“I’m here to issue a warning.” Mr. Rosen said standing at the head of the table in which his board of director’s sat, “Do not chose money over power. In this town, a mistake nearly everyone makes. Money is the new mansion in the Hills that starts falling apart after 10 years. Power is the old stone building that stands for centuries. Power is the company you build with your own hands a structure on which you can use to reach even higher. I cannot respect someone who does not see the difference.” Putting both hands on the table Rosen leaned forward towering over the men who controlled his company, and who he in turn controlled. Everything about him screamed power, from the perfectly tailored suit he wore, to the way he composed himself when he spoke. Not so much physical power, while he had that, he knew there were many, many people stronger than he was. But that didn’t matter; his power truly lay in his ability to accomplish things no one else could. Whether it was stealing his company and technology right out from under the nose of Capsul Corp, or the ivory elephant tusk cufflinks on his jacket sleeves, he was a man of means. One who could accomplished things mere physical strength could not. However there were times when gaudy displays of physical strength were necessary.
“One of you has been leaking plans for our new patent to Capsul Corp, one of you has betrayed all of our trust. And because of that one of your contract’s here at Rosen is about to be terminated.” he knew the speech was a bit melodramatic, but it was as much about getting the rest of of his board in line as it was intimidating the man who was about to be fired. “Luckily,” he continued, letting his transformation set in slowly. His normally blue-gray eyes began to turn black as his pupils slowly grew until they filled the entirety of his eyes. It was one of the few powers being an alien granted him, besides nearly tripling his strength it also allowed him to see people’s heat signature’s. It was an ability that let him see into some of these humans basic emotions and while it wasn’t entirely necessary here it let him see the fear inside the man who had betrayed him; the fear that he was no doubt trying to keep from his face. Knowing he had outmaneuvered his opponents was one of the few things that brought a true smile to his face. He had learned to fake a smile years ago to blend in and manipulate people more easily but this was one of the few things that brought him true joy.
“Luckily, I’m always that one step ahead.” with that he vanished from the head of the table leaving an after image everyone stared at for a moment before he reappeared almost instantly behind his CFO Mr. White’s chair. Without a word he raised his hand, index finger extended, thumb in the air he fired his spirit gun into the back of the man’s head killing him almost instantly sending his body limping forward and his blood splattered onto the table in front of board.
“I had actually given different versions of the plans to each one of you just in case. I had believed the precaution wouldn’t be necessary but I was proven wrong. There were only minor differences in each version but,” he said looking down at where his finger was still smoking from the shot. “it left you as guilty as if you were holding a smoking gun.”
Without another word Rosen left the board room to the stunned silence. He had no doubt his display wouldn’t cower them for long, men of their positions wouldn’t be intimidated by mere violence, each of them probably had their own share of blood on their hands. The fact that Mr. White had been incompetent enough to get caught left him the weakest of the herd, needing to be culled as to not drag the rest down. However he hoped the casual way in which he murdered the man in front of the other seven would instill some hesitation in the rest before they so openly betrayed him again. If Rosen believed himself able to murder any of them in such a way without repercussions they would have to be much more cautious if any of them tried to move against him.
Throwing open the doors to the board room Rosen walked out his assistant Mercy falling into step beside him. She looked at him questioningly, he frowned but nodded. She should know better than to ask him how it went. Of course it went well, he had everything planned out before he even walked in the room. Nodding in return she handed him a wet nap and he instantly began cleaning his hands.
It was another frustrating status symbol, people in power weren’t expected to do any work themselves, that was the point of power, to get others to do things for you, and thus Rosen made a point to keep his hands meticulously clean at all times. Once he was done he handed the napkin back to her and she handed him a clipboard with the remainder of the day’s schedule on it all without ever breaking their stride. This was why he valued Mercy so highly, the woman worked like a well oiled machine. If she could get rid of her emotionalism she displayed earlier she would go far in life, and more importantly in Rosen Corp.
“You have your meeting with Toiu’s representative from UNITY in thirty minutes. And then another meeting with their public representative in an hour.” Mercy said opening his car door for him.
“Ah yes, how long will it take to get to the meeting?”
“Twenty minutes sir we should have plenty of time.”
“Take a detour we need to be at least ten minutes late to show my time is valuable.”
“Yes sir.” with that she closed the door behind him and the car shot off. Looking out the window Rosen allowed his transformation to take over turning his eyes black but allowing him to see the peasants scurry around outside. Watching the people race around their heat signatures displaying panic, anger, lust he could practically sense their ambitions. He closed his eyes and turned away, When he opened them again his eyes were back to their normal grayish blue. Still he couldn’t help but smile to himself. Humans really were disgusting creatures.
