Part I
”Flexing” her new arm Akassa snorts some at the strange sensation. She had only had the fake appendage for a short time and was still far from used to its feel. The Princess had complete control over the arm just like the one it had replaced, yet it felt as if was not truly part of her. Sure she could use it in any way that she could use her right arm, had the ability to channel Ki through it, and even “feel” when it took damage. It just wasn’t….the same. Rotating her shoulder, the part of the arm that connected to her actual flesh, she had to admit the doctors had done well to attach it. They had of course been paid, funds taken from her own Zeni accounts to cover the expense for she did not plan to use the thrones money to pay for it. Stepping from her quarters to her personal training simulator she was ready to test the arm.
”Resolute.” The Princess calls out to the AI of contained within her simulator, and the expected response came.
“Princess Akassa, what do you desire for your training session today?”
Even though the artificial intelligence that was programmed into her computer was not an individual in the normal sense Akassa found she enjoyed the things company. There was something about the honesty and blunt way the computer communicated with her that she enjoyed. Then again, she had never been good at making friends so perhaps it was just easier to spend her time with a companion that was programmed to assist her. There was Ezekiel and Conri though…strange he thoughts brought her to the two males. Both of them she considered friends and they the same in regards to her, Conri had even hinted he wanted more, but that was something she just wasn’t sure how to deal with. Although…she had enjoyed her time with him…
Snorting some she shoves the thoughts from her head, it was time to train, not let her thoughts wander to Conri Lane. ”I am looking to test my new arm out today, yet I don’t want something simple. Give me a creative scenario that will truly give me a challenge and make sure to increase the gravity to x25.”
“Of course Princess, although my records show the handicap matchup during our last session did indeed test you.”
Chuckling some Akassa had to admit that was right, fighting against Conri and Ezekiel had proven to be a bit challenged. Rolling her neck and shoulders again she moves towards the center of the simulator to get ready for whatever it was the machine supplied her with. Taking a deep breath she readies herself a little anxious to get back into combat after having gotten her new arm. That same anxiousness angered her at the same time, for her last fight had been against Aer Nin and she had lost horribly. The UCOO wench had made a fool of her even burnt her arm off in her own palace. Teeth clenching at the thought of it all Akassa was more than ready to begin this session, to pummel whatever the simulator sent her way.
When she was about to demand that Resolute get the session underway the room went dark, the increased gravity almost buckling her legs for a moment. Had something gone wrong with the simulator? ”Resol…” Her words were cut off as a large fist hit her in the side of the head. Totally unprepared for the strike she groans out as it smashes the scouter she wore and sends her onto her side in the dirt. Through her dazed state she still realized what the simulator had just done. The room was pitch black, the Princess not able to see an inch in front of her face and now her scouter was broken, her only way of sensing Ki destroyed. Rolling over she spits on the ground, already tasting blood after the unexpected blow.
“Now Princess, if you are ready to begin we can truly start.”
”You could have requested I take the scouter off, that was unnecessary.”
“Very true Princess, but does an opponent make such requests in combat? If I had been a true foe you might already be dead.”
Glaring into the darkness Akassa would signify she was ready by unleashing her full power, silver aura bursting to life in the darkness. As the aura flowed out around her she had expected it to light the area some as well, but it did not, the darkness seemingly more than it appeared. Arms at her sides and ready she turns slowly as she attempts to peer into the darkness, looking for any hints of movement. Whatever had hit her upside the head before was definitely larger than her, so she hoped she might be able to pick up its movement even with the lack of light. Her ears also strained to try and hear anything, trying to pick up that slight shuffle or exhale of whatever it was she was now facing.
The only warning she received was a rush of air before the same large hand that had struck her in the side of the head hit her square in the chest. With a grunt she is taken right off her feet, sent tumbling along the tiled floor. Coughing some she struggled to quickly get back to her feet, realizing that that arm had been even larger than the first one that hit her. How big was Resolute making her opponent? Shoving back to her feet she begins to charge Ki in both her hands, holding them out in front of her chest. For her efforts she got to see the large green arm this time…right before it clubbed her in the chest again. With a pained groan she is sent tumbling again, eventually smacking up against what she assumed was the wall of the chamber.
Having hit the back of her head against the solid wall Akassa expected another strike to come when she was a bit slow to rise, especially with the increased gravity, but none did. Sliding up against the wall she peers into the darkness, again trying to spot the large creature she was apparently fighting. Whatever it was seemed a bit on the slow side, yet the fact she could not see or hear it made fighting it next to impossible. On top of that what it lacked in speed the creature made up for in strength. Taking a breath the Princess cautiously moves away from the wall, senses straining to detect the creature through the darkness. Teeth clenched she was already growing frustrated, Resolute almost seeming to be messing with her. Arms up in front of her chest she was ready to intercept the arm when it came for her again, the only problem was that it came for her legs this time instead. Again she was caught off guard as it swept her legs out from under her, landing none too nicely on her backside. Hissing some she hops back to her feet.
