Things were not going well. Frigid was starting to lose ground against the armored alien or if not it certainly looked like it to him. Everything the icejin seemed to do was countered with ease by the equally as big monster. Tit for tat and tat for tit the two danced around each other with deadly precision. Kurosanai could barely follow the movements with his eyes which only now started to worry him. ‘What if he could not focus on Arpatiko long enough fire the gathering blast from his hands without hitting Frigid? What if I miss? Worse, what if I hit Frigid instead of hitting Arpatiko?’ Each thought flashed through his head time and again one after another. He knew that the worst enemy a fighter could was doubt in his mind. When doubt appeared the fighter began to second guess everything he was trying to do and everything that he had done. When a fighter began to second guess himself then it would lead to distraction and hesitation. When distraction and hesitation appeared then the fighter was locked in place effectively ending the fight. This was something that was driven into his mind over and over when he was younger. He could see his father telling him to stop overthinking his movements. ‘It is okay for a fighter to think about what to do next. But when a fighter begins to over analyze and over think about what to do next then they took themselves out of the fight. Fighting is based just as much on strategy as on instinct. A fighter must trust themselves to move and perform any plan that is presented to them.’
His father’s words seemed to echo in his head as he was brought back to the area he was. He could feel a charge in the air which he could only assume was from the tension in the air. It was the electricity from the idea that he was fighting not only for his own life but for Frigid’s as well. In fact he did not seem to care about his own existence at the moment, not that he wanted to die, but rather he was more worried about Frigid. He wanted to help him with every fiber of his being but he was stuck in the place he was standing with this growing ball of fire. Then his mind snapped down to his hands where he realized how big the fire ball had actually grown. The heat was unbearable and something in his mind only told him that this was only a fraction of the heat and size of what was to come.
When he looked back up he could barely believe his eyes. Frigid had been retreating from an attack sequence when the leader of the Kinigos disappeared from view. Kurosanai’s eyes went wide as they darted around the cavern looking for any sign of the leader. Only to his horror did he reappear behind the icejin at which point he grabbed ahold of him and forced him to stand still. It was at this point that he turned and looked at Kurosanai.
“My fight is with you, but you will allow Kurosanai of the Muzai to unleash his attack on me though? If you are my opponent then he should not interfere. Do not release your attack. If you unleash those flames towards me they will consume your friend as well. I will give you both a chance to surrender and I promise once Sebastian is done with Conri of the Lane neither of you will be harmed.” The monster of an alien spoke. How could he say that? It was his comrade that openly attacked Conri for no reason other than for his race. It was that same person that ordered him to stop Frigid and Kuro from helping their friend in the battle for his life. It was also the same person that gave him orders that he followed blindly, if commanded Arpatiko would execute Kuro and Frigid on the spot. As much as the prodigy of the Muzai wanted to believe him there was no way he could put faith in his words as he could not back them up. It was then that he locked eyes with Frigid and he could not help but smile a little bit. The icejin’s stare was unrelenting in the effort to tell Kurosanai not to stand down and to attack.
It was in that stare that he saw Frigid’s tail start to rise up towards Arpatiko’s neck. Knowing the icejin from everything that he had seen in the tournament he was not one to give up and had something up his sleeve. What it was he was not sure but this was probably going to be his only chance that he would be afforded and thus his mind was made up.
***
Mozoku stood in the cinder covered ground. The boy stood quietly as his cousin Kurosanai stood behind him with eyes filled with awe. Neither one had ever seen devastation on a level like this. The trees were charred over and the leaves long gone. The smell was the worst thing as nothing of nature was on the wind for miles only that of the burnt forest. Kuro’s eyes glanced over the landscape as he tried to comprehend that all of the life that was once here was snuffed out. It was as he did that Mozoku spoke with an eerily solemn tone.
“Fire is nothing but devastation. It can bring heat which is necessary to life but that is one of the few things it can do to help people. All it does when it is unrestrained is burn away at everything that is around it. Consuming everything and leaving nothing left but charred remains. Fire is one of the most dangerous forces in nature and should not be trifled with. When someone does they will only find unhappiness and death before them.” His words seemed to hang on the air and the prodigy of the Muzai was left silent. He could not figure out what to say to him. Then after moments of silence he would only speak a single sentence.
“I will never let fire go unrestrained.”
