until his warm-up was complete, and the longer this task took, the less time he had for the real thing. Increasing his pace, Frigid's golden ki flared up like a cyclone of flames at his feet; he needed to finish this.
Twenty...
Thirty...
Forty...
Frigid was making great time now, his laps were progressively growing easier, his body very slowly adjusting to the strain as it had before.
Sixty...
Seventy...
Eighty...
Ninety...
Though his cockiness was now gone, his smile never wavered. Even as his last laps stretched out and his muscled burned and bones creaked. Passing the panel for the final time, his legs finally gave out from under him, and down he went, connecting hard against the familiar tile floor once again.
Taking a breather, Frigid made an attempt to look at the clock, but it was no good, he would need a second or two before he was able to move again.
“Status update!” Frigid muttered against the tile, hoping his AI would hear him.
“Gravity stabilized at ten-times gravity. Seventeen hours, seven minutes remaining till auto-shutoff.”
Smirking, the Icejin nodded; there was no doubt that the warm-up took much longer than he had wanted, but there was still plenty of time to get a hard session of training in. After a short rest, of course.
After sparing thirty minutes for rest, Frigid was back on his feet, and although it had taken him s few face-busting tries, he was still in relatively good shape. At this point, walking under the increased gravity was no long a difficult task, so naturally Frigid would have to make things even more difficult than before.
Throwing barrage after barrage of punches and kick at the air, the Icejin pretended to be engaged in intense combat. Lacking the equipment to actually simulate a match, he had to mix things up a bit somehow. Carefully watching each of his own movements, there were many times the warrior would lose his balance, but for the most part he was able to keep himself from falling. He was determined.
Frigid was pleased with his attacks after three hours. Next he would work on his agility and coordination. Flexing his legs and arms, Frigid bounded into the air, landing in a handstand which he would quickly rebound from, repeating the process around the circle room. Flip after flip, somersault after somersault, Frigid kept a slow pace, each of his movements intended, directed carefully. One wrong move while preforming these gymnastics might just put him out for the count.
That was something that the Icejin would do everything in his power to avoid. Imagining that he was engaged in combat with twenty fighters, Frigid darted left, then right. His left foot connected with the wall, and with a powerful kick, he was propelled into the air, head over heels in a back flip. His foot connected with the ground, missing it's target and nearly causing the Icejin to wipe out, but instinct quickly kicked in and Frigid used his tail to recover his balance before continuing his movement with a somersault followed by another flip.
Landing, Frigid sent a hard spinning back kick, his tail snapping hard in the opposite direction as he pretended to take out a group of the imaginary warriors he was fighting. Throwing his weight into his attacks and movement really put a spin on how Frigid had to adapt. With each landing, or throw of fist or foot, he would have to continuously use his momentum to follow through. This added pull to each and every move strained the white-armored Icejin more and more.
But he was glad to feel such a strain because it meant he was improving. With each hour that passed, Frigid felt as if he was growing stronger. That feeling drove the Icejin to fly through his exercises in record time. Six hours had come and gone quickly, and as the warriors stomach began to grumble, Frigid noted it might be time for a break.
Stepping up to the control panel, Frigid eyed a few of the monitors, including the countdown clock which now read eight hours and some change. Glancing over the sophisticated system, Frigid wondered where the fridge was that the AI had told him about.
"Aura, I am in need of some food and water!" Frigid told the AI, smiling lightly as she would respond back quickly.
A large panel on the wall next to the countdown clock opened, revealing what looked like a pantry stocked to last a life time. Grinning brightly, Frigid dug in, grabbing nearly everything in the fridge in a hastily feeding frenzy. His training had worked up quite the appetite, and any Saiyan would have been matched by his hunger.
Letting out a loud belch of satisfaction, Frigid stood back up and stretched, "Well, that was good enough for now. Better get back at it!" Looking at the countdown clock, Frigid noted that it now said six hours. Frigid was nearing the end of his training session, and with the realization, the determination inside him burned brighter than before.
