His immortal last words. The delusions of a powerful woman. Saito was no coward, but then again who was left to decide? Being dead he didn't quite have a say anymore in the stories that would be told on Earth. Though his blast had killed no one, it had destroyed the lives of thousands. Many business owners were left without anything, hardly dust to remember their legacy. Saito was one of those business owners, his own school crushed under the weight of his enormous attack. He regretted that. Had he been able to fire a smaller attack he would have. Hindsight allowed him to know that the attack did little more than scrape the queen, so what had been its purpose?
No, he would have done the same thing. Everything. He would have fired the attack, and most of all he would have spared Akassa Hattori. He was not a murderer. He refused to stoop to such a level.
"You've had one hell of a life Saito"
Sekai's voice was a welcomed distraction from his thoughts. They had been walking through blackness for what seemed like hours. He was concerned with the battle on Earth. Sonya had gone after Conri. The Guardian was truly the Earth's final hope, and he had taken as severe a blow as the queen. Perhaps, he thought, Conri would have one of those magical beans as well. Yet another ironic justice of their plight. Saito shrugged.
"Seems short looking back. Twenty-eight is hardly a ripe old age"
The mentor let out a chuckle and put a heavy arm around his shoulder. It was as though Sekai were really there in front of him.
"No trick this time? I really am dead?"
The figure nodded although Saito was already well aware that he was dead. It was different from before. In his battle with Kemuri the pain he had stayed with him while he spoke with Sekai. This time, he felt free from the horrendous pain of death. Actually his death had been rather quick. Having his eye removed had been far worse and he had lived through that. Death was a little over hyped.
"I suppose all that’s left is for the coward to sleep"
He said mockingly. Nothing about what Saito had done was cowardly, and Sekai was quick to stop him. Turning to face the crane master his voice deepened.
"No. You are no coward Kit. I've been watching you from the day we met. You fought off Nyu even after I fell. You stood up against Kemuri when nobody else on the lookout would dare to. You trained and prepared for that Icer bastard to arrive and when he did you sent him back to wherever the hell it is he came from. Tundra never stood a chance"
"Alright I get it sek..."
"No! You don't get it. When the Saiyan Queen arrived you were the first sensible person to attempt to talk her down. You stood inches from her without as much as a shake. Saito you may not have had the power to kill her but you came damn close...actually...you did have the power to kill her. You could have done it. You could have killed Nyu for what he did to me. You could have asked the Fuhrer for the final blow against Kemuri. You could have sliced Tundra into a thousand pieces, and you could have sliced that bitch right through that black heart of hers. You have a power that most do not possess. Patience, forethought, and most of all...compassion"
Saito was quiet. Sekai was his friend, of course he would say those things. But his words were genuine. No matter how it ended, Saito had lived his life by a code, and he never once strayed from it.
"What now?"
"Now we part ways. For good this time"
Saito's eyes widened. Had he only seen Sekai just to have him torn away again? The thought was sickening. He had no one. Was that death? An eternity in blackness with nothing but his thoughts. He would go insane.
"I made my choice long ago Kit. I live in limbo. Most souls do. All of those underachievers of the world hang out here to be at peace. You on the other hand...you aren't done. Atop those stairs you will meet King Yemma, and if he sees in you what I do, I’m certain he will have a plan for you. He will send you to heaven with the rest of the heroes of old."
Heaven...He wouldn't say it, but Kit wasn't feeling very heavenly. His actions in the city had been overwhelming, and although there had been no casualties, the damage had been rather severe. He couldn't see himself going to heaven after that. He wouldn't say it, because he knew the alternative, and so did Sekai. If Yemma didn't feel the same way Sekai did, Saito would have a one way ticker to hell.
"Or you can do what the queen suggested. Be a coward and come stay with me and the rest of the peons too frightened to meet their fate."
Saito nodded. He looked to his left to find that a staircase had appeared out of what had once been a black mess. When he looked back to speak with Sekai, he was gone. The mentor had stayed only long enough to bid Saito farewell and meet him at deaths door.
"Thank you"
He said quietly. If Sekai thought there was more to the story, then Saito would believe him. He began the trip up the seemingly endless flight of stairs. The higher it rose the brighter the world around him got until a hue of orange and white surrounded him. A small door with the word JUDGEMENT written over the top faced the top of the stairs. With a steady hand he turned the nob and stepped through the door. What awaited him on the other side? Only God knows.

