Wore rusted plates that seemed to be only holding together with shoty weld marks, gravity and duct tape, were all that was holding the old junker of a space ship together anymore, the condition overall from the outside matched of something that should have been inside a junk yard that had been around for eon’s but instead it was sitting out in the middle of the woods away from snooping people and other prying eyes. While the outside might not have looked like much anyone that knew a thing or two about vehicles would know they found a gold mine in parts, alone the engine would set someone back quite a ways and that wasn’t even including the cooling system and liquid fuel intake. The number of times the parts had been replaced or patch up had been long ago lost, at this point in time at least seventy percent of the vessel was not from the original make up. Pieces had been lost, blasted off in fire fights or just worn down over time, even with the utmost care in repairs and dedication everything broke down in time. Anri would have felt a since of shame if he was capable of such a thing as he looked over his pet but all he felt was a wanting to fix the poor machine. As great as his need to repair the thing he had the skill but lacked the right parts to get the job down, as it was he could probably get it running but it wouldn’t be leaving the planet’s atmosphere anytime soon. Other than the gravity dampers being trashed; throw together at the last minute to get off a world that was about to ignite, the engine was shattered at the moment. The scarp that consisted of what was the engine was still worth quite a bit of cash but in the end if the motor didn’t function properly he wasn’t going much of anywhere in the near future.
Anri stood about twenty feet out from the outside of the worn fainted orange ship, peering over his poor wielding jobs that had been done in emergency situations, massive decompression, micro meteors, shit like that, when he only had but a minute or so till that was game over for him. He wished he had spent more time working on the vessel, keeping up with its maintenance but things had so busy as of late it was hard to even find time to work on his project. It was a disgrace to see it in such a shape but even if he had the parts right now his busy schedule had come in the way once again, though it wasn’t technically along the lines of his normal work something recently had caught his attention. Not long ago when he was at Kemuri’s castle had a human male broken into the facility to try and “rescue’” Jenn, during his attempts to get into the castle the human had used a AI to try and hack into the severs of the castle’s security. It was a bold plan however it was quickly proven that it was not well thought out as Anri’s, over the years he had spent afloat in space had learned quite a bit about computers, hacking and their inter-working's, though he could never match the speed of a machine he was able to trap the AI within the confines of the system after which he shut the system down in order to keep the program from escaping. At the time it was unclear just how advance the program was, so Anri had done his part to play it safe, with no way about he was quick to cut the power so that it could not move to another system.
Up till this point in time he had scanned the AI too the best of the computers abilities he had back at the castle but it came to his attention that only part of the information had survived the process, even all that was damaged he had managed to recover around sixty percent of the data that was contained within the program, much more than he had expected and it gave him plenty of room to work with. Being the one always looking for new challenges it really didn’t matter where they came from, whether it was fighting someone that was stronger than him or testing his mental skills to overcome an issue, often it was difficult to find such a good test of his mental skills so this was going to prove to be fun. This wasn’t the first time that Anri had dealt with an AI before but it was certainly the first time that he was ever going to work with one in such a mannerism.
“I’m home honey.” Anri chuckled walking up to the ship, sensing Anri’s voice as it traveled to meet its sensors the many lights with in the cabin and a few exterior ones kicked to life, by the call of its master the sleeping steel beast awoke.
“Long time no see.” Anri came up to the steel siding and gave the vessel a pat on the side as if it was a living creature, even the lights seemed to flicker on and off with his touch, though it was probably due to the fact that the wires were held together with tape.
After a few seconds a bay hanger opened towards the rear of the ship, with the hydraulics in full gear the motors spun letting the two halves of the pressed door open, a loud pitch hiss rang through the area with the splitting of the steel doors. As if on command a large blast of dust shot out from the opening hanger with the sudden change of pressure, it seemed as though the cabin had still be pressurized the whole time he had been away.