”Stop playing games with me!”
“I am testing you Princess, just like you requested. Perhaps if your normal senses are failing you there is another you can rely on.”
Akassa wished the computer could see the glare that was meant for it at this moment, not at all pleased with the way it was trying to teach her. As a child she had studied and trained under multiple generals as well as her father, the King. That she had dealt with just fine, for she had been inexperienced and lacked the combat prowess she now possessed. At this stage in her life she took training from no one, perhaps advice on occasion, but never “lessons” like the one she was being tortured with now. The most annoying part about it…was that a computer was putting her through it, a machine that knew about fighting but would never truly understand the depth of it. Snorting a little the Princess was back on her feet, trying to focus her senses even more. Still not able to hear or see a thing, heck not even smell anything, it came to her. The first move Resolute had made was to destroy her scouter, the item that allowed her to read Ki signatures. That must have been the sense that the simulator was talking about, Ki sensing. Muttering under her breath a little she attempts to focus.
Once before, as a young warrioress she had attempted to learn Advanced Ki sensing, but failed miserably. Her own pride had not allowed her admit it was her own fault so she pushed the technique aside, confident that a scouter was sufficient. Along with that excuse she was never afraid to challenge someone, so their PL really didn’t matter. If she was on a mission she would carry it out or die trying, what did it matter if she could read their signature? As it was now Resolute was proving her wrong, for what could she do when she had no idea where her opponent was coming from?
Standing in the darkness she reaches out with her mind, the psychokinetic abilities she now had making it easier to do so. Not having though of trying the sensing technique since acquiring them she smirks some, feeling her mind expand out around her, searching for her attacker. A sensation to her left, followed quickly by a sharp slap across the face. Letting out a small startled cry at the stinging slap she realized that resolute had switched up her “attacker” apparently having realized Akassa was going down the right path.
Thinking she had it figured out the Princess was ready for the next slap, expecting it to come at the other side of her face. The AI was ahead of her though, anticipating as much so instead a punch was send into her stomach. Coughing out Akassa staggers a step from the hard punch, realizing the computer was testing her talents not just her toughness as the size of her attacker had decreased. Refocusing after the punch to the gut she reaches out with her mind once more, sensing her foe again. Closing her eyes, not needing them to stare into the darkness she lets her mind do the work. Sensing a spike off to her left she starts to duck, but isn’t fast enough as the fist clips her in the side of the head. It strikes with sufficient force to stagger her, but not enough to take her to the ground. Not letting her anger get the best of her for once she takes in a breath.
”Again Resolute.” Demanding now that the simulator attack, in a way feeding her pride with the illusion of control. Then again…all she had to do was say the words and the simulation would end so she was in fact in control.
In came another slapped aimed for her face, the simulator knowing her well enough to understand that such superficial hits would aggravate the Princess, testing her focus. This time though Akassa was ready, sensing the approaching Ki as it came towards her. With a quick movement she weaves out of the way of that slap and another that had followed it. Slowly starting to smirk as more strikes came at her she ducks this way and that, some blows managing to glance her form, but none land solidly. Soon afterwards none of the attacks even brushed against her, the Princess getting more adept with the Ki sensing as time went on. Chuckling softly she decides to even take it one step further.
Sensing another strike coming for her head, realizing now that the “foe” she was fighting was actually weaker than her, an insult to how poorly she had been performing before, she shifts as the strike comes in. The punch that was aimed for her face slides past her head as she snaps it to the side, arms reaching up to grab a hold of it. Gripping the muscular arm that had just missed her she twists and pulls, yanking the creature up and over her shoulder to drive it hard into the ground. Putting all her strength behind the slam she heard whatever it was groan in pain, its weaker body not able to handle the strong hit. Letting go of its arm she spins away from it.
”You have made your point Resolute…turn the lights back on and let’s get to fighting!” Her voice had been full of anger before at the frustrating scenario the simulator had set up for her. Now it was full of excitement, ready to get into fighting. This machine was better than she thought upon purchasing it. Having assessed her fighting skills Resolute had realized one of her weaknesses and then forced her to cope with it, adapt to overcome it. The machine would never get a thank you from her, nor did she expect one, after all it was only an AI. Akassa didn’t realize it, but the new friends she had been making, artificial or organic, were starting to round her out as a fighter. She had learned several new techniques after her interactions with Conri an Ezekiel and now Resolute was improving her. The more fighters she met, the more she would learn and the more she would learn, the stronger she would become.
