Banduk smiled up at the entrance to the small house that was perched atop the spire-like hill at one end of Guru Village. The house was somewhat dome-shaped, much like the traditional style houses down below. It was colored a soft white, and had several small windows that dotted the walls around it. The surrounding earth was covered in beautiful flowers of many different colors, some of them very exotic in nature. Banduk was aware that the Grand Elder had much time to himself, so it made sense that the wise old Namekian kept himself busy with a hobby. Gardening was something that many villagers enjoyed, but none of them had gardens of such fine quality.
After taking a slow, gentle breath, Banduk made his way towards the open doorway of the house. He'd made a habit of paying periodic visits to the Grand Elder's residence in order to visit with his master. The two usually shared a conversation regarding Banduk's training, and the progress of the young Namekian's efforts to take the position of the planet's Grand Elder. It was a slow process, one that the current Banduk had spent all his life working towards. His father before him had trained for hundreds of years as well, but the Guru outlived Banduk the first. Pitka certainly wasn't as young as he used to be, but he still had life left in him.
It was quiet inside the small house, and very peaceful. Banduk was glad that such a place might belong to him once it was time to receive the title of Guru, as nowhere else seemed as suitable a home for someone that required much meditation. "Grand Elder Pitka, it is I. May I come in?" he asked, poking his head into the archway-like entrance to the house, wondering if perhaps the Guru was in the back room. There was also the possibility that Pitka's son was around, as the young man served as Pitka's guardian.

The elegant little house sat upon a hill. It had been Grand Elder Moori’s house many a year ago. After him it was Grand Elder Sumu’s residence. Finally it became Grand Elder Pitka’s humble abode. Son of Sumu, grandson of Moori, and great-grandson to the Allfather, Grand Elder Guru, Pitka had a special talent unlike his predecessors who were, nonetheless, also talented. His ‘green thumb.’
“In the back Ducky, as if you would not know by now?”
Were the words which would reverberate through the mind of the ever eager Banduk Gundu. Certainly he would hear the unspoken words and come through the house to the rear door, passing Cudikyl meditating menacingly, if there was ever such a way, just outside the door which overlooked a magnificent garden spreading all the way down the hill, facing away from the village.
"Hmph."
Is all the brusque son of the Grand Elder would offer the young Banduk.
“Ah my pupil, what may I help you with? Have you come to help tend my garden?”
The Grand Elder would say softly, always careful not to upset his gentle children of the seed, without turning to face the younger namekian, too busy beneath his large sun hat, carefully pulling weeds from betwixt his beautiful ensemble of flowers to turn. The Grand Elder was towards the middle of his long life, though his body did not know. Having an energetic son who loved to train, as well as pupils from time to time, had kept him in peak shape even now as he began to wind down. Time wore on his face though, as age was etched into his gentile features.

Banduk laughed quietly to himself at the Grand Elder's telepathic message that included the affectionate nickname he had given Banduk when he was first hatched. It was quite amusing to see the old, withered disciple of Pitka give birth to such an eager young man, full of curiosity and intrigue. He learned quickly about the world around him, and with the latent potential inside him thanks to his father's power, he took quickly to all the teachings handed down to him by the Grand Elder, as well as the leaders of the Healing and Warrior clans. 'Ducky' was the perfect name for such a boy, especially given his slightly naive nature.
Making his way to the back door of the small home, he gave a simple smile to Cudikyl, who was being his normal antisocial self. Banduk didn't think negatively of this man, he just wished that the Elder Guru's own son would be a bit more welcoming. Still, Banduk continued walking, stepping out into the main garden and gazing at the wonderful array of colors and scents. He even noticed a few new exotic additions to the bunch since last time he'd visited, about one week ago. He'd made a habit of paying visits to his master every so often, and as such, he had plenty of opportunities to take a look at the garden.
"If it is what you wish, Grand Elder, I would be glad to help you." Banduk said in response to Pitka's words, crouching down to gently part a few bundles of delicate flowers, finding the roots of those pesky weeds and carefully pulling them out. He had helped tend to the garden several times in the past, so this was nothing new. "I have come to let you know that my training with Batto is going smoothly. If all goes well, I should have the healing techniques of the old ways mastered shortly." he explained, having been studying hard to properly learn about the healing methods used by ancient Namekian Elders. "My training with Nohkan is progressing more slowly, however, due to my distaste for violence, of which you are well aware." he said with a small shrug, knowing that there was no use in hiding the fact that he didn't care much for combat. It was a valuable skill to have, of that he was sure, but that didn't change the fact that it was never something he really enjoyed.

