Jenn felt as if a heavy weight was lifted off her shoulders as she saw the Lookout coming into view, it had been nearly a year since she had departed from the Lookout on Astos' behest in order to provide aid to the people of Earth, something was terribly wrong with the planet, Astos theorized it to be the work of a Demon of some sort due to the incredibly high levels of uneasiness he was feeling and his inability to pinpoint the exact source of the unease. The climate all around the planet was shifting in unpredictable and dangerous ways and while to an extent the people were capable of standing against the actual physical dangers presented by sudden tremors and storms and were even adapting to some extent to the quickly shifting temperatures there was one thing that they were not able to easily withstand.
Starvation… It had been months since this whole thing had begun and due to the rapid shifting and sudden disasters crops of all sorts were unable to be grown properly nothing the people of Earth did allowed their crops to survive not long into the crops lifespan they would be met with sudden cold drafts and tremors that would destroy fields, all over the planet this was occurring. Hunting was likewise becoming more and more difficult as the animals moved further and further from their normal habitats and as the people of Earth leaned more heavily upon meat for sustenance what few animals remained dwindled further under the burden of sustaining the Earths people.
After eight months of trying simply to find the source of the strange weather Astos finally made a request of Jenn, to go to the people of Earth and help them while he devised a new plan of action. Jenn had initially been quite uneasy with the idea, she had warmed up to humanity to some extent between Seikatsu and Astos she knew that not all of humanity was lost but experience told her that the majority was not to be trusted. But a part of Jenn WANTED to be proven wrong, to find that perhaps if not presented with the vast power of wishes from a Genie then perhaps the people of Earth would prove more tolerable, she could take on a new form thanks to Astos' training and even if people MIGHT have recognized Mahajenn the 'Dark Genie' they would certainly not recognize the Human form that she had created.
After a bit of discussion on exactly HOW she would go about aiding the people of Earth Jenn had set off on her journey with Astos telling her that he would send a call to her when he finally devised a proper plan to deal with the situation in a more permanent sense, taking on her human guise Jenn set off to return to the lands below the Lookout for the first time since her training with Astos, this time however seeking out direct interaction with the people of Earth. The basics of what she would do to aid the Earth would be to use her significant strength and magical talents to aid primarily the various larger communities and of course any of the smaller communities that she encountered. Her means of doing so were by conjuring and supplies to aid in repairing and fortifying buildings against the ravages of the storms and tremors and occasionally when things became dire conjuring food to give to the people if Jenn the energy to do so.
Jenn found her task surprisingly easy, occasionally the people of Earth would be wary about allowing another new person into community’s already crumbling under the pressure of the situation but a few quick flashes of her mystical talents more often than not had them scrambling for her aid, she quickly found however that revealing her ability to conjure food was NOT a good idea, the people were quite desperate and were quick to anger when she would not conjure any more for them. Jenn however found herself having a difficult time staying angry over these situation, even if they were demanding her to use her powers for them it was not necessarily out of greed, they were desperate, starving people with little other hope. It was still quite frustrating of course but she could see why they did what they did, it was nothing at all like the greedy vile people who had used her power for their own gains, many of these people were trying to feed families, children.
After the first few problematic situations Jenn stopped making a show of her magical abilities, made a few adjustments to her human form and took up the façade of being a traveling merchant and usually a hunter, few people cared enough to doubt that her human form was certainly not one of a hunter as capable as Jenn presented herself as Jenn was bringing them enough food that with some rationing they could get back on their feet to some extent, the people were likewise willing to not question Jenn’s disinterest in accepting money, some sought to pay her regardless but ultimately Jenn simply waved it away and told them that all she needed was for them to provide her with somewhere comfortable to stay for the night, she could have very well created her own personal space to rest but in doing so she would have both made herself more suspicious AND unnecessarily drained her energy, much of which went into conjuring as many supplies and food as she could. It was only when a community seemed stable or began asking too many questions about HOW she did what she did that Jenn would move on.
