A gust of wind breezes through the crevasses of the mountain range, its tender kiss wasted on the cheeks of an artificial being crafted from its biological remains. His green saber buzzed into action, intercepting that of his adversary's. They glanced at each other, locked steady in that fugitive period in which they exchanged breaths. From the moment his cold black eyes awakened to the world, dull as the dirt he stood on, he had been surrounded by his own kind. Even now; the ground he stood on, the pillars of rock drafting the mountains, the scorching wind, the sunlight reflected on his fair skin, even the warrior clad in armor that remained an obstacle, they were all nothing but cheap simulations of reality. The only living beings he associated with on a daily basis were the scientists spectating through a monitor in an isolated room.
The masked fighter parried the energy blade and rammed the heel of his foot onto the android's chest. His body was then driven skidding over the dirt with a trail of dust clouds in his wake until a large boulder protruding from the ground brought him to a screeching halt. His figure was indented into the boulder and he rest, hanging in the comfort of his small little frame. Even as the enemy approached to follow up the previous attack, he did not move. The scientists huddled up on the screen, each harboring their own conclusions explaining and justifying his performance. Perhaps it was the heavy weights which limited and burdened his movements, stopping him from reacting in optimal time. Maybe the intense gravity was starting to take its toll, just like the patient waters as even a single drop -if persistent enough- can wear down a stone. Not a single one considered that perhaps he let himself get hit. It would not be the logical course of action, there was nothing to gain from allowing yourself to become subjected to another's attack. Even so, he remained rested, only now raising his head to observe.
He replayed the scene in his head; from the wind blowing against his face, to the clash between their blades, the kick to his chest to the rush of his body moving away on its own and the collision against the hard molten rock. He saw it, he acknowledged it and his opponent acknowledged his existence. The scientists acknowledged his existence. Yet, although his body reacted to the events unfolding before him, he could not feel anything. His body was held like a cross on the stone yet he could not really feel the stone brushing against his skin. All he processed was an impending obstacle occupying a space he could not. In a way, he himself was a simulation as-well.
He remembered his first conversation as if it had been yesterday. The only thing he remembers is his name, "Man". Regardless, they insisted that he was nothing but an imitation of man, a lifeless android with no will of his own, no heart or mind of his own, everything he thought he knew and all the ideas which seemed to have come from his own perceptions -they were all predetermined by the scientist's programming and the notion of "Man" was but the product of computing error and mortal flaws. As a result, he was dubbed "Zero", a name as empty as his past. But what did it mean to be alive? Maybe, he thought, they could be wrong. But how could he think that when all the signs pointed otherwise. How could he think that when his chest was silent.
The masked warrior hovered over the android with an imposing glare. He arched up his sword and thrust. Zero closed his eyes. It's just a simulation, he thought. He could not really feel pain. His body only jerked through the motions, shaking with each thrust of the blade, slowly embedding him deeper into the boulder. The edge grazed over his body as sparks jolt from the impact. Model Zero was made of tough material built to withstand hazardous conditions. Even the blade of his opponent aided by the intense gravity was not enough to blatantly slice through him, where it would pierce another like butter. The scientists exchanged worried glances at each other. "Did he malfunction?" one of them asked. Fear struck them, they didn't want to have to explain to Ivan that their prized science project broke down, and they wouldn't want to explain it to Lord Zex or King Arctic after all the funds they invested on the tin can.
Model Zero finally opened his eyes. The simulated fighter had not stopped its onslaught, he continued to strike the android incessantly. Zero examined his body, realizing the effects were much more prominent than he thought. The color of his armor was beginning to white-out and bits of his helmet were chipped off. During that last strike, Zero raised his forearm and blocked the attack. Zero watched sparingly as the blade of the warrior's sword sunk an inch into the red gauntlets. A moment after, the emerald gem on his forehead began to radiate, and as a result cast his android barrier expanding at a five feet radius around its core. The barrier demolishes the area surround him, freeing him from his confinement in to the boulder and reducing it to rubble in the ground.
