(I wrote this training prior to my absence and never got it posted! Whoops.)
“Alright, talk to you next time”
The image of Della faded from the screen. It was nice speaking with her again. Her adventures seemed almost unbelievable, but then again what wasn't now a days? Had Saito broached the idea that he would be fighting aliens, firing laser beams, and training an entire dojo full of students in under a year, he surely would have thought the messenger mad. His life had changed so much in a years time, and his only regret remained his largest one. As he heard Della's voice for what he imagined would be the last in a long while, his mind drifted back to that dark place. His birthday was coming up. The anniversary of the date he had left his Fathers home in search of a better life. Had he found it? He wondered just where he would be had he chosen to stay in the compound with his father, training endlessly in sparring matches with his siblings. How could he have ever hoped to go further...but then...
He stared into the darkness of the screen. It reflected an image back at him that still caused a cringe. The scarring on his face had healed into a hideous gash that all took notice of. It covered a section of his top lip and ran up towards his vacant eye. He had met a number of people willing to sell him a glass eye, or some that even suggested they could get him a new one. But these things did not appeal to him. He didn't want something new to hold the place of something old. He wanted to feel whole again. Della was a link he needed, and one he despised all at once. She was one of his closest friends, and yet every time he heard her voice, another filled his head. The simulator kicked into effect, Saito's feelings activating it, and entering his highest level of gravity yet. Forty times the Earth's regular force. With the chamber silent and all too himself. He spoke.
“Replay memory 1-1-1-2”
The machine had learned to read his thoughts, even his memories. While some were garbled and distorted, others came out fresh. With the help of Della and Kaladar, he had picked up not only his own memories, but the memories of those whom had witnessed the devastating moment. He watched, from an angle he had never seen before. Standing several feet away from the suffering warrior, and the hound himself. The bastard who plagued his thoughts and marked his body. The sword struck first, cutting through the warriors knee. He watched the pained expression on his own face, in surreal force he watched the blonde student cringe yet holding in his dignity.
This wouldn’t last long, as the sudden pressure in his chest would awaken him. Again he would not scream, if anything it was due to the position of the dog’s knee. It had landed just above the lungs in a manner so profoundly uncomfortable that breathing at all was difficult, let alone screaming. He had declared that the man would scream before it was all over. That he would beg for death. As his right claw struck into Kit’s left shoulder the concept of this became very real. His eyes bulged outward, seemingly out of his head. Truly, Saito had never before felt such a true pain. Each of Kemuri’s claws had finally penetrated his skin. Their entire combat had been a dance of Kit fighting desperately to avoid their sting, and Kemuri toying with the idea of slicing flesh and separating muscle from bone. He had finally done it. He had completely shot through the shoulder blade and scapula and into the hard marble below. His breathing quickened instantly as the skin on his face stretched in an inconceivable pain. He couldn’t conceal his reaction, and yet he still didn’t scream.
Finally the beasts hand descended, and Saito heard his declaration…The last thing he would ever see…In the realm of pain he was in it took him a moment to realize what was about to happen, and even as he began to comprehend he still didn’t fully register the idea. Truly Saito had never fought in a battle where so much blood had been shed. In his realm of combat when blood began to fall the battle was over. Kemuri however seemed to only be inspired further by its presence. Thankfully the Kit didn’t have the time to cycle through the psychological ramifications. Truly mental anguish would have only added to the difficulty of what was already about to happen. Kemuri’s hand moved so quickly Saito didn’t even realize it had even moved from its original resting position. Even as the thumb penetrated deep into his skull he couldn’t feel it. His adrenaline had kicked in and was fighting terribly with the nerves in his body, a fight it would lose after two solid seconds of the gruesome act. Finally Saito would do something he had most literally never done before in his life…Scream.
“I HATE YOU BASTARD!”
