“Gravity increase to 30x, simulation engaged.”
Frantic footsteps rush through the ever bustling streets of Alpha Prime, peering over each shoulder in turn. Taking a sudden turn, the hooded boy tore down the road before dipping into a nearby ally. Pressing up against the cold metal of the building, he hid in the shadows. He even held his breath. A few moments passed. Then a few more, then he started to get a headache.
Taking a deep breath the apparent human ducked his head out of the shade and into the street. He saw nothing but he paused for a few moments longer, ever cautious. He was beginning to curse his inability to sense ki, at times like these he had no idea where his pursuers where. On the street over perhaps? On the other end of the ally creeping up from behind? C’mon, pull it together! William Watson attempted to internally encourage.
So many warriors he had met shared this apparently not so rare ability. It fascinated the boy, to the point that he, if given the opportunity, often questioned people he knew shared the gift. A few likened the answers to “describing sight to the blind.” Some who were able to put the sensations into words described other people’s ki as a signature of sorts, something inherently unique to them, like a fingerprint. One namekian said his people could even sense the inherent good or evil in another if they train enough.
He saw a flash overhead. Staring up at the crest of the roofs he did not make a sound. Then he saw another. They had taken to the rooftops. But here the boy sat, blind as a bat. Sure, anyone aware of ki could learn basic ki sensing. But it was not accurate, more or less just telling you if something is there, not even giving you the ability to even tell signatures apart. However those advanced in ki sensing can tell the location, life force and power level of anyone; save machines.
Closing his eyes William thought of what every person had said to him about the technique. Opening his mind’s eye he imagined the area surrounding him, piecing it together from his memories. At first he focused on his own energy, locating it on the mental map. He studied the ebb and flow of the ki, like a spiritual heartbeat. Then he expanded outwards, forcing his senses to stretch farther than ever before. He listened for the heartbeat of the other’s ki signatures.
After a few exasperating moments of self-doubt he heard a ping in his mind, then another. Then another, and another. Soon he saw them all, little dots of light in the maze of his map. Focusing on each one in turn he felt the vibrancy of their ki and determined their power from it. It was incredible, who knew it would only take the necessity of saving his own skin to push himself past the basic levels. After reviewing everyone he determine there to be nine assailants, none a match for Willie, even with his heavy weights holding him back. However, together they could kill him.
Then he noticed one light stopped moving, hovering above his own. Opening his eyes he saw a man peering down into the darkness, and then smile when he saw the light in the sky glisten off the boy’s eyes. Remembering where they all where William immediately leapt into the air, just as the grunt opened his mouth to speak. Then suddenly the lackey was sucked into the darkness of the alley without a word. Willie emerged a moment later, staying low to avoid detection.
Coming up behind another masked warrior, the creek of the roof gave him away. Swinging on his heel he brought a kick to Willie’s stomach, sending him backwards, heels digging into the ground. Quick to follow up the man swung hard at Watson’s face but William brought his own foot up between the two and thrust kicked the assailant with all his available might. He soared through the air before colliding into a building. This, however, alerted the other seven.
Vying for better position William ran to the edge of a roof overlooking the street, where the warriors could not surround him. As they neared he turned a palm and fired off several Vanishing Beams at the incoming men. One was struck in the leg, took a violent spin and tumbled into an alleyway headfirst. Another took a direct shot to the chest, sent him flying back where he remained, laid out and motionless. A third took a grazing shot to the shoulder which seared his skin but did not stop his advance.
With five left Watson held out his hands, summoning two crimson chakrams just as they were upon him. Deflecting strikes with the new rings for a few moments he then moved forward. He struck one hard in the nose, breaking it in a large splatter of blood. Spinning his mule kicked him in the chest sending him up in the air. The coup de grace was Willie doing a back flip kick to send the attacked back down, through the roof and buried deep within the building. The final four jumped back before firing simultaneously ki blasts his direction. They did not let up, but neither did the boy.
Dodging what blasts he could, and making what ones he could not as non-damaging as possible. A few grazing shots across his arms and legs, and one into his abdomen, and he was upon the two to his right one more. While delivering a haymaker to the one on his left he brought his right hand to the other man’s chest. A red light spray up in the inches between the goon’s chest and the boy’s palm and then he was off. Flying off into the sky like fireworks. The second was tough, taking the strike in stride and unleashing a ki blast of his own right to Willie’s face.
The direct blow sent the boy tumbling off the edge, where he ricocheted off the sides of the buildings before hitting the ground hard. The chakrams however, were freed from his grip in the fall and flew up at the one who had struck him. As the other two neared, the rings appeared from the alleyway and began hitting him repeatedly in the face with great power. One would then hook a leg while the other his neck, before the former pulled up and the latter pulled down. With a hard thump he took to the ground. Hell’s Gates were not finished, wiggling free and flying high into the air before turning and coming down at full speed.
They would connect with the downed man’s chest as he tried to collect his breath from the fall, and drive him through the roof and out of view, with half the roof with it. Watching the mystical rings in awe, the remaining two did not notice William circumvent their position and approach from their rear. Once the rings were hidden from view, they too did not see them exit the building before following Watson’s route, right into his awaiting palms.
“Sorry fellas, simulation over,” Watson said with a smile as he hooked both around their necks with the two rings before pulling them together with all his might, bouncing their heads off one another’s with such force that they were instantly unconscious.