***
That day seemed so long ago now as the very force that his cousin spoke of was dancing in his palms. He had no choice but to do what he had sworn he would never do. He would let loose the fire that he had been restraining. It was in that moment that he realized it was his promise to his cousin against the life other another being. Kuro could not let Frigid die, or Conri or even that android that was fighting Arpatiko’s main lieutenant. He would not let any of them die as it was his job to protect them. His choice was made for him.
“I wish I could believe you,” Kurosanai stated.
Suddenly his hands would spring forward as Frigid began to make his move. The ball of fire that he had been charging for so long launched forth from his hands. It was not like a normal ki blast or beam. Rather it was like a condensed inferno that was contained in a large pillar directed at the leader of the Kinigos. The pillar of flames would soar from his hands with the power level 291,808 which was drastically above Kuro’s own power. It was insane to the prodigy of the Muzai that he could ever create something this powerful as he had never seen anything this powerful before. The flames burned at his palms and he felt the bandages wrapped around his handed starting to burn away from the heat as he began to slide backwards from the sheer force of the blast. Kuro was not going to be able to see the results of the attack until it was over as the heat from the blast caused him to close his eyes as he tried to maintain the pillar shape. What was going to happen next was completely up to the fates.
Kurosanai could not let Arpatiko stand in his way of protecting his friends. The fire of his resolve had taken life and now burned through the air. The deciding moment was now.

The human stared at him like he was a fool with three heads. The icejin and the human really did not understand that he would do everything in his power to make sure that their lives were spared. Conri of the Land was a lost cause and could not be saved from the fate that was coming to him. Sebastian while easy going was ruthless in battle and would not fail. The Universal Church of One would not fail in their relentless assault of their worlds just as they had done with his. When his people tried to fight the Universal Church of One the world of Belegost was overrun with fanatics who would throw away their lives in a heartbeat to take a single inch of ground. These two did not understand it, Arpatiko had to fight alongside Sebastian in order to save his people.
Then the icejin named Frigid decided to be stupid. His tail slithered up the leader’s back and wrapped around his neck in an attempt to jerk him backwards. It work to provide enough room for Frigid to slip from his arms but not enough fully escape his reach. The blade of his arm snapped upwards with an attempt to stab the iecjin in the stomach. In this moment he did not seem to notice what the icejin’s true intention actually was. A small orb landed on his foot which then seemed to morph around his foot before attaching itself to the ground. Arpatiko went to pull his foot loose when he found that it was stuck to the ground and before he could give it another pull with more force he felt the heat on his skin. His eyes darted back up in horror as a wall of fire barreled toward him. Immediately he activated his heat shields as the flames crashed into him. The fire licked around his body as it ate away at his shields. It took only moments before his suit gave way.
The heat immediately began to cook any exposed flesh causing it to bubble and blackened. Arpatiko’s suit tried to counter the pain by releasing pain medication directly into his blood stream but that would not last long. The circuits began to fry as the metal began to melt and the Kinigo began to be cooked in his suit. The metal began to heat to a temperature that it began to fuse with his skin, then his muscle and finally into vital areas of his body. His mask burned at his face causing him to scream out in pain but it was muffled by the torrent of flames. Normally he would have been pushed backwards however Frigid’s orb seemed to be more an anchor then it was worth. The flames from the pyre slammed into back wall before rapidly crawling up the ceiling. The flames coated the sealing causing the stone to heat and crack. Soon the ceiling began to shake violently and then began to rain down large chunks of rock onto the fighters. It was this rainfall of stone that finally spared Arpatiko of his burning fate. The stone broke the channel of fire sending it dancing through the air as more of the ceiling landed on the leader. A dust cloud erupted covering the area as the fire continued to snake into the ceiling before finally fizzling out.
The dust held in the air for a moment as the room was heated to almost unbearable levels. Finally as it began to settle the scene was revealed. Arpatiko’s burnt body was barely peeking out from underneath the rubble, only his right arm adorned with a broken blade, right shoulder and head could be seen. Due to the fire his suit was not able to generate enough power to life or protect Arpatiko from the several tons debris that now crushed his body. The burns had created immense damage and the weight of the rubble only added to that. He could feel it in his bones, he was going to die and he was never going to see his people free from the Universal Church of One’s might.
His eyes drifted underneath the mask that had melted to his face. He searched for any movement at all as he contemplated why fate had done this to him. Normally he could have survived the blast to a degree, he would not have been able to fight afterwards, but with the ceiling crushing his body while his suit was damaged proved to be too much. Eventually his eyes would settle in the direction of where Kurosanai of the Muzai once was, if he was still there was beyond him.
