As the dream world takes over Leke’s subconscious, images of Saiyans and aliens alike flood the sleeping teenager’s visions. He finds himself floating through a sea of moving pictures of both smiling faces and bloodied corpses. A few in particular stood out to the Prince, memories that came back to him: a group of rebels he had cleared out when he was younger, despite his father’s wishes; the plant-like merchant he had saved just days prior – he was in danger of losing everything, and Leke had stopped the thugs in their tracks. He was so grateful that he had given the prince a jade pendant, which he could see now in his dreams as a burning star upon his neck.
All of this was getting to be too much for the poor child. Death and light swirled about him; images of playing and laughing children and the sick and elderly in hospital beds. What did all of this mean? What did any of it mean? The images seemed to lead to one particular event in a timeline, if this was truly his past, and it made Leke’s heart race. The tournament. He had done alright, but when he had fought Snow, the Icejin…
Leke woke up clutching the necklace, now warm and illuminating the area around him in a luscious green glow. He was amazed by its splender, but his curiosity is piqued by the mysterious glow. It was not illuminated previously. What made it glow? For a few moments, all of his worries dissipated, staring into the gem put his mind at ease, as if it assured him everything would be alright.
The light shined even brighter, extending Leke’s vision to the street level. Looking down, he hadn’t even noticed it had gotten dark. The Hattori boy didn’t know it got dark on Alpha Prime, but he soon figured out why – the artificial lights had been out. Thinking out, they were out before. Just goes to show that he was really out of it when he got there.
A woman’s cry pierces the air and immediately puts Leke on alert. Almost in perfect sync, the amulet flickers, though Leke is not even paying it much attention now. Allowing the jade to rest upon his chest once more, Leke flips up into the air and scans the area with his eyes and his senses. Just beyond the green glow of the amulet were several power levels surrounding one much-weaker one. Leke’s power flared up as he quickly moved to intervene in whatever was going on – it couldn’t possibly be good!
It took but a split second for Leke to practically teleport with his blinding speed to the group of powers, where it had just been near pitch black before. Now, his amulet illuminated the entire area, and he could clearly assess the situation. Six burly-looking men and aliens of all sorts were circled around one young blonde woman, but the teenager could not clearly see any of their faces. The woman was sobbing, and the ruffians were closing in on her before finally noticing they could see much better than they could before. Each one turned about and looked at the Royal Saiyan.
Leke’s face scrunched up in anger. How dare they pick on this poor woman? His aura flared even further, providing even more light than his amulet did as he grew madder.
”I’ll give you one chance to leave her alone,” he stated. The ruffians turned and looked at each other, and merely laughed. It was obvious they could not sense power levels – they had zero chance against Leke, even with both arms tied behind his back.
”Oh yeah, tough guy?” one, who appeared to be the leader, snickered. ”What are you gonna-“ he began to ask, but was cut off by Leke flashing forward and delivering a solid kick straight into his face, smashing his nose and sending him flying back several dozen feet and onto his rear. The man howled in pain and held his now-broken and bloody nose with both hands. He pointed a bloody hand at the Hattori teenager and nasally said, ”Ger ‘em, boys!”
They were hesitant at first, leaving Leke to just stare them all down. He knew they didn’t want to, but the boss had told them to… So, reluctantly, one charged forward at him, leaving the rest to follow suit. The amulet flickered again, this time much more visibly, halting everybody’s progress. Even Leke looked down at his chest, trying to figure out just what this jade necklace did.
The Hattori looked back up at the men. ”Do you really want to fight? You each get one chance, or you end up like your boss.” They looked at each other, and then the bloodied-faced man on the ground, then back at Leke. Almost in complete unison, they scampered off into the darkness, far enough to where their power levels faded away from Leke’s short-range sensing. The amulet seemed to respond in kind, and its glow diminished to a soft illumination several feet around the teenager.