His opponent was also forced to take distance, but it was short lived as he lunged forward as soon as the barrier dissipated. Zero only just touched land with the tip of his toes before the enemy was upon him, but he was able to deflect the first strike with a swift thrust of his blade. Teal sparks went airborne like plasma, painting their surroundings as the two engaged in a series of rapid strikes, deflecting one another each time. Only a few blows managed to sneak past each other's defenses and nudge their balance if only slightly. But the two swordsmen suck it up and continue without a second thought spared to the matter. After all, Model Zero was half mechanical and -as far as he knew- the masked warrior hid under his plate of armor. The two ricochet in an awesome display of skill and speed; attempting to go faster than the other, stronger than the last, precise and acute. Their feet would not budge from their spot. They were bolted to the ground, leaving only their waist and up to dance and twist with the blades and dodge the long lunges, parry the diagonal thrusts and deflect the tricky side-slashes.
Before long, Zero overwhelmed the masked swordsman. An upward thrust of the energy blade thwarted his opponent, rendering him defenseless for mere seconds in which the android ingrained the tip of his sword into the ground and lift diagonally to hurl the dirt into his adversary's face. The swordsman grunt with contempt; his vision hampered to no avail, leaving hi wide open and vulnerable to Zero's attacks. The android promptly arched his blade behind his back to gain moment and power, pushing on-wards, his saber pounds onto the fighter's obliques. The coerce impact lifts him off his tethered feet and flings the warrior darting beyond the premise. Model Zero prowls closely after his fleeting victim. His sword drawn out to impale the masked warrior thereafter his collision with a nearby mountain. His body dug into the rocks much like Zero had earlier, shaking the ground from within a mile's radius. Howbeit, the man faded without delay moments before Zero was upon him. The android missed, burrowing headfirst through the crust and shattering the massive heap from the inside-out. The boulder was soon-after reduced to rubble cascading from the raging heavens.
Then, the masked swordsman reappears from behind, arched back with sword overhead in a double grip. Zero's scouter goes off, an annoying but urgent beeping sound indicating that he was about to get thrashed. Unfortunately, the android was still airborne and defenseless; consequently, he fell victim to the full brunt of the warrior's backhanded tactics. The swordsman threw his hands down and clobbered the android directly in the back. Man's body jerked in response and scampered across the jagged ground. Spinning with the fall, he regains control over his body and jumps back into his feet after a swift flicking motion of the legs. Man advances to retaliate before the man reached the ground. Their swords clash midway, a shock wave ransacks the area and blows them apart but they keep coming back for more.
The masked warrior sweeps across the dirt, gliding under Zero's feet as he jumps over. Evidently, another attempt to put him at a disadvantage since they had little to no mobility in the air. The swordsman fades and reinstates behind the airborne android with an impending slash attack. However, Zero was small and nimble, although he was limited in the air, he had a series of aerial tricks up his sleeve. With a few twists and jerking motions, he was able to rotate his body in time to intercept the incoming attack with his own blade. Both fighters touched land at relatively the same time and lunged at each other just the same.
The masked swordsman, running towards Zero, gripped the handle of his blade tightly and performed a somersault airstrike. Harnessing the power of gravity and momentum, the strength behind his attack was enhanced tremendously. Too bad Zero was much too fast. The android dashed, enveloped in that scarlet light which trailed behind him and passed right through the man like a ghost. The swordsman's blade continued to the ground, causing it to corrode and burst from the seams. Model Zero, having fazed right past his defenses, turned in short notice and whipped the man across the line of his back. The fighter remained stunned and paralyzed for which it gave Zero time to follow up. Model Zero slams the man with his sword once again, this time propelling him several feet.