“I wa…was fighting for my people…to…to free them from the Uni…Universal Church of One…I just…I just want to free them…free them…” Arpatiko stated through his burned throat. His voice cracked and hissed as his mask’s microphone cut in and out with projecting his voice. His right arm would lift just slightly into the air before falling once again motionless. There would only be a slow hiss from Arpatiko’s mask before absolute silence. The Kinigo leader would never see his people free from the oppressive Universal Church of One. Instead he would have to watch from the afterlife for his dream to possibly come true.

Thankfully, Frigid planned worked fairly well. Ripping himself away from the machine-man, but not unscathed. The tip of Arpatiko's blade drove itself into his stomach. A cry of pain left his mouth, only to be muffled by the large blast of fire heading towards them.
As Frigid fell, the blade left a deep diagonal slash across the icejin's torso, but his anchoring held Arpatiko in place, allowing Frigid to get away. The blast shot past him, singeing flesh, the flames licking the pool of blood off the ground, the heat cauterizing his wound for the most part. Frigid's pearly white Icejin shell would be charred black, but he would live.
The same could not be said for Arpariko. As the blast connected, a shriek of terror left him, muffled by the blast. Not even his silhouette was visible as he was grilled alive, the whole cavern seeming to fill with the fire. Closing his eyes, Frigid wrapped and arm wound his face, rolling into a ball to avoid the worst of the splash damage.
The walls of the cavern shook, the stone cracking under the heat, the ceiling breaking away large stones, which were dropped upon the fighters like hellish hailstones. But all the horror was lost to Frigid, who did his best to shield himself, his tail flicking the occasional rock away instinctively.
As the flames finally fizzled out, the walls glowing bright red from the heat, Frigid opened and uncovered his eye, only to gaze upon the battle field. Where Arpatiko stood, a pile of rubble, thick black smoke raising from them. Frigid wondered if the man was still alive, all the bloodlust from the beginning of the fight leaving him. He didn't really want anyone to die. That wasn't him...
Movement. A few stones pushed aside, a charred hand lifting to the air. Frigid's body tensed, but he remained on the ground, currently unable to pick himself up. There was a hiss from the pile, followed by Arpariko's mechanized voice. Frigid's ears strained to hear the whimper leave the man: “I wa…was fighting for my people…to…to free them from the Uni…Universal Church of One…I just…I just want to free them…free them…”
His heart instantly dropped, part of him wishing the man was lying. But as his raised hand fell motionless once again, Frigid knew this was not the case. This was his dying plea, and there was nothing but truth in it. Standing slowly, Frigid would take a few, staggering steps towards him, "Had our paths... Crossed in a different way..." his voice was strained, his throat dry from the heat, hard to get the words out from emotions, "We might have fought... Beside one another instead of... Against..."
Though the man had just been fighting him, he had earned respect from the Icejin, and his final words held honor. Frigid winced against the pain from his wounds, staggering and almost falling, "I will do my best, Arpatiko... To make that happen..." There was no time to feel any regret, in their actions. Turning to Kurosanai, Frigid would smile lightly, "Nice work, Kuro." a light chuckle left his mouth before Frigid's eyes glazed over, and he fell back to the ground.
The pain in his body was great, and as the adrenaline faded from his bloodstream, he was struck with the blunt of it all at once. A violent cough leaving his body sent blood spouting from his mouth. The last parting gift Arpatiko had given him was taking a toll, and it was obvious

The roar of the flames was deafening, the heat from the blast unbearable and in this moment Kurosanai’s heart seemed to stop beating. He could feel the room beginning to rapidly heat to an unbearable temperature as the bandages on his hands began to turn to ash causing his hands to turn red. The destruction of his bandages continued as they turned to cinders all the way up until his elbows. From there they only cinged to a dark black as the fire continued, it would come to an end however when the ceiling began to crack and buckle. The prodigy of the Muzai’s eyes darted upwards as a large chunk of the ceiling let loose and began to descend towards him. With a strained leap backwards Kurosanai managed to evade the massive boulder however was quickly consumed by the dust cloud that erupted from the boulder.