Heroes.
Villains.
Monsters.
Who was to define what made a creature into any of the three? Would the one making the distinction do so from all perspectives or from one, perhaps somewhere in between? To label as individual as any one of these was not something to be done casually. A hero might not live up to the expectations of his title or ultimately become the villain he seeks to destroy. The villain might only be traveling his dark path for righteous reasons yet if not careful become a monster himself. And the monster might appear as such to most, but could be the hero for those that understand it. Labels were not things to be assigned lightly.
King Yemma understood this better than most, his countless years at the Check-In Station and the powers that came with it allowing him a complex view of the Universe. At a time little sentient life had existed among the stars, but eventually creatures had evolved and advanced. With these advancements came the evolution of free will, the capability to make ones own choices in life based on the circumstances around you. While a great step forward in most cases such a thing gave birth to the choice to harm others as well as protect. What each individual chose was ultimately up to them. One might choose to take life and in that decision slay another that would have unleashed pain upon millions. On the other hand the very same action could take the life of a future bringer of justice. Free will was the ability to chose, but not always with accurate insight into the future.
Had Saito Kit's choices been the right ones?
Sitting at his desk, the solid mahogany supporting his elbows as he leaned forward, King Yemma looks to the door as the knob turns. When it opened in would step the blonde haired human that until recently had been the Master of the Crane School on Earth. He no longer possessed his physical form, but his soul took the same appearance. With one look at a soul Yemma was able to view the life it had led when in the material world, every event becoming part of his vast pool of knowledge. Saito Kit was no different.
"Welcome Saito, I am King Yemma and this is the Check-In Station. You may not know me, but I know quite a bit about you." The deep voice that belonged to the Ogre King pausing as he peers down at latest soul to pass through his office. "Tell me Saito, do you know why you are here?"

Entering the door, Saito found himself face to face with what was easily the largest man he had ever met. The red hue to his skin and voluminous hair made him quite intimidating, though even Saito's subconsious felt no fear. This man was not a danger to him. Not only because he was already dead, but because of his intentions. The man spoke, his voice quite loud due to his size, but calm in a manner Saito had not been expecting. He stepped forward, and when the man introduced himself as King Yemma, the Crane Master did the same thing he did to anyone who considered themselves a king. He bowed his head slightly in recognition and listened first. King's and Queen's usually preferred to do the talking, and this one was no exception. Although there was a difference between this King and the royalty he had known on Earth. This King was very real and indisputable. He asked Saito a very simple question, one that Saito had only a very simple answer for.
"I am Dead my lord. My heart cut from its chest in the ruins of Central City"
He knew very well why he was dead, and the irony was not lost on him. A swift slice with his Katana and he would still be alive. Mercy had been his downfall. He wouldn't tell the King that, there was no need to. He likely knew very well that for a few moments it was Akassa who would stand judgement. That is not what happened. Why had he added the location? Guilt likely. Saito was a good hearted man, and still his decision to attack Akassa with so much strength weighed on his mind. Sekai had instilled a bit of confidence in him, but the dissonance in his heart could not be ignored. He knew not if he had made the right decision, but one thing was certain. He was about to find out.

Yemma would let out a small chuckle in response. Like so many before him the blonde human had misunderstood his words.
"I ask of you know why you are here, not how you go here. You are here because you are to be judged for your actions in life, so that I may determine the next step in your journey. Tell me Saito Kit, was your life a fulfilling one or do you regret your death?" A loaded question really for a correct answer was all in the eyes of the beholder. If a life was lived to its fullest, there should be no regret when the end came. Yet, how could a person truly know they had done all they wanted in their life? King Yemma himself rarely knew this answer for most and when posed there was no wrong answer really, more a revealing of perspective to the ogre.
Shifting in his seat King Yemma would allow Saito all the time he needed to think over his answer. For many it came in seconds, emotion tied to words and making them quick to spill forth. Some though, took time to decide as they replayed their lives over so that they might redigest what they had been through in life. Yemma himself was a timeless being so waiting was of no consequence. Saito could answer in seconds or take days to answer, the choice was his.

