‘This place is enormous!’ Was the first thought that struck Glace as she disembarked from the ship which had transported her to her new home. The flashing lights shining from the towering buildings of the city provided a dull luminosity to the area. In the sky above the stars could be seen clearly, smiling down on the haven for the Icejin race. As she hadn't had much baggage beyond a simple backpack which held all her possessions, Glace didn’t have to stick around long and ventured boldly forth into the city. “If mom and dad could see me now….”
-Flashback-
“I am your father and you will respect me!” The large orange skinned Icer yelled out as his hand lashed out at Glace’s face, his features contorted with rage.
Her arm shot up and intercepted the blow before it could land, and she returned the death glare her father was shooting her way. She looked to the side and saw her mother standing off to the side, doing nothing as usual. With her smooth lime-coloured complexion and petite features, Snow could have landed a lot better than him. Glace never said this, but it was quite clear that was the case. She took her attention off of her mother and back on the one whom she increasingly was unable to stand. Glacier, her father.
“Respect you? When have you done anything worthy of my respect! You’re a lazy, violent slob who can’t even provide for his family!” Ripples of force came from the contact point between the two Icers as Glace pushed outward with her arm, brushing away Glacier’s effort to resist. The older Icejin stumbled backwards and his outrage only soared as a result of this. He grabbed onto a tableside to steady himself, warping the metal.
Glace stood shaking in place, restraint still in place as she resisted the urge to capitalize on the opening on offer. While she may have said that she held no respect for the man, he was at least afforded some due to biological ties, perceived failures aside. Ignoring the angry tears that threatened to burst out, Glace took in a deep breath before speaking in as calm a tone as she could muster.
“I’ve gotten a lot stronger than you remember father. I don’t need your protection anymore, and there’s nothing for me here. Goodbye.” She caught a glimpse of the shock, horror and sadness coming over Snow and the contrasting livid appearance of Glacier before speeding out the door. Any more time wasted there might have affected her better judgement.
-End-
“Well maybe just mom.” She muttered as she gently pushed off of the ground and soared over the streets. While her upbringing may have been poor compared to the Icejin raised near the heart of the empire, the ability to fly hadn't been missed.
As proved typical for a port, there was an almost disconcerting amount of brothels around. Glace did her best to ignore the flashy signs of Icejin females in risqué positions as she flew on. The brief tourism pamphlet she’d read hadn't been very clear on where you had to go to get work. There had to be a job agency or recruit office for something somewhere!
But would they be open at night? Glace groaned as the realization hit here that she may have to wait an additional 6 hours before getting anything done.
“Maybe it’ll be good to get some sleep first?” She doubted this very much.
