Another strike to the temple dropped yet another opponent. However as soon as they were down another jumped right into the fray. It seemed to never end and Kurosanai could barely keep up. One after another, trainee after trainee and they all met their end. But his father had cheered him on commanding him never to give up and prove how strong he was. Why should he have to? He had beaten each and every single one of these guys countless times during their sparring sessions. They were all family and all were friends. But to his horror, in fact everyone’s horror word came down from the clan elders that he would have to be tested in order to truly determine the progress of his training. When his father had read off the edict in front of the entire training class everyone’s jaw dropped and he knew he wasn’t going to get his father to answer why. Minato’s face was pale and he looked tired. He had looked tired for several days now including the day ole man Sarutobi died, his funeral which was attended by every Muzai clan member two days after that and then now this. Rumors had begun to circulate that it was because a new clan leader was being chosen. Apparently according to everyone that was outside of the people that knew, Kurosanai was a leading candidate.
Perhaps that was why he was going through such grueling training. In any case Kurosanai did not have time to think on it. He side stepped another attack and countered with a quick uppercut that took his opponent of his feet. His unconscious body fell to the ground and then a girl leapt over him throwing a superman punch. She was quicker than Kurosanai had expected and he ended up eating the punch square to the draw. He stumbled backwards as she landed in the ring and prepared for a counter attack. However before Kuro could launch such an attack a voice pierced through the fighting.
“Are you the true prodigy of the Muzai clan?” A feminine voice asked causing Kuro’s female opponent to falter. He turned to see his father silently standing next to Izanami, Sarutobi’s daughter. Everyone fell deadly silent as they noticed her presence. Kurosanai held his tongue as well knowing that she commanded respect within the family. “Well, I am talking to you. Are you really the prodigy I heard so much about from my late father?” Izanami could only being speaking to Kurosanai, who wiped his mouth of the blood that happened to roll out of his lip.
“I…I suppose I am. Though that is a title that was given to me not one I gave myself.” Kurosanai stated through heavy breathing. The match ups had been going on for almost forty minutes straight now and he was starting to tire.
“Of course it was. Only an arrogant fool would give himself such a title.” Izanami spat forcefully from her lips. Minato cringed at the end of the sentence as he wanted to yell at Izanami for speaking to his son that way but knew better. “You have the Aoiro right?”
“I do.” Kurosanai panted.
“Good show me its power.” She raised her hand and pointed to the five other sparring partners. “All of you. In the ring now. Make him demonstrate the supposed power of those eyes.” The five looked at each other and then Kurosanai who did not flinch under the challenge. What was she trying to prove? “Did I stutter? Now.” Izanami snapped. The five stepped into the ring cautiously to join the female already there.
Kurosanai rolled his neck as he looked left and right as his fellow training students surrounded him. She wanted to push him to his limits. If she wanted that then he would stop holding back. He closed his eyes and then opened them again revealing a blue twister pattern emanating from his pupils, the Aoiro that had been gifted to him. He sank into a fighting stance as his eyes darted around him as he waited for the first strike to fall.
The first came in from his five o’clock. Kurosanai snapped to face him ducking under the attack and struck multiple times in the chest. The man staggered backwards and collapsed gasping for air. Number two came from right next to Kuro and caught him in the mouth with a punch. Kuro grabbed his wrist and pulled him to the ground with him. He planted his feet in chest of number two and flipped him backwards onto his head. Kurosanai rolled to off his shoulder and caught number three with an uppercut right as he started to even move. Number four moved forward as Kuro shifted forward and struck several times in the chest using the Muzai fighting style. Number four dropped like a fly. Number five and six moved at the same time. Kurosanai caught number five in the face with head kick that knocked him out and followed up with a stiff elbow to the jaw of number six. She also fell to the ground but she had the luxury of being conscious.
All six taken out in less than thirty seconds, it could have been done without the Aoiro but it was much easier as Kurosanai was able to see the flow of ki and how they were beginning to move before they did. Even after all of that though Izanami was far from impressed. She continued to stand there stone faced as the gears in her head turned. Kurosanai straightened up and then closed his eyes to deactivate the Aoiro. When he reopened his eyes Izanami had already turned and started walking away. “Follow me ‘prodigy’.”
Kurosanai jumped out of the training ring and followed after Izanami. As he passed his father Minato joined him in pursuit of Izanami. They followed her until she led them to the meeting hall in the Muzai compound. Normally this hall would be empty unless a meeting was called that concerned the entire clan. Today it was filled with the three other clan elders, Izanami, Minato and Kurosanai. Izanami took a seat in the middle of the five seats placed at the head of the hall while Minato took the seat to her left. Kurosanai was left standing in front of them, panting and sweating through his bandage wrapped body.
“As you know we have been debating as to who would take leadership of the clan. We have came to a decision,” Izanami stated confidently. Kurosanai shifted nervously between his feet before she spoke again. “Our decision is that I will be the leader of the clan, taking over from my father’s footsteps.” Kurosanai was not sure how to react. Relieved that it was not him or concerned that the seemingly uncaring Izanami had taken over the clan.
“Forgive my rudeness but why tell me this on my own?” Kurosanai asked as he wiped some sweat from his forehead.
“We have brought you here because there was policy that my father instituted with you that I am ceasing as of today. My father believed that in order to properly cultivate you for success to represent the Muzai clan that he had to keep you caged within the compound.” Izanami started. This was well known to Kurosanai as he had grown increasingly frustrated with the idea of it. “I however do not agree with this policy. If you really are going to be the ‘Savior of the Muzai’ like all the members of the clan call you then you will be more than able to handle yourself out in the real world. So from this day forth you are now able to come and go as you please.” Izanami continued. Kurosanai could not help but display a wide stupid smile as the words sank into his mind. He was finally being gifted his freedom and by someone he never thought would do so. “I am commanding you however to enter the upcoming galactic tournament to bring prestige to the Muzai name. You tarnish our name in any such way and you might as well never return to these walls,” Izanami reinforced with a deadly tone.
“I would never dream of it. I won’t let you guys down. Thank you,” Kurosanai smiled as his lips were drawn to his ears. He turned and ran out of the building not even waiting to be dismissed. Pure happiness oozed from every pore and he cheered as he ran between the buildings. He was finally being let off his leash. Now he would be able to live life to its fullest.