He tumbled for several feet as small hot rocks peppered his back through the all-consuming dust hung over his head. Eventually he rolled onto his back as his lung wheezed through the hot air and sweat rolled down his brow. It was in that moment that the deafening silence fell over the cavern. Then Kurosanai would let out a cough as he struggled to his feet with a red face beneath a small layer of brown dust. His hands burned with pain as his eyes darted downwards as he felt sweat rolling on his open flesh. There taking in the light from the caves were two crescent moons emphatically marked on his open palms. Slowly his eyes climbed and he saw the strange markings, in a language no one knew, tattooed up his forearms and back beneath the bandages. These marks were not something the prodigy of the Muzai ever enjoyed seeing as they reminded him of nothing but the shame he bore on his body. With a grimace he forced his eyes upwards where he spotted the icejin he spotted Frigid on the ground still breathing. It was such a relief to see him alive that Kuro actually let out a little sigh. His white skin did seem to be charred with soot but otherwise relatively unharmed from the attack. Then came movement from the large pile of rocks in front of Kurosanai.
Arpatiko pushed away a few rocks but only to the point that he was able to raise his right hand. But that was all he was able to do. This fight was over; Kurosanai had saved his friend, and now opened up the opportunity to help Conri in his battle. Though he was not in any shape to fight right away as his energy was currently depleted, he would need at least a couple of minutes to take a breather and relax. But then things turned against what he had been expecting. A low crackling voice echoed through the silence.
“I wa…was fighting for my people…to…to free them from the Uni…Universal Church of One…I just…I just want to free them…free them…” The voice crackled through the melted face mask. Then everything fell silent again as the once great leader became motionless. Kurosanai’s eyes went wide at what he had just witnessed. A life had disappeared from the universe and it was because of an attack that Kurosanai had used. He was speechless as his lungs deflated and his arms just hung by his side. Frigid seemed to manage to rise to his feet before taking several steps forward.
"Had our paths... Crossed in a different way... We might have fought... Beside one another instead of... Against... I will do my best, Arpatiko... To make that happen...” Frigid said in a solemn tone. It was a funeral address. It could not truly sink in for the prodigy of the Muzai, he was the reason that a funeral address was being spoken. ‘How could this have happened? How could he have taken a life from this universe?’ Then came the words that seemed to only make Kurosanai sick.
"Nice work, Kuro."
Nice work? It wasn’t nice work. He killed someone. That isn’t nice. That isn’t nice at all. Kurosanai had promised his cousin never to let fire go unleashed and for years he had held up that promise but now he had broken that promise. Originally he only thought that it was to end the fight but now what his cousin had spoken came true. When fire was unleashed and uncontrolled it would only destroy, nothing else, only destruction and Kurosanai had been fool enough to think that this new power of his was different.
It took just another moment for Kurosanai standing there, burnt bandages and all, to try and take in what was going. Then suddenly he turned and doubled over. His stomach wretched like a vice grip in his stomach sending its contents onto the ground at his feet. He took several short breaths before his stomach wretched again. He would repeat this process two more times before he was finally able to stand up slowly. The back of his hand touched his mouth to try and clean up some ick that he did not want to see. Despite trying he could not hold back tears as several rolled down his reddened face.
“I didn’t do nice work. I have done what I swore I never would,” Kurosanai mumbled under his breath as he tried to nonchalantly clear off the tears though how effective it would have to be seen. Arpatiko had meant more to Kurosanai then anyone could think. It would not seem like it but there was one thing that would make it so that he would never be forgotten.
Arpatiko, leader of the Kinigos and Belegost, was the first person Kurosanai had ever killed.

As Frigid flickered in and out of consciousness, he could only catch small glimpses of Kurosanai's reaction. The first was the man losing his lunch. Frigid felt sorry for him, obviously he was feeling guilty of his actions, which Frigid couldn't deny the same, but they did what they had to be done. Arpatiko might not have wanted to kill them, but there was no doubt in Frigid's mind, if given the order, he would've.
Again, a bout with the blackness. A sharp pain from his wounds as blood pooled around him. Needing a way out, but nothing in sight. His mind lost to the pain, gone temporarily. But as quickly as he was removed from the pain, he was returned to it.
His body convulsed against the sudden rush, reverting back into his base form. The smaller body was not his choice, as the pain only seemed to be amplified by the sudden decrease of power. A violent cough sent blood flying out of his mouth, splattering over his own body. It was in this horrific display, Frigid remembered.
Reaching a slow, trembling hand between the plates on his shoulder, he removed a small bean of some kind. Given to him when he served the kingdom, he'd been told it would revive even the worse off fighters. At the time, he never believed such nonsense, but in his current state, he had to try.
