Shame filled his veins as the grey skinned Vannor walked through the empty streets, void of anyone else this late in the Rivan day. Already the shimmer blue giant of a sun was cresting over the city buildings, casting deep shadows over the urban environment. Mind bogged down in deep thought his eyes were cast at the ground, kicking the small pebbles that litter the ground, the slow walk was the only thing keeping him from the inevitable. Discharged, what a disgrace to his kind. Every Vannor had to serve for their country, their planet, their race to up hold the honor and disciple that had been embedded over thousands of years of imperialism. At a ripe young age they were recruited, forced to work, train and bleed for their kind, making them stronger as a race.
Anri had always had issues with taking orders from his superiors, often leading to harsh disciple on his behalf. Over the course of many years he never changed his way of thinking no matter how much they tried to beat the discipline into his body or his mind. Eventually it became too much and they casted him from the service, a dishonorable discharge something no Vannor ever whatever to have on their conscience. It was just who he was though, he saw things others didn’t blinded by the law and order that society had tried to shove down their throats and into their minds. A rebel in the eyes of leaders and an outcast too those that surrounded him, it was better that way. Rather than working with others Anri would venture off to find is own way, a better way, people made him slow, they made him weak he was better without them at his side.
Going up the steeps too his house he slumped his way up the stair case, the light of the sun casting against his rough back plating. Sighing he reached for the knob and twisted it but found that it would not budge. Giving it another tug harder this time it did not budge an inch.
“Open up, it’s me.” His deep voice called out at the wooden frame.
“You are no longer welcome in his house or this family, now get out. I don’t care where you go, or how you get there, just go.” A cold voice called out from the other side.
“Father….” Anri’s voice faded as he turned away and marched down the steps towards the street, he was no longer wanted. Not by the military, not by society, not by his family, an outcast. He had seen them wandering the streets before the down beaten, low lifes of his world, begging for scrap; those that didn’t kill themselves at least. There was nothing left for him here anymore, not his city, not this planet. He was going to survive he would have to find his answer else were. Taking back to the streets he walked down the beaten path, he knew where he would have to go, it wasn’t going to be easy but then again where would the fun be if it wasn’t?
Bone cracked as Anri’s balled up fist smashed into another chest, though his race was well padded with thick plates of armor it was still possible too cause some damage. The guard went flying back into the wall smashing against its hard surface, creating a person size indention in its surface. Groaning in pain he fell to the ground, holding his chest where Anri’s fist had made contact.
“You know you’re never going to make it out of here alive!” The Vannor croaked out through waves of pain.
“Either way I was a dead man walking, at least now I have a chance.” Anri said spitting on the fallen victim. Reaching down he pulled out a yellow card from the guard’s pocket, not much larger than that of a credit card.
“Thanks for the gift, you have been very helpful.” Anri smirked, walking over the fallen Vannor.
Reaching the nearby door he slipped the yellow card into a slot as the door began to work it over, scanning it for the correct data. From over his shoulder he could hear more people heading into the room, already the sounds of guns were being loaded and cocked. Turning around he could see a dozen armed guards all who were pointing their rifles straight at him, sleek black barrels staring him down. In a quick sweep of his arm he pointed it at the armed guards sending a flaming blast of heat at them, failing from pain they dropped their weapons. Already he could smell the brunt flesh on the air just as the door opened, stepping backwards he walked into the hangar watching the burned troops squirm on the floor.
The hangar was full of craft of many shapes and size, anything from transport vehicles to military attack drones. Nothing he hadn’t used before in the field, he was quite adapt in using any sort of vehicle he could get his hands on to. However he was going to need something a bit more powerful for what he had in mind, something that could punch through the sky and beyond into the bleak void of space. Most people didn’t believe there was other life out there in the stars but Anri knew otherwise, seeking around and bending the rules he knew more than others did.
Heading over to a command console he began to fiddle with the controls pressing the many buttons until the room began to vibrate. Looking back over his shoulder the floor opened up revealing a cone of a ship as it began to rise out from the steel floor, extending high into the opening ceiling. A rocket, space ship to take him to the stars and beyond, the metallic frame glissend in the lighting of the hangar, as it rose higher into the night sky. Already he could hear the sirens blaring off outside, no doubt the whole base knew what he was doing at this point. Anri stood there and watch the ship as it continued to raise out of the ground, his ticket off of this world, a world that had abandoned him, so he was going to do the same.
Running up to the raising lift he took a grab of it as it pull him off the ground and towards the ceiling, climbing the rest of the way up he rolled on the platform that the rocket rested on. It was much larger now that he was up close to its metal frame, he could make out it’s many different inter locking parts, bolts, screws, and welding mark. It was quite a piece of engineering, they had obviously spent many months crafting it and millions of dollars; too bad a lowly solider was about to steal it from under their nose.
Reaching the cockpit he sat down in the leathery chair, no expense was spared in its making but he wondered if they might have over done it with interior decorating. Even though he had flow aircraft and driven tanks this was something that was way beyond his pay grade, hundreds of flashing buttons and knobs; it was more than just overwhelm but he had been trained to work well under pressure. It was funny in a way the military had given him the skills to steal their own crafts from them, it made him smirk as he worked over the controls getting a feeling for them. Hitting the last few buttons the ship shook to life as the engines screamed into existence, sending fire slamming into the concrete below, burning it with the orange licking flames.
Even though he knew they would do almost anything to stop him they would never damage such a high price piece of technology, such as this rocket, his trump card; at this point it was the only thing keeping him alive. As the ship took off from the ground plumes of grey smoke exploded out from the base of the rocket sending it high into sky. The G forces pressed down into his chest as he sunk back into the leathery chair, he could barely move is body as the ship ripped into the night sky. Only able to watch he saw the lights from the planet being to fade and the universe around him grew larger, the bright starts twinkling in the black void.
As the pull from Riva began to fade from his body Anri could once again move freely but the absences of gravity could now be felt against his body. He had never been weight less before the new feeling was something that would take some getting used too but from the looks of it he had quite a bit of time. Right before the ship had taken off he had programmed it to launch towards a nearby system, it would be a long trip but anything he found there would be better than what was waiting for him back home.
Drifting through the confines of the ship he made his way into the back portion where the hibernation chambers rested, if there was one technology his race had master it was long term hibernation. Sleeping for month’s even years on end was something his race often did to save on food and other supplies, there wasn’t always enough resources to go around so this was their solution. Slipping himself into the simple pod he rested his head against the small pad, it wasn’t the most comfortable thing he had slept on but comfort wasn’t the idea here.
“Hello sir, how long will be you be resting for.” A computerized voice asked.
Anri was a little shocked by the unexpected voice thinking he was alone on the vessel, but the shock quickly wore off him.
“I’ve programmed a course into the computer, however long the trip will take is how long I will sleep for.” Anri grumbled out.
“Data received and process, enjoy your rest sir. You will be awakened upon arrival.”
With the lid of the pod closing he closed his dark eyes resting them with his thoughts, there was a lot going on in his mind but they slow faded as he drifted into the realm of sleep.
