“Well now this was interesting.” Dr. Drake said looking over the blood results he had just gotten in. “Very very interesting.”
****
Nasu left the war council his head spinning. That was not in the least what he expected. He had gone in there assuming Tsuyo was going to reveal to everyone who he was and then have him killed, captured, imprisoned and tortured. Something generally along the lines of unpleasant, instead they called him in for a war council with Ninjin, Akassa, Leke, Zeke, and what appeared to be one of the guards who judging from her power level must be one of the elites he’d heard about.
He had believed he was about to be reprimanded for knocking out the guards before everything went to hell, or at least certainly for threatening Tsuyo. But instead he was met at a table where people asked his opinion on what they should do next. Apparently saving two royalty made up for threatening to kill one.
Being brought into a council like that might have been Tsuyo’s way of extending an olive branch, it might have been the queen’s idea since Nasu saved her, it might have been a way for the family to keep an eye on him, it might have been a subtle threat by Tsuyo that he was in control and could reveal him at any moment. He honestly had no idea what it meant, he just knew it freaked him out.
Honestly if he hadn’t seen his friend Zeke there as well he still wouldn’t believe it. In reality for all of his boasting in his mind about how he was going to kill the king, finally get revenge on Tsuyo for what he’d done, this was the first time he’d seen the man in the better part of a decade. Ten years and he hadn’t seen him once. Today he had seen him twice and the most he did was whisper threats, and glare at him across a table. It made him question just how dedicated to his vision was he really? He claimed he’d been living his life up to now to get revenge on Tsuyo. Growing stronger only for the purpose of one day challenging the man and killing him as he had killed Nasu’s mother. But what plans had he actually put in motion to kill the king? What had he done at all to push himself towards his goal.
Admittedly the fact that he’d met his family and genuinely liked all of them didn’t help. Could he orphan Leke, force the crown on Ninjin so soon, take Akassa’s only family away from her? Still lost in his own thoughts he nearly bumped into the doctor.
“Oh, I’m sor- Oh shit doc!” Nasu said realizing he had just nearly knocked over the man responsible for healing him after he got blown up and knocked out of the palace. Granted the man had been extremely creepy but that was no excuse to be an ass to him, on top of that he hadn’t even said thank you to the man who in all likelihood saved Nasu’s life. For his part the doctor seemed just as surprised to see him. Though the surprise quickly turned to glee judging from the ear to ear grin that grew over the man’s face.
“Doc, I uh. I wanted to say thanks for you know, saving my life and everything.” all and all not his best speech, but hell it got the point across. Nasu was grateful the doc had saved him, now he could leave the palace with a clean conscience and hopefully never see the creepy little man again. He had just started walking away when the doctor stopped him.
“Just the man, I was looking for actually. Nasu correct?”
“Yes, Nasu Nun. I really have to get go-”
“Did you know Nasu,” he said taking a piece of paper out of his jacket pocket, “that Nun translates to no one?” the look he gave Nasu worried him immensely but he couldn’t finger why exactly.
“I uh, yea I did know that actually.” Nasu said honestly, in reality he had changed the name himself not wanting to be associated with his family who didn’t want him. But it wasn’t something he ever told people.
“Oh but that name just doesn’t suit you.” the doctor said taking a step closer and again looking Nasu up and down in a manner that made him take a step back. “No I don’t think it suits you at all, you’re far from a no one. Nasu. As a matter of fact if I didn’t know any better, I would say you were a Hattori.” the doctor’s grin turned positively vicious. “Oh yes, Nasu Hattori, now that sounds right to me.”
Nasu stared at the man unable to believe he could know. It was impossible, no one knew. In his life he’d only ever admitted his parentage to one person and he knew Yakuin wouldn’t tell a complete stranger. How was this possible? No he was just guessing, he had to be.
“I’m sorry, I know it’s a strange name but it really is Nasu Nun. I know I look a little like Ninjin but that’s as far as the relation goes.” he tried to add a joke in to sell it “I wish I was a Hattori, though normally the palace would be in much better shape.” he even laughed at the end of his own joke in a what was now becoming a pathetic effort really.
“You know for a first effort, Nasu that felt really last ditch.” the man said pushing the piece of paper he had been reading into Nasu’s hands. Looking down though he couldn’t make heads or tails of it.
“Oh I’m sorry I forget sometimes not everyone knows everything I do. HA one the left half of that piece of paper is the DNA from Akassa Hattori, the poor girl lost an arm earlier, and had to have it replaced. Some blood was sent down to me to analyze make sure she was healthy. You’ll be happy to know your half sister is as healthy as can be, isn’t that good news.”