Placing the bean between his bloodied teeth, he slowly chewed. As he swallowed, he felt no different. But in just a few seconds, that changed. His body convulsed, muscles bulging, eyes widening. He could feel his wounds mending, his pain fading. His body grew, forced to return to his Brute state from the sudden increase. It was like going from completely empty to full in seconds.
Ripping himself off the ground, his hands felt for his wound, but it was no longer there. Nothing remained of it. His arms curled, only to shoot for the ceiling. Letting out a roar of victory, his mighty tail slapped hard against the floor.
He was revived, rejuvenated, and felt much stronger than before. His eyes returned to Kurosanai after his small celebration. There was sadness in his eyes, maybe even a trail of tears on his cheek. Frigid smiled, his mood might make such a smile seem misunderstanding, but this was untrue.
"Kurosanai, my friend," taking a few steps forward, he would place a hand on the man's shoulder, "what's done is done. There is no changing that. But with what we know now, we only have one choice. We have to honor Arpatiko's wish. He have to bring this whole Universal Church down on itself."
Hatred was a new feeling for the Icejin, a feeling he had never truly experience. But Sebastian and this Church had brought that emotion into him. Anyone so quick to judge, so quick to draw blood, so quick to blindly follow to their own doom, these were the kind of people who took over planets. Who ripped families apart.
Pulling away, he turned to eye the charred cavern, "If we don't try, Arpatiko died for nothing. And then we're just as bad as they are."

The Icejin was writhing in pain off in the distance and while Kurosanai cared about his health he could not take his eyes off of Arpatiko lying there motionless in the rubble from the ceiling. The large alien looked so small now with only his arm visible and in so much pain. Kuro understood that he no longer felt pain as his existence had come to an end but there was just something that was just strange and that seemed to fascinate him in an unhealthy way. The scorched walls in in the back bore a small shadow of where he body had been located in the middle of the pyre of flames that smashed into his body full force. The outline was chilling and soul wrenching Kurosanai had never seen anything like this in his entire life. He had seen dead bodies but that was only of his family after they passed from illness or that of old age. With that in mind there was no comparing the two whatsoever. Seeing someone lying there peacefully in their casket uncaring of their surroundings was nothing like what he saw in front of him. Arpatiko’s last moments were those of pain and agony. Of fear and desperation, he claimed all he wanted to do was to free his people from the shadow of this Universal Church of One. ‘Why did I do it?’ The thought ran through his head numerous times over and over again. So much so that he had not realized that he had begun to walk forward.
The prodigy of the Muzai stared blankly forward as that one line ran through his head over and over again. ‘Why did I do it? Why did I do it? Why did I do it? Why did I do it? Why did I do it?’ Each step he took did not make a sound as the sound of energy hummed in the background from the clash of Conri and the Cardinal. They were in the midst of their own moment but this was one of Kurosanai’s most devastating. He had extinguished a life from the universe like he was some kind of god all because he was following orders. He had never had any quarrel with the prodigy of the Muzai prior to this. Probably not even a half hour ago the two had met and it was in that moment that Kurosanai had judged him to be a foul creature. ‘Why did I do it?’ He couldn’t figure it out why did he hate a creature for his simple appearance. The creature had even agreed to help them try to find the missing crew that Promtheus Zex had sent them to rescue. He had explained to them that the Universal Church of One presided over this planet. Kurosanai had no dealings with them in any way but what he had seen. He acted irrationally just like the fool William Watson who had gotten himself killed. Kurosanai must have been looking for a fight because he did not hesitate a single moment when he leapt into the air and attacked Arpatiko. He never gave him a single moment to try and explain himself. ‘Why did I do it?’
The rocks were piled haphazardly in utter chaos around the leader of this monstrously sized alien race. At first the prodigy of the Muzai attempted to climb the small pile of rocks at the edge without looking but his feet slipped on the rocks as he attempted to move forward. The young human fell forward only to catch himself with outstretched hands. The markings that had been hidden for so long under the bandages seemed to blaze with shame to his eyes which only made his stomach turn more. The markings he had received so many years before that he allowed no one to see. The markings were something that his clan had forbidden but it did not matter to him at the time. He believed someone that he trusted and it brought nothing but questioning stares and hatred from some in the clan. ‘Why did I do it?’ It was one of the reasons why Izanami placed little faith in the man. He knew it was even if she never admitted it one bit. These markings…they only brought pain and disgust, much like his actions here and now.