Saito had indeed misunderstood. His face marked with a perplexed dissonance as the question rolled over within his mind. Had he any regrets? Well, one rather large regret still remained on Earth. He wished more than anything his attack had done more, but then again if it had he would be a murderer. Something he could not possibly allow himself to become. So no, he couldn't regret that. He regretted being unable to be there for his students now more than ever. Though he had taught Ethan a great deal, and assuming the survival of Conri, Kaladar, his brother, and even Sonya, they would be taken care of. So no he did not particularly regret that either. He regretted his inability to say goodbye to his friends and family. Delashano had bonded with the human and his passing would come as a decidedly painful experience for her. Though that could just be his ego talking, perhaps she wouldn't give a damn. Sonya would care though. His students would care. Ethan would care. No, the fact that they cared so much was a sign that he needn't tell them farewell, they already knew how much they meant to him. After a few moments of silence, his eyes glued to the fresh mahogony desk, the blond let out his answer.
"I have no regrets King Yemma. I lived my life with a code of conduct that I did not stray from. My death was the result of stepping outside of my responsibility, but it was unavoidable. Moments before my passing I knew exactly who I was, and I wouldn't change that. I couldn't. My only wish is that I could have done more, but that is no regret. I did my part, young as I may be."
It was the truth. He wished he could have done more, but extending his life another month or year would not have made any difference. The Queen of the Saiyans had come to Earth in search of a subservient land to call her own. She had to have known that was not what she would find. Saito had to die because the alternative was to never have fought at all. Even with caution he was outclassed. He did what he could, and all that he could. He always did and always would.
"Perhaps...A little more time with my students. They are in very capable hands, but that doesn't make leaving them any easier. I love them."
Saito had no children, and his only romantic relationship had lasted only a few days. He had nothing to compare this feeling to, this emptiness in his abdomin. A tear whelled in his good eye as he thought about it. Shaking his head once the drop fell and hit the ground. It had been the only tear he had shed over his passing, and would hopefully be the last. This was no time for tears. If he was to be judged, King Yemma knew more about Saito than he could have ever known about himself.

Saito's answer was met with silence and a timeless poker face. Yemma had long judged the souls of those coming to the Check-In Station and long ago became immune to the feelings of others. He understood them of course, for he was not an emotionless being, yet ultimately no individual was important enough for him to shed a tear. The Universe and all its realms were larger than any could fathom, perhaps even the gods, so why should King Yemma care for the tear that rolled down this human's cheek? To put it bluntly, he couldn't. He was to judge a soul on what he saw in it, not bend because his heart was soft. Saito Kit was to be judged on the same level as one such as Akassa Hattori, no matter how different their paths be.
"That is good to hear Saito. Love is a powerful thing, it can drive an individual to perform great deeds...or horrible ones. Tell me Saito, what do you think of Akassa Hattori? One day she will stand before me and be judged the same as you. How should the woman that took your life be treated when her time has come?" Until the day the half-saiyan found herself here, King Yemma was neutral in all aspects of what she did with her life. The facts were, Saito must have his own opinion of her, the individual that had killed him. Considering the blonde had chosen not to take her life, Yemma felt he knew the answer to the second question, but death often altered the mind.

The King had validated his feelings. His stone face hid the professional empathy he had for the warrior. It was appreciated. The blond warrior looked up, meeting the hard gaze of King Yemma with one of his own. He had to pull himself together if he hoped to make it through this. He was uncertain why the King continued to ask questions of him. Perhaps it was a test which implied that there was but a single answer for each. Saito felt that was not the case. His actions on Earth would speak for themselves, and no level of charisma would sway the judgement of his soul. Perhaps these questions were merely out of curiousity. That was doubtful as well. If the King wanted to know something he could probably dig through Saito's mind to learn it. Kaladar could feel the trueness of a person and their character, and that man was no God. Before him sat the closest thing to God Saito had ever come in contact with. Funny, he couldn't recall running into the church of Yemma. Regardless of the reasons behind it, Saito felt obligated to respond, though the answers certainly were not easy ones.
Especially not the last one.
Akassa was still on Earth. Her empire causing mass destruction on the planet he once called home. She had killed him in cold blood and would undoubtedly kill anyone else who stood in the way of her ambition. She was ruthless and cold. Yet Saito couldn't bring himself to say all that. Not because it wasn't true, but because there was another side to her as well. She had loyal followers, men whom would fight and die for her. She was, in a way, the same as his fuhrer whom he had grown to care for. Thinking hard on the matter, the realization hit the young master that Buraddori shared many of the same qualities that Akassa had. He too was ruthless, though only to the opposition. He had seen the King kill Kemuri, the traitor. A reasonable man could compare that death to the death of Saito Kito. Saito died because he had betrayed the decree of Akassa Hattori. While it was difficult to compare himself to someone so cruel, there was a similarity that he couldn't deny. He had been silent for too long now, it was time to answer.
"I could not begin to explain what possessed the Queen to act the way she did on Earth. What passions drove her to invade a peaceful ally. What anger broke her ability to reason with innocent lives. I cannot judge the Queen because I have not lived her life, experienced her joys and pains."
His fist curled, though not in anger. His frustration fell on his own words. He should be condemning her. She had taken his life, and threatened the lives of hundreds more. Thousands. Millions.
"When her time comes...When Akassa Hattori has to stand in front of the judgement desk, it will not be your words or mine that have any impact on her sentencing. Akassa will have to come to terms with her choices and reasons. She will have to live with them for the rest of her existence. Not you, or I, or anyone else for that matter could possibly convince her of anything else. I only hope that my death was enough to end her lust for conquest. I only hope that when this is all over, win or lose, she is at peace with what she has done."