“Oops, maybe I should turn that off next time.” Anri shook his head at his own stupid mistake as he wafted his hand in front of his face to rid his vision of the dust, even though he could see just fine he knew if it got into his gills he would be hacking up dust clots for the next few hours.
“Computer activate air filters.” Anri chocked on the dust as he way his way through the thick cloud, climbing up onto the steel platform that had stretched out from the hangar his feet stomped across the flooring as he made his way deeper into the hull of the ship.
It had been a good few months since he had last steeped inside the Shattered Sun, and other than the fine layer of dust that coated pretty much everything on the inside, all of his personal property seemed to be in the right place, just as he had left it. There had been many chances to come back to his home away from home during his stay here but Anri could never give up the chance to stay at a castle and sleep in an actual bed and not just some cot that pulled out from the wall. As it stood now though seeing his ship in such a state Anri decided that it would probably be best and stick around here for a few days, maybe longer and get things cleaned up, perhaps see if he could get around to fixing the chuck of metal back into working order. As it stood most of the ship was in working order other than the engine which had previously been mentioned, the ship its self looked as though it was going to explode any minute… maybe a makeover would be the best in this case?
Shrugging his board shoulders Anri glanced over too where his work bench was at, though ‘work bench’ was just a term he used for the area, in reality it was where he pretty much did all of his work. Chemical experimenting, welding, metal working, hacking, programming and even cooking… sometimes at least… often he found himself too lazy to go down stairs and just work in the kitchen but he had proven that a blow torched could cook a roast if given long enough.
Taking a few strides over to table the monitors that clung to its sides were already lit up showing him a 3-D imagine of his ship, though the picture that is displayed was from a long time ago, right whenever he had first gotten the Shattered Sun, looking at the picture now made him think back to all the adventures he had taken in his vessel, good times, well a few of them were, for the most part someone was always trying to kill him for one reason or another. Brushing the tip of his index finger across the smooth sheet of steel he used to work on a large clump of dust and dirt clung to his leathery skin, making him shake his head from side to side at the sight of it. Taking a hold of a large hose which was connected to a compressed air machine he pressed a small button on the side of nozzle as a gust of air sprayed out blowing away a cloud of dust as it slammed into the tables surface, making sure that he was holding his breath most of the dust was taken away in the air vents as the rest of it found its way gliding out from the open hangar. Following up with a few more small bursts of air the area seemed clean enough for his liking, it wasn’t as though he was performing heart surgery or anything, it was all computer working that was going to be done, though he wanted to have clear stage for his new guest.
Like reading his own mind a stool appeared from the flooring just as Anri was leaning back to sit down the seat came up too meet his weight, shifting on the chair to find the best place for comfort he set himself the edge of the chair as he leaned forward placing his elbows on the edge of the work bench. Taking it upon himself Anri tapped his hand on the table top as a robotic claw dropped from the ceiling with a finely rolled cigar holding in its firm grip as it placed the end of brown wrapped tobacco roll into the corner of his mouth. In a quick slide of the robotic hand did the tip of the cigar become sliced off from the rest of the cigar, tossing the bud off into a trash can the steel blade flipped back around and slide against a small tip of flint that was hidden inside the mechanism lighting the tip of the cigar up in a fury of sparks and light. Taking a few quick drags from the cigar Anri smiled with a plume of smoke coming out of his mouth, giving the robotic hand a small fist bump the hand rose back into the ceiling leaving Anri to himself once again. Now that he was comfortable back in his home away from home, a cigar lit in his mouth at sit at his work station he was ready to get to work. It was unknown just exactly how much work was going to be needed with this AI, other than a few details the computer at the castle had given him it was pretty unknown too him just what he was going to be facing; with that in end he brought up a screen that controlled the wireless access outside of this ship. As far as he was away from the city there was little chance of the program trying to jump else were but just to be on the safe side he set too work disconnecting the system from the wi-fi, even going so far as letting the computer of the ship to manual disconnected the sever itself till it was at the point there was nowhere for the program to go but stay in the terminal that he was at. After a few minutes everything other than power had been taken away from the station leaving it feel as barren as they day he had gotten it, even the robotic hands would no longer respond to his commands from the terminal though elsewhere in the ship they would still respond to his verbal commands.