His bare hands pawed over the rubble as his feet staggered in between insecure rocks that had encased Arpatiko. It was at this point that Kurosanai got his first instance of the smell of his actions. The smell of burnt flesh that was cooked in the metal suit he wore hung in the air. It was indescribable; the only way someone could know the smell was to be an unfortunate victim to its stench. The way the exposed flesh bubbled and was darkened it was like looking at smoked meat. The moisture had been forced out and thereby forcing the skin to tighten and darkened. The scream that the leader let out was permanently imprinted on his mind. The sound echoed throughout his head like some sick song that played over and over again. It begged him to stop the flames, and to help his ailing body. But Kurosanai couldn’t do that, he was stuck where he was at the time unable to open his eyes out of fear of what he would see. Now the results were disgusting. The mask seemed to literally be melted into the alien’s face and the metal on his arms melted and then instantly cooled by the air. It would have instantly grafted with the aliens flesh causing untold amounts of pain. There was nothing that was peaceful about what he saw. The prodigy of Muzai slowly reached down out of pure being in a pure trance and his fingers touched at the mask of the Kinigo leader. The mask itself was still burning hot and seared at Kurosanai’s finger tips but he couldn’t move. He couldn’t take his eyes off of what he was looking at, what he had done.
‘Why did I do it?’
A hand suddenly clapped down on his should pulling him from the trance that he was stuck in. Frigid stood there in his first form again, making him now much shorter than Kurosanai. The icejin’s wound was gone and the pain had fled from his eyes. Part of Kuro was relieved at the sight of his friend and rival doing fine after their fight. He had absolutely no idea on how he had been miraculously healed but glad none the less. But that part did not show through the young human. All Frigid would see was essentially a zombie standing in front of him.
"Kurosanai, my friend, what's done is done. There is no changing that. But with what we know now, we only have one choice. We have to honor Arpatiko's wish. He have to bring this whole Universal Church down on itself. If we don't try, Arpatiko died for nothing. And then we're just as bad as they are." Frigid said with authority. Most would have agreed with him but Kuro could not at the current moment. His mind was stuck in shock and he could not fully comprehend what was going on around him.
“Why did I do it?” It was the only sentence to escape Kuro’s distant psyche. “Why did flames leap from my hands? Why did they devour a soul that was not mine? Why am I still here? Why did he have to die? Why did he have to die? WHY DID HE HAVE TO DIE?!” The last question would have Kurosanai turn and slam his two hands down on Frigid’s shoulders. His hands would tighten as his eyes filled with panic and chaos. The young man was losing his mind because of what he did, what he did not intend to do. “WHY DID I DO IT?! WHY DID I TAKE A SOUL THAT WAS NOT MINE?! WHY DID THE FIRES OF HELL EAT AWAY AT HIS FLESH?! WHY DID THE FIRES OF HELL LEAP FROM MY HANDS?! WHY CAN I CONTROL THE FIRES OF HELL?!” Once again the young man would scream out loud. He had no idea what Frigid would do in order to try and calm him down. For all Kuro knew he was going to either get punched or consoled. There were so many different outcomes to the situation that he could barely fathom the icejin’s response.
It would be in this moment that the entire cavern shook as the two blasts from Sebastian and Conri slammed into each other. The sound of the ceiling caving in off in the distance echoed throughout the room as strong winds threatened to blow the two of them over. But to the prodigy of the Muzai it meant nothing. His mind was on the brink of descending fully into madness. He could not turn back from this cliff face on his own.
“WHY DID I DO IT?!”

"Why did I do it?" Kurosanai asked; at first he seemed to direct the question to the air around him. But as his anger grew inside him, his questions grew as well. His questions turned to shouts, then to a roar.
Whipping around, his arms gripped Frigid's shoulders tightly, his grasp hard enough to hurt even through Frigid's Icejin-shell. There was something in Kurosanai's eyes that he recognized. This was not true anger; this was rage fueled by confusion. This was a breakdown.
Frigid had already suffered from two of these mental breakdowns since crashing onto this forsaken planet. It seemed that he was not the only one who felt lost and afraid. Alone, even. Sure, Kurosanai's was from something different, but that didn't mean any less to Frigid.
As the man's roars continued, Frigid calmly place his hand around Kuro's arms. Grasping tightly, he held them where they were placed. He had to jolt this out of him for just a second. If he could break the trance his friend was in, maybe he could calm him down.
The tip of Frigid's tail whipped hard from the right, aimed at Kurosanai's face. The power behind it would hopefully be just enough to catch his attention. The affect would be seen, but Frigid would try either way to get Kurosanai to snap out of it "Kurosanai! Stop this!" He would order, much more authority in his voice than he was permitted.