“How close are we Jenn” Called out a voice that was now quite familiar to Jenn, a little stray she had somehow picked up in West Town, one of the last community’s that she had set up ‘shop’ in. Young Vitam had snuck into her caravan while she had been conjuring the next day’s supplies and had been astounded by what she could do, of course Jenn couldn’t have the little boy going around telling everyone and thus she needed to explain the situation to him, that if people knew that she was simply making the things they needed out of energy they would expect too much and inevitably there would be problems. The boy had been surprisingly understanding for one so young and had agreed not to tell, if only on one condition. That he could join her and help her, when questioned on what his parents would think about him running off Vitam explained that he was an orphan his parents having passed two years ago his mother from one of the tremors and his father having fallen ill not long after. Jenn couldn’t bring herself to deny the child and decided to let him tag along until she could find somewhere better for him to stay.
Sadly ‘somewhere better’ had not been an easy find and before Jenn could find somewhere for Vitam she had received her message from Astos calling her back to the Lookout. She couldn’t very well abandon Vitam in North Town, especially as they had come up with the cover of her being his elder sister. Thus Jenn had needed to explain MORE to Vitam, she had originally only explained that she was traveling the world to help it’s people with her power and a vague bit on why she did it in the way she did, now she needed to explain that it was at the behest of Earths Guardian and THEN she had needed to explain to the boy that she wasn’t even a Human or Animalfolk.
“Yes Vitam, it’s the large white structure floating in the sky, we’ll be there in a few minutes if I push it.” Jenn said as she felt Vitam’s tiny form readjust itself on her back as he clearly tried to get a better look ahead. “I can see it! How does it stay up there like that.” Vitam said utterly in awe of the sight that slowly became more and more clear as they approached. “Magic.” Jenn said suppressing a laugh as she heard a groan of frustration from her young companion “That’s how you explain EVERYTHING!” Vitam said with frustration eliciting a brief chuckle from Jenn. “It's hardly my fault, the answer is certainly true.” Jenn said with a roll of the eyes and a chuckle, she had picked up enough speed that they were coming in for a landing now and as they finally found themselves floating above the Lookout’s courtyard Jenn’s lower half reformed from the mist as she touched down. “Here we are Vitam. The Lookout.” Jenn said as a real smile spreading across her face as she took in the familiar sights. It was nice to be back, she’d missed it here even if her time on Earth had actually been mostly enjoyable if a bit dreary due to the unpleasantness of the situation below. “Its amaaaaazing” Vitam said with a look of utter awe as he slid down from Jenn’s back but sticking close to her regardless he’d learned rather quickly that next to Jenn was the safest place to be.
“I suppose it is, let’s go find Astos” Jenn said ruffling Vitams already messy brown hair drawing the boy out of his awestruck state and back to somewhat normalcy as he swatted at her hand earning a laugh from Jenn as they proceeded from the courtyard towards the Temple, before they even reached it Jenn could feel Astos making its way towards them from inside and sure enough through the front doors stepped Astos looking quite a bit more weary than she had left him and significantly less tidy “JENN! It’s so good to have you back... And you’re not alone?” Astos looked from Jenn to Vitam with a look of utter confusion, surely he hadn’t gone mad and was imagining small children accompanying his friend? Jenn smirked and nodded “This is Vitam, he’s been traveling with me for nearly a month now because he’s a nosy little thing. Vitam say hello this is Astos, Earths Guardian.” Jenn said placing her palm on the young boys back and directing him to step forward a bit. “Hello mister Astos.” Vitam said giving a sort of awkward half bow since he was fairly certain that ‘Guardian of Earth’ was the sort of title that meant you should bow. “Oh no need for that” Astos said rubbing the back of his head with a chuckle “It is a pleasure to meet you Vitam, welcome to the Lookout. As much as I would enjoy getting to know you I believe Jenn and I have a lot to discuss.” Astos said looking to Jenn who nodded. “Vitam you go play in the courtyard and keep away from the edge.” Jenn said fixing Vitam with a ‘and I mean it’ look causing the young boy to roll his eyes in frustration before heading off to check out the small garden’s that stood before the temple. With Vitam occupied Astos lead Jenn into the temple.