Blowing out puffs of smoke through his gills Anri reached up too his bandolier, usually it would take him a few minutes of searching in order to find exactly what he was looking for but this time he had made sure to know exactly where he had planted the hard drive in which he had stored the information on. Unlike the small flash drive he had used the first time around to hold the AI this time he had used a much larger storage device with a battery that had a much larger capacity, even though it had been a few days since he extracted the machine from the computer at the castle its battery life was still around seventy percent of what it had started out from. There was more than ample time for him to lounge around if he so chose too but with how unknown this program was there a many number of things that it might have done to try and preserve its information to getting into the wrong hands, though Anri doubted that the machine had anything worth his time to look through its millions of data banks; the human that had been using it seemed to have no idea how to best use it and if it was made by him then the design would have surely been piss poor; surely there was little of value in its data bank but its construction was something that intruded him. Hard drive in hand Anri was quick to plug the right cords into the right slots one after the other till the connection symbol was pulled up on one of monitors, flashing a few times Anri pulled his hand over his head tugging onto a small black lensed object, putting it hover a few feet above the table. Pulling back from the table Anri waited knowing it would only be a bit longer till it happened, at this point he could have forced the process but he thought it more fun for it to come to him. Leaning back with cigar smoke flooding from his mouth he saw it… or maybe it was his eyes playing tricks on him, keeping his calm demeanor he sat there with his arms crossed as a blue light began to shimmer on the table from the black device. It was hard to make out just what he was looking at as the picture seemed to have blurry lines that made it difficult for the imagine to fully from, from what he could make it out it looked too be of a young female but even with his well-adapted eyes it was near to impossible to make out just what it was.
“Where am I?” The small feminine voice came out; and it confirmed his thoughts of it being female based, though its form was that of a female and even her voice, they were all options that had predated her creation, in reality of the matter she was not technically a person and therefore she had no real gender just what was chosen of her.
“You’re…in a safe place.” Anri spoke those his words weren’t completely a lie she was much safer here in his hands than with the idiot that had her in the first place, at least Anri knew what he was doing with her, and what he was going to use for her in the future. Had she be left in the hands of the human she would never had reached her true potential now she had to shot for it… whether she wanted it or not, it wasn’t as though she had much of a choice in the manner.
“Who are you? Where is Brandon?” Her voice had a tone of fear in it but it was nothing more than something programmed into her coding.
“I am Anri, and I will take a guess that Brandon was the human that you were accompanied with following.” Anri noted taking a pretty good guess at who she was talking about.
“That’s correct… where is he? I need to see him… I appeared to have suffered… damages….”
“Hate to be the bearer of bad news… well not actually, but that man wouldn’t know the difference between someone he is trying to save and his murder, if you need him for repairs then let me be the first too tell you of his death.” Anri got to the point, there was little to no point in beading around the bush when it came with the AI, he had no real reason not to.
“I don’t believe you!” The Ai raised her voice.
“Well whether you believe or it doesn’t change the facts sweet heart as it stands though it really doesn’t matter what you think of it, at the end of the day he will still be dead and you will still be here with me.” A silence filled the room with his words as the AI tried to comprehend everything it had just be told, this left Anri with a good amount of time to pull up a list of data banks that contained all the data that made up the program. Opening and scanning through each of the files it would have looked like endless data packets upon data packets but Anri knew exactly what he was looking for. Coming up to the virtual 3-D display models Anri opened the file and began browsing through it at a casual speed, there was no rush here today.
“What are you doing?” The AI spoke up after it took notice of Anri going through the many files that composed her very being, every bit of data inside her coding had control over the way she acted, the way she thoughts even the way she spoke, everything that she was could be changed at the snap of Anri’s fingers.