If this first slap was to no effect, Frigid's mighty tail would whip around again, from the left this time, to connect with the man's face again. Hopefully he could break him.
As the cavern began to rumble, Frigid was beginning to question how much more it could take. With their fight with Arpatiko, and Conri's with Sebastian, the cavern was now bound to give out sooner or later. If faced with such a twist of fate, would Frigid be able to hurry Kurosanai out in time? And what about the others? What would happen to them in such a disastrous event? One thing was for sure; if Frigid couldn't calm Kurosanai down, he and the Icejin might perish as well...

The panic was something else entirely. Kurosanai had never felt such panic in his entire lifetime even when he was losing in a sparring match or a game. But maybe that was because he had never killed someone before so his mind was no doubt left without a proper way to cope with the events. His mind had given up on trying to find an explanation and gone into complete chaos as evidenced by the fact that he had grabbed the icejin, Frigid, with so much force that he had actually caused the runner up to the Galactic Tournament to wince in pain. His mind however was never able to comprehend this as his eyes were glazed over. It was never his intention to do so but he could not control himself. After the fact, given the assumption that his mind would be intact, the prodigy of Muzai would have to apologize for his actions but that possibility seemed to be fading with each passing second. That was until Frigid, Kurosanai’s friend, did exactly what was best for him in that moment.
Frigid’s arms wrapped around his with a powerful grip of his own with one distinct difference while Kuro’s was fueled by that of chaotic panic the icejin’s was fueled by strong determination, this determination that was fueled by the need to try and save his friend from imploding in on himself and causing the prodigy of the Muzai to become nothing more than a walking husk. Even though Frigid’s grasp had a great deal of force behind it, Kuro would not snap out of the trance that he was in until Frigid’s tail violently snapped upwards. The first strike knocked his head to the side but while he was pulled partially back to reality the second strike was the one that did the trick. The pain in Kuro’s cheek was enough of a wakeup call to break the trance that he had become stuck in.
"Kurosanai! Stop this!" Frigid ordered with authority that seemed to be instilled with him as Kurosanai’s friend.
Kurosanai’s head would slowly turn back to the icejin at which point he felt his knees go weak. The human would collapse down to the ground and out of Frigid’s grasp. He could not believe that he had descended into madness so easily. His head would hang low for several moments as he tried to stricken Arpatiko’s scream from his mind at least for the moment but it remained nestled in the deep recesses of his mind. Though instead of falling into the same loop, thanks to Frigid’s tail slap, Kurosanai was able to compose himself at least a little bit as to what was going on.
“I am sorry…” Kurosanai mumbled underneath his breath as a sharp sound ripped through his ears. Kuro immediately winced through the pain and tried to scramble to his feet away from Frigid in an attempt to make sure that the human did not appear even weaker in front of him than he already had. But as he managed to scramble away the sharp noise remained. ‘Did Frigid really slap me that hard?’
He was mid step away from Frigid when the world seemed to stop. Everything fell silent, from the collapsing rock off in the background, to his own breathing, to the dripping of moisture from stalactites, as everything slowed. Kurosanai could not figure out why everything slowed because he seemed to stop. It was then that the color seemed to fade away as well from everything but himself. Whatever this feeling was that he felt in this very moment it was not something new, it felt strangely familiar. But from where was the question. Then off in the distance came the sound of a series of footsteps. To his surprise a lone human man had appeared and was now walking towards the young prodigy of the Muzai. His appearance was that of a humble man but there was something about him that told Kuro that that was just an appearance. He wore a simple pair of pants, a simple cloth vest and had what appeared to be a head that was buzzed low to his scalp.
“Why is that I am only showing up for you when you are at your weakest?” The man said with annoyance wrapping in his voice as he did so. The aura he gave off was one of power, unbelievable power, something that even the blast from Conri’s battle could not eve match. It was in that moment that he realized that he was no longer mid step and could move of his own free will.
“I am sorry…do I know you?” Kurosanai asked in confusion which only seemed to annoy the man even more.
“Three times now we have interacted on some level or another. The first came when you were fighting that woman with the illusions. The second when you came into the presence of the mighty spirit Pandora,” The man said as he finally came to stop about six feet away from Kurosanai. “I am the one who is responsible for giving you that.” The man stated as the heart that had been tattooed on his chest began to glow and heat up to a mild temperature. “The third time we briefly spoke on that damned metal can on your ride to this god forsaken honey comb that you mistake for a planet.”