King Yemma saw why Saito had not taken the life of the Saiyan Queen. Despite the obvious conflict they had found themselves in, the human had still seen her as an individual not matter how lost he might have thought she was. Such a kind heart and the understanding of others was no doubt why he had been able to draw people to his school. Yemma knew all about the people that looked up to the Crane School Master for his fighting prowess and character. Luckily those who called the school home had not become casualties of yet, but their ultimate fate was still unknown. The blonde before him was different than most. Many would regret not being able to stop the danger they had faced in their last moments. Saito understood he had given his all, it simply was not enough. He did not condemn the girl that had taken his life.
"Indeed she shall, all do. I see much Saito Kit and I see the kindness in your heart. Now, is there anything you would like to ask me or say before I pass my judgement? My knowledge has its limits, but I shall at least allow you to speak your mind. However, I make no promise of an adequate response." Leaning forward more upon his desk, the rich mahogany creeks under his wait as he peers down at the small human. If Saito had nothing left to say or no questions to direct at the ogre king, Yemma was prepared to pass his judgement. His word was final, no debate possible after it had been past. Whether the soul receiving the judgment was please or not, was no concern of the king. His word was always just.

Any final questions. Saito was interested in a great many things. In all honesty he had wanted a casualty list to ensure his friends and family were safe. He knew that was a long and hasty conversation. The King was no messenger, and to discuss every person to lose their life on Earth was an impossibility. It was probably better that he not know. His conscience was already already heavy with the destruction of central city. The first day Saito had set foot within its limits he had seen its skyline. The night sky filled with bright lights and loud noises. He had been certain that sleeping would be impossible. Yet, over a year later, his mind required the buzz in order to sleep peacefully. He had ultimately been the one to destroy his home. Then the words of Sekai came to mind. He had said that Saito was not yet finished, but judgement felt so final. As though his eternity would eventually fade into nothingness.
"My friend, and teacher. He met me at deaths door. He told me that despite all of this there was more for me to do. Whatever your decision King Yemma, I hope he is right. I know nothing of this after world, but if my time is truly unfinished I know you will send me in the right direction."
Having finally come to terms with his choices, it felt strange to think it would all be over. His body, though only a spiritual presence, remained. If his body remained, then too would corruption, deception, condemnation, and evil. Saito was by no means a hero, but if that was to be his purpose, he could find no nobler goal. The ogre King had made his decision, all that was left was to hear him out and see where the afterlife would take him. Reaching up, his fingers unhooked the dark patch from his right eye. Removing it, he found that he was just as blind in it as he had been before. The pure white orb darted from side to side in a vein attempt to see, but nothing. He didn't want to be sentenced with the patch on. Despite Buraddori's ability to pull off the hard ass look, Saito did not feel it did him justice. He would view this next step with both eyes, regardless of his ability to see.

"Perhaps your friend is right. That will be for you to discover. The words of others often have many meanings. Now, since you are prepared and have no questions of your own, I shall sentence your soul Saito Kit." Shifting in his chair, King Yemma's hand reaches for the gavel that he kept on his desk. While not made of rich mahogany, the instrument was massive, easily capable of crushing someone like Saito or any other human sized individual under its weight. Thankfully for many, it was no weapon, simply a tool. Clutching the handle with his massive fist, the ogre king's thick arm lifts. Arm suspended high above his desk the King looks to Saito, eyes locking with both of his regardless of the sight stolen from one.
"Saito Kit. For your chosen path in life and your desire to treat all you encounter justly, I grant your soul permission to heaven." With the gavel slamming down against the block, the sentencing was complete. As soon as the words had been confirmed by the thunderous bang, Kit would begin to feel his body fade. Not only could he see the growing transparency of his limbs, but he would be able to sense the transition of his soul as it was sent to the next realm. Yemma, his part done in this leg of Saito Kit's story, sat in silence, hands clasped upon his desk. Many souls would see him this day, just like every other day.