Nasu just stared up at him still not fully comprehending what was in front of him.
“Oh my boy I expect better from you in the future, on the left side of that page is your own DNA, when you came in here this afternoon you were a mess. Just dreadful. We patched you right up though. And look at you know, good as new. We even got some of your blood to make sure that young Nasu “Nun”’ He said emphasising the last name. “was as fit as a fiddle. And so you are. It was only at the Queen’s orders you know that we healed you. And look at that, at her orders she found another of Tsuyo’s bastards.” he pushed past Nasu and started walking away. “Oh I think she needs to know that she has another adoptable child immediately! Don’t you?” he stopped and turned towards Nasu something else clearly in mind.
“I can kill you, you know that right?”
“Oh my boy you should know better than that. If you kill me I’ve made arrangements, this note will reach the queen within an hour of my death. And she can read this paper a lot better than you can. As a matter of fact I expect she’d know what it meant almost instantly, another strong saiyan fighting for HER son’s throne. That would just make her so happy don’t you think?” the bastard had the nerve to grin again.
He remembered how Natisha had treated Akassa, he remembered the joy she showed publicly when she saw Akassa’s arm torn off. The lies and subtle ways the queen tried to manipulate everything around her against the bastard child.
Unlike Akassa however Nasu didn’t share the protection Tsuyo’s public acknowledgment granted her. Friend’s with Ninjin or not, saved her life earlier or not, if Natisha found out and thought he was a threat she’d have him killed. Quietly, with no fanfare, she struck him as the kind of person to poison his food or cut the lines on his ship so he just drifted into space never able to return.
“You win.” he said quietly.
“Oh? What was that? I couldn’t hear you boy?”
“I said you win. What do you want?”
“Fabulous, I just love winning.” he said clapping his hands as if he’d just won a game. As if the deck hadn’t been rigged from the very beginning. “But you raise a wonderful question Nasu Hattori. Or as you prefer to be called, Nasu Nun. And if you wish to remain Nasu Nun you will listen carefully. What I want is you.”
“I’m sorry what?!” he said unable to hide his shock.
“Not like that you idiot.” the doctor said dropping his excited facade. “You may not know this but not everyone on this planet is as strong as you are. And the smarter ones among us are not always appreciated as we should be. On a world where might makes right being the smartest amongst the apes doesn’t always pay off the way it should.” Nasu’s blood boiled at the racial slur the man had dropped so casually. To call the saiyan’s apes was an invitation to fight, he could sense the doctor’s energy, one punch would be all it took to to finish him off. But then the letter would reach Natisha on top of that something about this seemed wrong, almost as if the doctor were intentionally goading him. Nasu relaxed the fists he didn’t even know where bunched up sensing the trap.
“Good boy.” the doctor continued smiling again now. “Maybe you’re not as stupid as I originally took you for. You will be able to help me, you will be able to help me greatly. From now on you work for me. You can continue to play with your little mercenary group but when I call you run. Is that understood?”
“I understand.” Nasu was trapped, no matter how he tried he couldn’t think of a way out of this. There had to be something he could do, there was always something he could do, but this time it appeared the doctor had him cornered. Any action he took would leave him open, reveal his secret and would wind up with him face down in a gutter dead. The doctor must have seen the look of defeat and panic on his face because he tried to comfort him.
“Don’t worry boy. The job will still pay you. It would look odd if I didn’t pay my new...intern. Yes my new intern.” with that he handed Nasu a pager. “As long as you answer this every time I call the queen never has to know. No one ever has to know.” he said tearing the piece of paper in half neatly dividing the two siblings on the page. With that he patted Nasu on the back and walked away.

Drake laughed to himself at how easy it had been. The boy didn’t have much choice but he practically walked into every bait and trap he had set. And now for the first time Dr. Drake had solid muscle to back him up no matter what he chose to do. What a relief, what supplies he could buy now without risking getting murdered by some thug trying to con him. On top of that he now had a chip to play with the queen. Elevation to dealing with the royal family was at stake. For now Nasu was more valuable to him as a living asset but should that value ever decrease...Well Natisha was not notoriously kind with people invading her family. And she would surely reward him for the information. Pulling an identical piece of paper to the one he had ripped up in front of Nasu out of another pocket he laughed. He knew it was cliche for a scientist to laugh when one of his plans went well but he couldn’t help it. Everything he had ever worked for was starting to come within reach, all thanks to Nasu Hattori.