It was then that everything seemed to piece back together for him. Memories that had once been blurred out of his mind returned from his fight with Adrien La’Moore, the moment that he stood in what he could only guess was Pandora’s presence and then that voice he had heard when he was getting sick. While all of this was interesting to the prodigy of the Muzai it did not help with the name of this man. As if on cue the man let out another sigh.
“I am the one who gave you the Aoiro no Tsuisata. I am Fujin Muzai,” He stated with frustration. It was then that Kurosanai’s jaw fell open at the realization that he was in fact Fujin Muzai. The memory of him first appearing to Kuro flooded back into his mind.
“I am so sorry. Please forgive me…it has been a long day.” Kurosanai stated with a large bow in front of him. Fujin walked past a bowing Kurosanai without as much as a glimpse at him. He heard the crumbling of rocks from behind him causing the prodigy to turn around. There he saw Fujin standing over the greyed out lifeless body of Arpatiko.
“I can see that…” Fujin said as he kicked Arpatiko’s head which left a low resonance sound echoing throughout the chamber. It made Kuro jump and start to move towards the legendary leader of his clan. He was stopped however when he cast a look that made him fear for his life. It was quick and subtle but enough to freeze Kuro where he stood. Then with a somewhat impressed tone he continued to speak, “Quite a unique method to get around that little curse that was leveled on our family…using magic for ranged attacks never really occurred to me for whatever reason. Nice job…creates effective results.”
“Yeah I know…” Kurosanai stated as the sound of his scream reentered his mind.
“If you continue to do that then you will never be able to move on. Taking a life is never an easy thing to do and it is always carried with you. Each kill creates a moment for the survivor that helps define who they are. In that moment they will either crumble to dust or continue on.” Fujin stated as he descended from the rock pile. “Trust me I don’t like the fact that you are the only one who has been able to access the Aoiro, makes me wonder what kind of warriors are actually left, but I can’t have you descending into madness over one kill. You did this to protect someone, which in the case of killing people is not that bad of a reason. So suck it up and put on your big boy pants. You have more work to do.” Fujin said slapping his hand down on Kuro’s shoulder.
Instantly the world snapped back to normal and left Kurosanai stumbling forward before falling on his face. It was strange what just happened but in that moment a piece of him somehow felt healed, maybe it was from Frigid’s slap or Fujin’s words but it did help the young prodigy. Fujin was gone and the weights that he had purchased were lying right in front of him. Something deep down told him to pick up the weights and put them on. So slowly Kuro rose to his feet and slipped on his jacket that was modeled after what he was told was a legendary Saiyan swordsmen’s. The tattoos that had brought him great shame disappeared from view and his head slowly rose to look outwards. He was ready for the next step for now, what he would be like in a few hours would have to remain to be seen. It was in that moment that his eyes were able to pick up a disastrous scene that was about to unfold. Both Frigid and Kuro would now have to race off for Conri in order to save the half saiyan’s life.
“Frigid! We need to go! Get to Conri! I will take care of him for now!” Kurosanai yelled before launching forward through the air. The comment probably would not have made much sense until Frigid turned to see what was going on and hopefully then he would join the prodigy of the Muzai.

As the first tail whip connected, Frigid watched Kurosanai's head jerk to the side against the pain. There was little affect from the first strike, but as his tail connected a second time, he could see the life returning to his friend's eyes. There was a look of shame in them, but Kurosanai was back to reality. Dropping his hands from Frigid, the Icejin released him, watching him slump to the floor. "I am sorry..."
Frigid huffed, there was no need for apologies; in fact, there was no time for them. Frigid could tell that the fight between Conri and Sebastian was winding to an end, and as the cavern began to fall silent, Frigid noted this was not in their favor.
Kurosanai stepped back after pulling himself from the ground. Had Frigid been paying attention, he might have noticed the look of awe of his friends face for a fraction of a second, then a fall on his face. But when Frigid gaze turned from Conri's direction and back to Kurosanai, he was pulling himself off the ground.
After pulling on a set of weights, the young human took the lead. His command made Frigid's head jerk back to Conri's direction, and he didn't like what he saw. As Kurosanai took flight and rushed in the direction, Frigid followed, pushing to his top speed. Thankfully, with his power restored from the magical senzu bean, he wouldn't lag behind, and hopefully he would make it to Conri's aid in time.
(Exit Frigid. PL, of course.)