Just the woman – and besides the boss sitting in awe of Leke and in pain – and Leke remained. Knowing full well the man would not bother her anymore, Leke powered down once more, letting his aura dissipate. He slowly approached the woman, who was now looking at Leke not in fear but in awe. Getting closer to her, pictures of the hospital room and rejuvenation tank flooded back to him. Who was this lady?
She was certainly a beauty. The blonde smiled at him and straightened her jacket. Only now did Leke notice her clothes, resembling that of a doctor. A light bulb went off in the fourteen-year-old’s mind. His doctor from the tournament!
”Thank you,” she said softly to her savior. Leke looked at her and smiled back. The man, still sitting down clutching his broken nose, snorted a little bit, but coughed up the blood that had shot down his nose - Leke shot him a glare that sent him scurrying away, not wanting to be on the receiving end of another one of his attacks.
Leke turned back to the woman, who he could now observe much better now that the area was calm. The amulet faded to near nothing, leaving her only to get closer to stay within the light. Leke gulped but stayed his ground and allowed her to stand within a foot away from him. Here, the glow showed every detail of her facial features and body. It was clear to him she was not even close to middle-aged, but she was no teenager either. He’d venture to guess she was somewhere in her mid-20s, based on what he knew about humans.
”I-It’s no problem,” Leke stuttered, blushing slightly, emotions beyond rage returning to him. He had little experience dealing with women because his days were spent honing his physical skills, not talking. The doctor smiled even wider and playfully punched him in the arm.
”Prince Leke, right? It’s impressive that you’re already up to full strength. Something about you Saiyans just won’t keep you down. Good thing I got you back to that tank,” she commented back, referring to the near-death situation he was in after his bout with Snow in the tournament. All of a sudden, images flooded back to him, a stop-motion of what he had remembered before, and his feelings before he had dozed off. It caught his heart in an odd way – being torn between elation for saving this woman, the doctor who saved his life, and depression for not knowing his own purpose.
”W-we’re even, then. B-but I never caught your name, Doctor...?” Leke retorted, a smile forming on his face but the red hue not fading from his cheeks. The doctor retrieved a light from her handbag and turned it on, illuminating the area around them in a wide range. She quickly leaned in and gave him a peck on the forehead and stepped back.
”Fletcher. But you can call me Kiera. I am so grateful that you were here, Leke. You seem really cut out for this saving-people stuff. I do need to get going, though. Maybe I’ll see you around,” she said to him, winking before turning and walking away before Leke had a chance to think of anything to say. His face was tomato-red and body was shaking. It was about a full minute before his mind could process what just happened. Perhaps it was something about his teenage boy feelings, but he definitely felt happier than he had been in a long time. Something about the word “grateful” rang in his mind; the merchant had said the same thing. Grateful. And he had felt the same then: just happy he could help out.
Leke was not like the rest of his family – they trained brutally to become stronger, to become the best, to defeat others. They each had varying personalities that kept them clashing with each other, but Leke had common ground with each that made him a sort of chain between them all, especially Akassa and Ninjin. He spent more of his time in public than the others, but not in royal uniform – he did not draw attention upon himself if he could help it. The youngest Hattori would help out the commonfolk and play with kids his age in the streets, trying to relate to them. He was so much more peaceful and mindful of others than his siblings, and he felt like he had a connection with them. Disregarding his prince status, he still felt an obligation to protect his people and his family, despite his weakness.
Leke smiled as he realized what he was to do now, and he had this Kiera Fletcher woman to thank for it. His problems dissolved as relief washed over him. Akassa and Ninjin trained to fight, and that would make them great generals. But Leke, how would he protect his people, those who he grew up with almost as much as he had grown up with his own siblings? He would train, get stronger, faster, and smarter, all for them. The good in him would not allow him any other option.
With his newfound drive, Leke found himself much more calm. His senses became much more attuned to what was going on around him – like the fact that his amulet light had now died. Looking down at his chest, Leke knew what he was to do next. Ascending to his full power and allowing his body and the area to be bathed in a red-and-gold aura, the Prince took off into the skies, one hand clutching the warm amulet dangling on his neck. He needed to know…