“Ah yes my pupil, you are a Namekian after my own heart. One day though, you will find that violence, no different than peace, has its place in our world.”
His words were carried by the slight breeze which ruffled his magnificent specimens. With speed too fast for Banduk to register with his eyes, the Grand Elder violently snatched a weed from betwixt two grand flora.
“There will always be those who come to abuse the powers we hold Ducky. We are creatures with the power to rewrite history; to redefine what ‘full power’ truly means. Many will darken our doorstep during our years; we must have both the strength and the knowledge to protect our people, and all those whom call New Namek their home.”
Gently he touched the petals of the flower he just saved, while the weed was lit by green flame in the open palm of his opposite hand. Closing his hand tightly, he grinded the remains into ashes which, as he opened his hand once more, were taken by the wind.
“Each of these flowers represents a resident of our humble home world. When new life is brought forth; so will the garden grow. As a flame withers and fades, so does its flora counterpart. A gentle hand and calm voice strengthens them; soothes them. However, kindness does not conquer all. Soft words and a loving touch will not cause the weeds to flee; they will not save the flowers in their time of need.”
Pitka finally looked to Gundu, from beneath his large sun hat, and smiled. Pitka had once felt as he did; that healing was more important for it was the Grand Elder’s job to guide and save his worldly family. It was a hard lesson he had learned from his predecessor; his father Sumu.
“We are here to maintain the peace, above all else. If that means we must heal the sick, then that is what we do. If it means we must defend the meek, then that is what must be done. You don’t wish to harm; I can relate. Sometimes though, we must do things we do not like to protect those we love; and as Grand Elder it is your duty to do just that for a Grand Elder loves all his brothers.”
He said, using “brothers” as a catch all term for the Namekians, who all originated from the All-father, Grand Elder Guru and were thus all closely related.

Banduk listened to the words of his wise teacher, nodding in agreement. He was aware that there was a proper time and place for violence in the world, but hearing it again from the Grand Elder was refreshing. "Yes, Elder." he responded with a small smile, watching as the seemingly weak and defenseless Pitka demonstrated his impressive speed, a skill that was refined from years upon years of training.
The Grand Elder went on to explain that as long as there was the proud Namekian race, there would always be those who were intent on slaying the mystical race. The technique used to reduce the weed to ashes was interesting to see... Perhaps Banduk would get the opportunity to produce such a flame in the future, after a more specific lesson involving attack skills. The Elder's short monologue regarding the importance of offensive action as opposed to kind words was interesting to hear, and Banduk made a mental note to study up on the wording later on.
"I understand. I will continue my training in hopes of one day being strong enough to defend my people, should it be required of me." Banduk said with a short bow of his head, smiling back at Pitka. The young Namekian continued pulling weeds contently, not working hard enough to work up a sweat, and instead making for a leisurely visit with his teacher and friend. "Elder Pitka... Did my father enjoy fighting more than I do?" he asked, knowing that his father, like him, trained under the Grand Elder directly. Though Banduk II retained much of the experience and talent from his father, he didn't know specifics about the man's personality. He'd never met his father, often wishing he would get a chance someday.

Pitka looked to Banduk Gundu, easily seeing the resemblance of his namesake, and remembering upon his experiences with his father. They had indeed trained together both before and after Pitka’s selection as Grand Elder. Gundu Sr. was a talented man who had rivaled Pitka’s abilities in nearly every way, but much like Banduk’s son, Pitka had youthful determination on his side. It saddened the Grand Elder when his friend, and first pupil upon attaining the position, passed as flower fell a new one grew in its place. While Gundu Jr. was not nearly at the level his father had been, he had what his father did not have; many years to become wiser and stronger.
“Your father was an interesting man to say the least. As wise as the day was long, we’d often sit for hours talking of our philosophies. Banduk was strong but found violence to be distasteful. The few times he had to exercise his strength upon another, there was always sadness in his eyes. It is not in a Grand Elder’s nature to harm for it is our privilege to nurture, and your father was a Grand Elder in all but name.”
Pitka had beaten Banduk Sr. when Grand Elder Sumu passed for the right to take the position. His advanced age was taken in consideration, though Pitka was likely to attain the position anyways. He had spent his entire life training under his father, Sumu, knowing that one day he’d pass and someone else would have to take the reins of New Namek. Despite their rivalry of sorts the two were dear friends. Grand Elder Pitka had been with Gundu for the birth of his son and the inevitable death that followed. They had talked for hours leading up to his passing, as they had done so many times before.
“However your father would never stray from a fight if he deemed it necessary. We had fought many battles together, as we had spent some years traveling the stars in search of our enlightening, and never did he lay a hand when one was not necessary but by the same token did he never turn away when violence was needed. A balance is what we all seek my adopted son. You must find your equilibrium as your father and I before you.”

