"Next in line!"
The young alien called out. The line was rather extensive and Itan was more than pleased with it. Ever since his release of "The Legend of Saito Kito Vol I" Itan found himself rolling in the Zeni. The book had made him more money that he had ever received from Tundra in his time working under him. The downside was the fact that no one would publish the book as a work of non-fiction. There were simply too many unbelievable factors that no one would consider even remotely possible. A giant building floating above the clouds? A group of superhumans defending from an alien monstrousity? No, none of that seemed possible. Nevertheless the book had received a cult following, and Itan was smart enough to profit off of it. He sat behind the table at his local Bins and Hollows signing each book that passed by him. The hard covers were his favorite. They included his artistic visions as well. The paperback addition did not include his illustrations, which some would consider a good thing. The alien made for a fine writer, not so much an illustrator.
"Thank you for purchasing! Keep a look out for Volume two! Next in line!"
Itan had said the same thing to each customer, this one however stayed in one place, his shadow eclipsing the author. Waiting a few moments before looking up he found that the hulking individual wasn't going to leave.
"Listen buddy I...Oh Master Kito!"
He said with a nervous enthusiasm. No one had planned for the book to become so popular, and no one intended it to be a work of fiction. Now standing before him was the very protagonist of his novel, and when those words left Itan's mouth, the entire crowd began to swoon. Believing it to be a planned stunt, they enjoyed every moment of it. Itan knew better. Saito wouldn't have left the dojo to attend a book signing, and the master looked less than pleased looking back and forth between Itan, and the crowd of incessant fans.
"What is this Itan? Why are all of these people here for your book?"
Saito's understanding of published literature was limited. He was not aware that Itan's publication would reach a national audience, and the fact that it had was unnerving. He didn't need all of these people reading about his exploits, and he certainly didn't need people thinking the crane school was a work of fiction. He had worked hard to insure that the school was properly advertised, and finally the student base was beginning to trickle in.
"Isn't it great!?" Itan replied, hoping to sway the masters current mood. "All these people love your heroic story. They pay top dollar for it!"
Saito nodded, looking back at the crowd. Many of them were fixed on the large man, some in disbelief that the character was real. Others were certain that this was an actor portraying the book character. Saito returned his gaze to Itan and replied.
"What exactly is top dollar"
Itan let out a devious grin.
"10 zeni for a paperback, and 25 for a hard cover!"
"I see, and they don't believe it is real?"
"No no no. Listen, what we do is special Master. They don't believe in the magic tricks and what not."
Saito nodded. The crowd did seem interested in his presence. The fact that they had all gathered to read about him was flattering. Picking up one of the hardcover copies he skimmed through it. He saw several illustrations including that of himself, Kurosunai, and Conri standing before the massive Tundra armada. He noted a poorly sketched Saito in his Phoenix state, and finally a dedications page in which he boosted Kuro for Fuhrer, and advertised the school. Itan had no way of knowing that such a thing would spark controversy in the political world. No one believed Kurosunai was capable of doing the things Itan's book claimed, and he certainly hadn't asked permission before writing them. It was obviously a work of fiction and nothing more. With that in mind Saito took the book, tucking it into his waistband and then addressing the crowd.
"My name is Saito Kito. I am a very real man of very real skill. While the works in these pages are glorified there is an ounce of truth to them. The Crane School offers enrollment to any willing to dedicate themselves to the art that is competetive fighting. I am also pleased to announce that Itan has offered ninety percent of his royalties to the betterment of the school!"
The crowd erupted into a roaring cheer as the devious smile on Itan's face faded into horror. Suddenly he barely had enough to cover the cost of publication. The crowd however seemed pleased with his generosity, and Saito no longer appeared angry. Leaning back over the table Saito spoke.
"Run your novels by me from now on. And thanks again for the donation"
With that the warrior pointed his hand to the sky and fired upward a small spirit gun. It was only strong enough to fly several feet in the air, and then explode as if a small fireworks display. The crowd would ooh and aww at the spectacle, and by the time they looked back down Saito would be gone. Itan had made a fair sum with his books, and the Crane school would benefit greatly from it. Perhaps next time he would remember to ask permission to use the likeness of all the characters mentioned.
(Zeni)
(It has officially been published the exploits of Kurosunai, Saito, Conri, Ethan, Buraddori, and even Kaladar. While the book was a work of fiction it can be picked up and read by anyone on the site and thus can be used as an in character excuse to locate the lookout, or know basic information about these players. More books to come.)