“Your appearance has been damaged or more of corrupted in the transfer process, such a shame too, it will take some work to make you a new frame and even longer too work out the mechanics of your inner workings… though I might just be able to use a simple copy and paste…..” Anri’s words trailed off as his mind went to work going through the bits of data and looking them over one by one, many of them had been damaged during the time spent away from the host sever. Picking the files that were still one hundred percent salvageable and separating the ones that more than fifty percent damaged he wasn’t left with much in the end of it all, it was little more than just a fuzzy blue outline. During the process the AI had kept quiet, it might have been watching the progress he was making or just had nothing to say too him as of yet, after all he was inside her code tinkering away at what made her up, though she was silent it almost looked as though her form was cross legged and sitting on the metal table as it looked him over, following with her blurry blue head every time he moved.
Now that all the scrap was taken out of the way there was little too work with now but it just meant that he had an almost blank slate to work with now, few idea racked his mind but it was hard just to pick one of them, going over the plans in his mind Anri eventually settle on a combination of the three ideas into one. Keeping the female frame that had already been picked made thing easier as he could just work too the frames outline without having to edit more lines of code, as it was it wouldn’t have been too difficult but many problems could come from an error in the frame later down the road which might have it so that a whole remake would have been needed. It was the best solution for the situation and in the end, the AI still kept some of its appearance… what was left of it anyway, as it stood there wasn’t much left to go on.
Not needing any tools but his hands and the computers around him he set off to work sculpting the new body that the AI was going to have, like a lump of clay her frame shifted and moved with his light touch of his fingertips, there was no need to press hard on the model, the longer his finger was in place on an area the more the model would warp and twist at his command. Anri was never one to be called an artist but he found some entrainment in working with this, after a while he found that the computers seemed to have a aiding system that helped to guide the appearance too something more eyes pleasing adding curves and other texture were his unskilled hands could not. Working about as well as he could be expected too the bluish body of the AI being to take clearer shape with every passing minute, though Anri could have just stuck in coding format it would have taken in weeks if not months of pain staking coding of lines to get anywhere decent, as it was he was sure the amount of work he had done already would have been at least a months’ worth of time in coding.
Hours after hour Anri made slow progress through making the model, though he lacked any skill in the fine arts he thought this at least somewhat a recovery of his skills in perfection after the mess his ship was in, though repairing his ship would have gotten the same result he found this new experience more interesting. All along the way he had had come across new challenges each one adding more time onto the creation but also gave him a new outlook on what he was doing, hopefully in the future they would do some good and help him else were during his travels. By this point the ash tray that had been mounted to the side of the work bench was filled to the point where the dark thick clumps of ash had crumbled on the floor, even with the large amount of ash that was sitting in the tray Anri already had another cigar lit up hanging from the corner of his mouth, he wasn’t quite sure how many he had gone through but the sun had already set long ago by this point in time.
Pulling away from the tables side Anri leaned back into the chair, stretching his arms to the sky he let out a loud yawn that caused the leaves outside the ship to rattle with his voice alone. Already it had been a long day and the night was going to be even longer, even now as he looked over the still forming body there was much progress to go before it would match anywhere near his expectations of himself. Still sitting in the same position that it had been all those hours ago he could finally make out the outline of the female frame without the light seeming to shutter every few seconds. Everything seemed to be working out well so far, the body was nicely formed, toes and fingers still needed some work and the face while her voice could express just how she was feeling from her tone alone the rest of her face was a blank palette, no eyes, no mouth, if it wasn’t for the fact that he knew she didn’t need a mouth to speak then it would have confused him greatly.
Anri stood about twenty feet out from the outside of the worn fainted orange ship, peering over his poor wielding jobs that had been done in emergency situations, massive decompression, micro meteors, shit like that, when he only had but a minute or so till that was game over for him.