His next exercise would combine everything he'd been doing thus far. Forming a Hell Grenade inside his hand, Frigid lobbed it towards to wall of the room. As it connected, the ball flexed, and bounded off of the wall, heading right back towards him. Readying himself, the Icejin sent a perfect right hook that connected with the grenade, sending it flying back to rebound again.
As the grenade bounced back between the walls of the chamber and Frigid's limbs, he danced around the room, flipping and spinning to avoid it if it rebounded faster than Frigid could counter it. His movements left even less room for error than they had earlier. If he hit the grenade wrong, it might detonate, so each attack had to be planned out, perfectly coordinated with his leaps and steps. He had to move fluidly and gracefully; something that was no easy feat under the gravity.
Time flew by much as it had before, and soon there were only three hours remaining on the countdown clock. Frigid was scuffed up, panting heavily, his training had been far from flawless and he'd been hit by a few of his own grenades. Adding additional ones to fight at the same time far more challenging than he'd expected. But now was time for the last part of his test against himself.
Forming a beach-ball sized Hell Grenade in his hand, Frigid lobbed it with all his strength at the wall. It connected and rebounded back towards him, but he was ready. His right fist lashing out with a golden blade. As the Death Blade connected with the ball, it sliced it in half, sending two pieces flying in the opposite direction behind the Icejin. As the two balls hit the wall, the rebounded, much like the first had, and flew back towards him.
A second blade bursting into life on Frigid's left hand, he countered the grenades with a spinning slash, slicing the grenades in half again, causing them to multiple and ricocheted off the walls once again. Soon, Frigid was dancing around a room alive with tiny blasts that only grew in numbers as they were countered.
Slicing left and right, Frigid's hands alone were not enough and a third blade formed on his tail, aiding in the process. There were too many grenades bouncing in the room to keep up with, and as they smashed into Frigid's body they would explode violently. Letting out a loud howl, Frigid fought on, his body reacting as quickly as possible in the gravity. Each dodge and slash, he felt like his limbs would fall off. And when he could no longer take it, Frigid's arms curled towards his core, and he left out another roar, his golden ki exploding in a bright, spherical cocoon around body. The tiny grenades connected at once, resulting in an explosion that would have leveled a normal building.
But as the lights and dust cleared, Frigid was left standing in his own shield. Slowly fizzling out around him, Frigid looked up for the countdown clock. He had little energy left, his body felt like it was broken. There was nothing left for him to put into his training.
It even took his eyes some time to begin to read the numbers on the clock. Squinting at them, the numbers looked so foreign and Frigid could not make sense of them, "Aura!" he shouted, voice horse from exhaustion, "Status update!"
This time it took the AI some time to respond, but after a few seconds of silence, her voice rang out over the room, "Gravity stabilized at ten-times. Five seconds remaining until countdown complete. System responding accordingly."
Beaming brightly, Frigid stepped up to the door and waited for the system to complete it's cycle. He'd done it; he had spent a full twenty-four hours inside a chamber with ten-times gravity. This would be how Frigid would train in his chamber. One day at a time until he could no longer increase the gravity. Until he was powerful enough to withstand anything the chamber, or anyone would throw at him.
The room's lighting dimmed, and a familiar hum buzzed through the room. Frigid could feel the weight on his shoulders being lifted, and in just a few seconds, the Icejin felt as if he weighed nothing at all. As the lighting returned to normal, the door unlocked loudly and flew open, revealing the bright afternoon sun the shone outside. A laugh left the Icejin as he exited the chamber, his index finger gently tapping the button to change the chamber back into a capsule.
Picking the capsule off the ground, Frigid placed it back into it's sack that hung from his belt. Looking high into the sky, Frigid wondered just how much he'd grown from his little training session; and though he was no where near full power, he could think of only one way to test it.
His legs flexed, and in a golden explosion the Icejin took off into the air, the ground beneath his feet cratering. Even in a weakened state, his power was much greater than it had been before the training session. It seemed all the pain and strain he had indured weren't for nothing after all. And as Frigid soared through the sky on the way back towards his apartment, pondered just what the future held for him next.