No, that wasn't right. That hadn't been what the warrior had said that day. The words escaped Saito's lips as the simulation cut off, the memory returning to where it belonged, yet the scenery remained. The tortured soul no longer under the crushing knee of the horrid hound. Instead, Kemuri rose from his knelt position, and began to snicker. It had been his signature laughter first a brief tee hee, and then an overtly gross maniacal heckling. How Saito loathed that heckling. The dog met his gaze from across the lookout and spoke only words Saito had heard before.
“Come you little pup. Show me how vain I am. Or you that much of a coward like your father?”
Saito's face shook. He remembered the words all too well. His lip curled at them. Kemuri had known his father. Of course he had. Saito had learned not so long ago that his father played a role in the turmoil created by the android Vector. Yet not nearly as crucial a role as the monster that stood before him.
“Tell me. How many little cousins do you have that have three ears, no eyes and one hand do that fools incestuous practices? Also how much of a whore was your mother? How many of the fool’s offspring did she give birth to before being tossed away like a worthless carcass?”
He knew nothing about Saito or his family! Lies. Blatant lies. Saito had held a calm demeanor at the time, not fully understanding what he was up against. The monster spoke in a poor English and attempted to goad him into making a false step. This time however Saito would accept the insults. Saito absorbed every word, listening closely as his simulator replayed each and every word that fell from the mutts mouth.
“Did it really take you this long to escape from that compound? Your fool of a father was three times as strong at half your age. Surely you are nothing more than worthless than the fool himself.”
That was it. The last phrase. The last sentence. Closing his eyes he saw the bastard more clearly than ever. His three hundred and sixty degree's of vision brought out a more finely detailed form of the creature than Saito had ever seen before, and with such an undying sensation filling his eyelids the warrior kicked off of the tile floor and began repeating his fight with the dog. This time however, there would be no quarter given. His body expanded to double its size as the focus state took effect. The warrior was not only double in power, but double the power he had been when fighting the bastard. Saito had commanded the strength of nearly one hundred thousand when he stood up to the demon Kemuri. This time he held the strength of two. His speed at the very least matched what the devil put out, and the two clashed. A physical clash was to Saito's advantage and the two began a barrage of strikes. One after the other landing and diverting until finally the dog broke free, instantly jetting backwards and applying an attack he had used before in their fight. His body split into five different Kemuri's, each with half the strength Saito had.
His right hand clenched in vengeful anticipation. Reaching it outwards and pointing a single finger at one of the four clones he heard the bastard quote himself again. This time asking Saito what he would do if his opponent would not yield and was only toying with him. His response was a rain of teal bullets, six to be exact. Each one struck one of the Kemuri clones in the chest, with the exception of the real one. The real Kemuri received two bullets, one right after the other. The attack raged so heavily that when Kemuri regained himself, his clones returned to their owner as quickly as they had appeared. It was obvious the hound was mad now, mad with anger or energy. His power level began to max out around five hundred thousand and Saito felt a similar feeling of dread. Even after all of his training and hard work, his focus state wasn't enough to beat the dog. His body became overwhelmed and quickly he felt the pain of Kemuri's knee in his chest, and a sword being drawn at his side.
“Enjoy this pain because this is all you are ever going to know.”
His final words before having ripped the man's eye out, and the simulation moved to do the same. He had played this memory before. He had fought the dog a number of times. This time was different. His body began to ignite not only in anger and hatred for the degenerate creature, but in a blaze of pure fire as his body lit up in a glorious transformation. His skin began to change color into a fantastic yellow, blue, and orange. Small feathers began to form beneath his arms and legs. His eyes became covered in a solid color of gold and teal. Most important of all was the fire. His holy fire had wrapped around his body and instantly caught the demons fur ablaze. Leaping backwards and squealing in a surprise pain, Saito floating to a standing position, his limbs stiff and pulsing.
“Lets play a game Kemuri...”