“How have you been? I know you were not eager to directly aid the people, I hope everything has gone well.” Astos asked wanting to make sure that he had not made a mistake sending Jenn to aid his people. “No everything went fairly well, It was… strange to see another side of the people of Earth, they really aren’t all as bad as I once believed. Perhaps it’s because of your and Seikatsu’s guidance as Guardians. I ran into a few bumps but learned quickly how to make things work.” Jenn said with a nod easing Astos’ worries significantly. “I actually wish I could have done more, I certainly made a bit of an impact and improved things to a certain extent but from what I heard even after stabilizing some of the community’s eventually things just fell back to ruin again, perhaps slightly less so but still nowhere near ideal or even near what I left them at. “ Jenn said with a sigh of frustration Astos nodded solemnly “You’ve done a lot for them and with any luck we’ll be able to get things back in order soon. I’ve devised a new spell, It took bulk of your time away for me to properly attune myself in order to even begin working on it but I recently completed it. The spell will allow us to find the source of this chaos, find the being responsible. I’m more certain now than ever before that this was caused by some form of Demonic entity. Whenever I would begin to initiate the spell I felt a number of similar signs to what my father described being attributed to the presence of a true demonic entity.” Astos said with a firm nod.
“If it is a Demon then we’ll find it and I’ll take it down. No offense Astos, you’re certainly strong but I’ve encountered Demons before and there a bit more in my league then yours.” Jenn said earning a sigh and a nod from Astos “Perhaps it’s for the best; I can keep the spell active on the off chance it attempts to flee.” Astos said while he wanted to take part in defeating the demon that had plagued his planet for so long he knew better, Jenn was powerful, enough so that she would have little difficulty dealing with him if pushed to do so for some reason if there few training sessions were any indication a Demon of her caliber would be able to dispatch him easily and that would leave the Earth without it’s Guardian and send Jenn back into her ring with nobody to release her. Well... Perhaps not nobody, Vitam would certainly remain here on the Lookout while they sought the Demon but regardless it would be bad if he died and his presence in the battle was likely unnecessary he was more than willing to put his pride aside for the betterment of his planet.
“Once the Demon has been dealt with I have an idea of how we can get the Earth back to normal, it will however require the use of one of your wishes.” Astos said he knew Jenn’s wishes were a touchy subject but he was hoping that she would see the merit in his goal for what he sought to achieve with the wish. “That’s actually not particularly surprising to be honest. Though I don’t quite think even I could set everything right, most of the damage was done over the original damage was done voer the course of months and now it’s had nearly two years’ worth of time to increase, I’ve told you before Astos even I have limits.” Jenn said surprising Astos slightly with how unfazed she was by him asking for the use of a wish, technically he was in no way required to seek her approval but Jenn always spoke so negatively of her experiences granting wishes for all but Seikatsu. “True but its worth a try and if we CANT accomplish it b simply wishing away the damage to the earth then I have a backup plan.” Astos said with a grin, he’d already accounted for the possibility of his intended wish not quite being possible due to the upper limit on Jenn’s wish granting power. “Alright then, let’s go take down a Demon and save the world.” Jenn said with a vicious smirk, it had been a LONG time since she’d entered actual combat; she kept herself in relatively fit combat shape on the vague off chance and due to the simple face of needing SOMETHING to do when she was bored other than training her various techniques. “I’ll tell Vitam what we’re going to do and show him where to find food, and then we can head off alright?” Jenn said receiving a nod from Astos “That work’s I’ll gather what I need for the spell.” Astos said and with the the dup split off, Astos heading deeper into the Temple and Jenn returning to the Courtyard.