Banduk looked at his teacher with great respect, listening closely to the words being spoken to him. His father was an impressive Namekian to say the least, and would surely have been the Grand Elder if not for his advanced age, and the fact that Pitka was generally a more skilled protector. "Yes, I understand... If only I got more enjoyment out of fighting. Then I would excel in my training much more effectively." said Banduk, wishing that he would acquire a taste for combat somehow. All those stance drills and physical exercises with Nohkan were pretty boring, since all he had to work for these days were sparring matches. He trained to fight Nohkan, who he knew he would not defeat for a long time. It was a drag, really. He needed a challenge, something to test him in a way that might make him feel accomplished.
"The issue is that I can defeat almost all Namekians with relative ease with the exception of Nohkan and yourself. With all due respect, losing over and over isn't the most enjoyable thing to work towards... And fighting weaker opponents is distasteful." Banduk said with a small sigh, hoping to explain not only why he disliked fighting, but also why the training itself wasn't enjoyable. At least with Batto's training, the techniques were easily applicable, and showed results soon after each new skill was learned. With fighting, all he could do was work harder and harder, with no evident reason to continue. Not only that, but going easy on the common citizen of Guru Village wasn't very beneficial either. It wasn't a challenge, and barely qualified as a warm-up if the opponent was strong enough.

Pitka listened to his students’ worries, understanding the truth behind them. Namekians by and large were a peaceful race and thus found no need for the advancement of power. The few protectors of the beautiful planet were that of its masters and, of course, the Grand Elder. The power gap was noticeable to say the least.
“You don’t need to enjoy the fighting, you must only know that which you are fighting for my pupil. I myself enjoy sparring as a friendly competition. And although I don’t enjoy battling someone to inflict pain, I know that when I confront the evils that face our planet I do it to in order to protect all the people that I hold dear to my heart.”
He says as he gestures to his magnificent garden; implying that all of who called his glorious planet home are his reason. Then there is a sudden shift in the breeze; so miniscule that it is unnoticeable to all but he who sees the flow of Namek’s energy, a gift to all those who become Grand Elder. Sticking his index finger in his mouth, burned free of the garden’s dirt by the green flames, he pulled it free and jutted it into the air.
“There is a disturbance in the force Ducky. An… Unusual power is present on our peaceful little world. Head to the Cerulean Plains, seek out Bato. Investigate this strange presence and perhaps you may even get the fair battle you desire. Oh and Ducky? Triple scoop vanilla with chocolate dip, and don’t dare forget the waffle cone!”
It’s good to be Grand Elder.

Banduk sighed as his master began speaking again. He knew it wasn't necessary to enjoy combat... But for the sake of training, getting some enjoyment out of it would certainly help. Pitka himself even admitted to enjoying a friendly spar, something that Banduk himself didn't even receive in most cases. There had certainly been a few moments when striving for victory was fun, but of course, Nohkan wasn't the type to just let Banduk win a match. One thing that Banduk WAS sure of, however, was that he shared Pitka's desire to help all Namekians. He didn't have to enjoy fighting, but he certainly enjoyed protecting.
The Grand Elder ended his monologue by implying some kind of disturbance that had found its way onto Namek. Banduk assumed that 'the force' was just another word for the spiritual bond Pitka had with the planet and its people, but of course, Pitka was an odd one at times, often using vague terms that didn't make much sense to anyone but himself. Still, the idea of finally having a good challenge was appealing, and so Banduk prepared to set out with a small bow of his head. "Of course, I'll be on my-" he began, only for Pitka to add one last thing to his command.
... An ice cream order? Banduk raised an eyebrow, finding such a request to be quite out of place given the meaningful conversation thus far. Still, Pitka's requests were to be respected, and Banduk wasn't one to deny the Grand Elder of his frozen treats... "Right. I'll grab it on the way back." the student promised, slowly rising into the air after giving one last short bow of respect to his trusted counselor. With that, he was off, flying towards his destination in a trail of pearly white energy.
(( Finished, PL please. ))
