“LADIES AND GENTLEMEN WELCOME TO THE COLLISEUM IMMORTALLLLLLLLLLLL!” The voice rang out through the crowds, causing a tidal wave of applause. A literal tidal wave. Many were killed, and the games had to be postponed for a few days. When they resumed, the 72 contestants stood within the square fighting ring, all looking around at each other, eager faces mixed with determined faces, giving the air a note of urgency, a feeling that large things were about to happen to change the fate of the universe. Either that, or the really large guy in the back had passed gas. It was surely one of the two. The names of the contestants and who they were going to be fighting were called out, name by name in pairs of two. The contestants would then walk over to the other person, and stood together, there with their future opponent. Truffles name was called, followed by the name Ushan Delucca.
Truffle looked over at the man who responded to that name, and was surprised by what he saw. The man looked like a humanoid combination of a basset hound and a deer. He had no idea what the man was, but he was disconcerted with the fact that the large dog-deer-human was carrying what looked like a very sharp rapier. Truffle didn’t like blades, especially when they came to close to his fur. The wolperting, he would later learn that that was what the creature was called, looked over at him, and sniffed his nose, which seemed to have a lot of different mucus in it. The creature looked miserable. Truffle padded over to him, and cocked his head. The creature looked over at him.
So, you are to be my opponent?
Truffle nodded his head up and down, and Ushan pointed the rapier in his face.
That’s unfortunate for you. I happen to be the best swordsman in the world. You don’t really stand a chance in this contest. I won’t go easy on you because you’re young either. You’re going to have to give it your all if you hope to best me.
Truffle couldn’t really think of what to say, and if he had been able to, he wouldn’t have been able to say it. So instead he just shrugged. Ushan seemed to not like that very much. He turned and strode away from the Hoyo with an air of distinguished hostility.

Truffle was walking in the back of the arena, looking for Ninjin. He needed to see his friend before he fought this creature. Before he fought anything, really, he needed to see his mentor and friend and brother. He didn’t find him right away, instead bumping into another wolperting. He had never seen these creatures before in his life, and here all of a sudden they were turning up all over the place. They must have been incredibly skilled in the art of combat to have so many of them turn up at the arena. He snarled a bit at Truffle.
So you’re the one going up against Ushan? Well good luck with that. The only way you’re going to win is if it’s storming or something, and I highly doubt that that sort of thing is going to happen in a weather controlled place like this. Though his allergies did seem to be acting up. I wonder what kind of whether we could classify this as?
Truffle just cocked his head at this unusual creature.
Oh. I didn’t say that by the way. You didn’t hear any of that from me. I certainly don’t want to be the one to have told you what Delucca’s weakness is. Nope, you didn’t hear a word of this from me.
Truffle just shrugged, as he tended to do when people were trying to talk to them and didn’t realize that he wasn’t going to be able to say anything in return. He turned and walked away from this wolperting, though not without pocketing the useful information that the strange creature had given him. This could perhaps be useful in the battle.

Ninjin was waiting in a separate training room. Truffle walked in and tapped him on the shoulder and had to duck to avoid a swipe that he knew would come. Ninjin hated to be walked up on, but Truffle was so silent that unless he grunted or farted, Ninjin wouldn’t have known he was there. When he saw it was Truffle, Ninjin relaxed.
What are you doing in here? Shouldn’t you be getting ready for your fight against that dog thing?
Truffle shrugged and kicked the ground a little, some dust coming up. The Saiyan prince looked at him, a look of disbelief crossing his face.
You’re not going to tell me that you’re worried are you?
Truffle nodded his head, shrugging again and feeling somewhat low. He was worried that the sword was going to hurt him, and although he didn’t know by how much, he could tell that the wolperting was stronger than he. He didn’t want to admit that to himself, but he didn’t have a choice. The creature was stronger than him and that’s all there was to it. And he had that damned sword.
Listen, I know you don’t like swords, but that’s ok. All you have to do is disarm him. Get the sword out of his hands, and then what is he? He’s no longer the greatest swordsman in the world, that’s for sure. So don’t worry about it. You’ll do fine. Now leave, I have to get ready for my matches, and you have to go get ready to kick that dog things butt.
Truffle turned to leave, when he felt the Saiyan prince’s hand on his shoulder.
You’re going to win buddy. I have faith in you.
And with that, Truffle felt he could have taken on the world.