Man raised his free arm and watched his hand collapse into his wrist, revealing a cannon known as the Hell's Flash. The little holes around the rim of the cannon light up one by one, accompanied by an uprising sound. Then, the hollow of the center glimmers to life -powered by the smaller dots and conglomerates into a single sphere which is then expelled from the wrist in a vast beam of concentrated energy. The wave roars as it races across the battlefield, vanquishing the shadows of every corner with its brilliance and devastating the land as it conquered. In a flash, upon contact with the masked warrior, the energy wave burst into a big bang of epic proportions, blowing off the tips of mountaintops and whatnot.
Suddenly, everything went quiet. A thick cloud of debris rest over the area, making it impossible for anyone to see the anything. Zero lowered his arm and had his hand reform where it belonged. It was then that his scouter started beeping again, and before he knew it, the masked warrior was upon him. Crashing down like hawk with sword stretched ahead, the swordsman dived down from the recesses of the dust. Man hopped backwards to dodge. The swordsman's blade hit the hard ground once again, bringing more dirt into the air. His armor was now half-shattered, revealing flesh and blood dripping out of his wounds. The masked warrior repeated the same action, dashing forward to impale Zero, but the android simply stepped back once again, and again, and again until they found themselves surrounded by various pillars of rock protruding from the ground -a perfect obstacle course to make things more interesting.
Model Zero maneuvered around the swordsman's techniques and made way up the vertical slope on the mountainous structure. He propped his feet over the rough edges and propelled himself higher. The masked warrior followed in pursuit, making the same steps as the other. Escalating mountains was a simple ability, but when constricted by heavy weights and hindered by the 35 times normal gravity, Zero had a lot of weight on his shoulders. It wasn't too difficult for his adversary to catch up and threaten to ram him against the stoned walls. Model Zero turned to face his opponent as he rises above and dashes past him, leaping from one pillar to the next. The swordsman missed and severed the consolidated rocks. Shortly after, he follows after Zero once again, leaping across towards the other pillar. The fighter thrusts his blade, Zero counters and dashes to the next pillar. The masked warrior props the soles of his feet against the hard rock and launches himself like a rocket, Zero does the same. The two pass by each other, midair, midway between pillars and slide their blades along its sharp edges. The battle had become aerial -somewhat-, although none of them could fly, they used the pillars surrounding them to support their footing and keep them high in the sky as they continued to gradually escalate the mountains while deflecting each other's attacks.
Their movements were so stealth-like, agile and fast, a spectator could only witness periodical white flashes of light produced by the friction of their blades clashing into one another. Ching! Clink! Clank! the sound of metal hissed in the dark valleys, illuminated by its sudden sparks. At last, the masked warrior managed to pin Zero against the wall once again with his sword pressed across his chest and just below the neck as they stared into each other's eyes. Zero released himself similarly as before with his android barrier, crumbling the rocks confining him and pushing his opponent aside. The swordsman was now free-falling at the very center with nothing to grab onto and launched a series of energy blasts. Zero did his best to dodge and block them all, but with limited space he was eventually caught and dragged down with him. At such a high altitude the stakes were high and he might as well indulge it. Model Zero planned on using his enemy as a stepping stone to make it back to the rocky mountains, and his opponent was probably thinking the same thing. The moment they got within sword's length, the two orbited around one another unleashing various strikes and thrusts.
The masked warrior finally manages to grapple Zero and begins to mount his feet over his chest. Regardless of his efforts, the android quickly latches his hands around the ankles and reels him back in; in turn, attempting the same thing. They pushed and pulled, struggling against each other's will to save themselves from the perilous fall. Then, Model Zero's gem began to glow. Slowly, the man began losing his will to fight as the android sucked away all his energy for his own. As soon as his hands became limp, Zero propped his feet against the other's chest and jumped to safety while propelling him headfirst into the ground. Nobody could have survived such a fall from so high under similar circumstances. Even Zero was beginning to fall apart with all the blows he had taken and yet he was not tired. He did not feel the sharp intense pain others did, which allowed him to fight without hindrance in the most dreadful situations. Even if he had fallen, unless his legs been crushed in the process, or some other vital component of his body, even then Zero would have stood up ready to continue the fight. However, the simulation was now over.