Saito said his name, but then...it wasn't Saito. Saito had been the man who stood nobly against Kemuri. He had stood for everything just. This was a new Saito. Taking a deep breath he raised his still burning hand up to his mouth, and without another word blew heavily on his open palm. The fire that surrounded his body pulled into one place and fired forward in the form of a rather large fireball. Striking the dog it lit him instantly, and another squeal of pain could be heard, as well as a strange cackle as though the dog were enjoying it. He obviously wasn't and had Saito given him a chance to respond he may have learned such a thing. Thinking his laughter a slight, the Phoenix dashed forward, his legs hardly feeling the effects. His human form would have been tense after a dash of that speed, yet the Phoenix hardly felt it, or the gravity for that matter. Such immense power was incredible not only to feel, but to use.
“I call this game, what I should have done that day. It involves every painful concoction my mind has come up with. Lets start with this...”
His dash had taken him behind the dog, and quickly the claws of the fledgling bird caught Kemuri's tail as if with a vice grip. A technique he had not practiced before, but was happy to attempt. His right hand held the tail in place, while his left struck downward. The Ki engulfed talons cut through the fur, and through the skin. It cut into the meat and through the bone. In a fraction of a second Saito cut the bastards tail off with but a swish of his wrist.
Silver Talon: This technique is only available in his Phoenix form. Saito's hands have grown sharp like the talons of a hawk. By pouring Ki into his hands he is capable of quickly slicing through any surface significantly weaker than his own energy. This can rival most any blade and can be used to cut through skin if the opponent isn't careful.
“Hahaha! That was a fun start!”
The Phoenix cackled. Saito would have never taken such joy from brutality, but something about this level of power brought him to a far more carnal urge for blood. Especially against Kemuri. The dog deserved it. His transgressions against the warrior, his friends and teachers, they were insurmountable and unforgivable. Though perhaps with one or two more blood curdling screams the Phoenix could be persuaded to forgive. What else could he do to the creature? Kemuri spun around, his own claws now brandished and ready to exact a most precise revenge. A small glimmer of Ki shone across Saito's discolored skin and when the hounds claws made contact a distinct cracking noise could be heard. The claws had cracked the armor, and the armor had done the same to Kemuri's precious claws. Another yelp of surprise and anguish left Saito the opportunity to strike. His right hand balling into a fist and flying upward for a jab to Kemuri's stomach. Keeling forward the physical attacks had only just begun, Saito's left elbow came down on the back of his opponents neck, and his right hand opened to catch him by the throat when he inevitably fell forward. Raising the his foe up into the air the sound of gasping was overwhelmed by the words of the phoenix.
“You did this to me. You forced this insanity upon me. Now you are the one who will suffer for it!”
His left hand retracted, the talons glowing in righteous indignation. He would end this the way he should have that day. His arm plunged into the dogs lower stomach, the talons jetting out of his back and spraying a deep red blood across the walls of the dojo. The phoenix screeched as his suffocating foe cringed in what could only be insufferable pain.
That was when it happened.
Loathing. The deepest hatred he had felt in the entirety of his life, the not for the squirming pup at the end of his wrist. Through his brightly colored skin, sharp talons, and powerful ki rang a familiar voice. This was not Saito Kito, and he hated what he had become. Staring at the enemy he had dreamed of killing so many times before, his victory felt hollow. Kemuri was already dead, and yet the shame of his actions swept across his shoulders. The phoenix retracted his arm as the lifeless recreation fell to the floor. Saito brought his arm to eye level and examined the blood. It felt real enough, and certainly looked the part. The simulation was still on and even as Saito commanded the machine to exit, the feel of Kemuri's life blood easing its way down his forearm remained. The guilt did as well.
“I...I must control myself...This cannot happen again”
He said in a scratchy soft tone. He stood there a moment longer, his body and mind finally returning from the massive phoenix form. If he was going to use the energy, he would have to learn how to harness it without losing his senses. Not for his sake, but for that of his opponent. Saito would not allow the beast to overwhelm him like that again.
“Alright, talk to you next time”