Truffle stepped out into the arena, his fists shaking a little. He had trained for this moment for months with Ninjin and with members of the royal guard, but he was worried about the sword. Ushan stood in the middle of the arena already, ready and waiting. He had his sword by his side, and was waving it around going “Ssst, ssst, ssst.” The sword seemed to be moving in fast motion, and Truffle could barely keep an eye on how fast it was going.
He walked up and stood across the ring from Delucca, and nodded his head, respectfully. Delucca nodded back and the bell rang for the match to start. Truffle hadn’t even moved when he felt a cut on his upper arm. To his disbelief there was blood trickling down it, from a cut that Delucca had just opened up. Truffle’s eyes went wide. This man was fast, faster than Truffle could believe. Before he could make a move, another cut appeared on his upper thigh. To him, it appeared as if Delucca hadn’t even moved.
I told you, Truffle, you don’t really stand a chance against me. I’m going to win this contest and to you it’s not even going to look like I moved.
Truffle looked at him bemused. This was going to be the hardest fight of his life. He couldn’t even see the wolperting when he moved, and he kept getting little cuts on his arms and legs from the creature. His mind raced, trying to find a way to restrain the seemingly super-speed having man. He heard a noise, a slight shift of weight from the wolperting, and shot his arm out. The effect was immediate. His fist caught the wolperting in the nose, and he landed on the floor. Truffle wasted no time in plunging his fist into the ground to cover it with a rock, but when he pulled it out of the ground, Delucca was back on his feet. He slashed his sword and Truffle held up the rock, the sword bouncing off of it. Truffle was worried. This beast was a tough one.
Delucca stepped back, to allow Truffle back to a full standing position. Then he zoomed in and whipped truffle’s cheek with the side of his rapier, not doing any real damage but doing enough to sting. The wolperting knew that he had this contest in the bag and was now just toying with Truffle, doing little bits of damage that soon started to add up to some serious fatigue. Truffle looked out into the crowd, where the entire royal family was watching him get his butt kicked by this creature.
He spotted Ninjin out there, and he could feel the disappointment radiating off of him. Everything that they had trained for was for nothing, and here was Truffle losing to a dog-deer with a sword. The look in Ninjin’s eyes said it all. Truffle was going to lose this fight, and Ninjin was going to lose respect for him.
Truffle roared, shaking some of the pillars of the coliseum. Ushan looked startled, and red began to color Truffle’s fur. He couldn’t control it, the rage was pouring out of him. He wouldn’t lose like this. He had to win this battle, not just for himself, but for the sake of his friend and prince Ninjin. He wouldn’t disappoint him by losing this battle.
There was one problem though. Even with the huge power increase, Delucca was just simply too fast for him. The sword ripped against his fur, and Truffle let out a painful howl. Delucca smiled, still standing in the spot in the center of the ring.
Truffle charged at him, but he stepped aside just in time and held out his foot, tripping Truffle and sending him sprawling to the floor. Truffle was in disbelief. Was there anything he could do to beat this man?
Truffle.A voice rang out in Truffle’s head. And he looked from his point on the ground to where Ninjin was sitting in the audience. He knew that the voice in his head was Ninjin’s. Truffle, disarm him!
Truffle looked up, and Delucca was standing above him. Truffle shot up his foot and kicked the sword out of Delucca’s hand. He looked stunned, but reached down and punched Truffle in the face. Truffle saw stars for a brief moment, but spun his legs around and took Delucca down. Again, the wolperting was down for mere moments before shooting back up and getting into a fighting stance. Truffle was exhausted and Delucca seemed to still have everything left within him, aside from the sword.
Delucca charged at Truffle, hitting him with blows that seemed to come out of nowhere. Fists rained down upon Truffle as he did his best to block them. Some he was able to fully block, and others hit him powerfully in the head and torso. This man was seemingly unbeatable. There was no weather to cause him weakness….He thought back to talking to Ninjin about this battle. Was there anything in the conversation that he could use? He kept thinking about the words, but Truffle never said any words. What about the actions in the conversation? He had shrugged, kicked up dust, started to leave—
Dust.
That was it. He looked over at Delucca, who looked the same as he had in the beginning of the battle. He slammed his fists into the ground, rocks forming over them.
Didn’t you already try that?
Delucca came closer to Truffle, and Truffle slammed the rocks together, causing a cloud of dust to arise. Delucca stepped into it and sneezed. Truffle smiled. That was it. That was how he would win this battle. He slammed his fists back into the ground again and slammed the rocks together. He repeated this action over and over until the entire arena was a cloud of rock dust. He could barely make out the shape of Ushan and he was sure that Ushan could barely see him as well. In fact, Delucca kept sneezing. He darted toward the wolperting and punched him in the gut. There was an immediate reaction, with Ushan bending over.
Truffle kept on this hide and seek assault until it seemed that Ushan was one blow away from being put away completely. Truffle jumped into the air and brought his large fist up in the air, and superman punched Delucca square in the face and that was it. The battle was over and Truffle had won.
He walked away from the ring exhausted but proud. He looked back at the audience, yelling and stomping there feet and yelling his name. He looked over at Ninjin, and was unused to the look on his face, though he knew what it was. Pride.
Truffle looked over at the man who responded to that name, and was surprised by what he saw. The man looked like a humanoid combination of a basset hound and a deer.
